About fifty years ago, a group of Italian designers, perhaps without knowing it, made a real breakthrough in furniture fashion. Taking the unpretentious mattress as a basis, they took the best sides of this object to give the world a new piece of furniture - frameless chairs. From this later came several branches, including frameless beds. But the bag full of polystyrene balls surpassed many more perfect ideas, people liked it, and this became a fashion for many decades. Even today, when looking at frameless armchairs, buyers are delighted, but the fact that you can make such a chair yourself can cause less delight.

Manufacturing technology: how to make a frameless chair

Before you proceed directly to work, determine how many covers the chair will have. Usually the inner case, which contains the filler, is complemented by a removable outer case. Sew an outer cover from a beautiful decorative fabric. It can simply be removed and washed if necessary, so as not to spill the filler from the main one, otherwise.

Think about which fabric to sew the frameless chair from:

• Usually they use either natural mixed fabric or polyester materials such as Oxford 400;
• The material should not diverge at the seams, and at the same time it should be lightweight, equipped with water-repellent impregnations;
• For the outer cover of the fabric, dense and non-stretch fabrics are needed;
• Pile materials will collect dust particles, as well as pet hair, and therefore they will have to be cleaned more often;
• Prefer impregnated furniture fabrics that repel dirt and water.

For children, of course, a chair of any size is suitable. But if it is intended for children in the nursery, then the size must be made so that it is comfortable in the chair for an adult too. When you have decided on the fabric, you can start sewing.

Frameless chair materials

The most important thing is the fabric. Be sure to find the right one and in sufficient quantity. If you purchased a polyester fabric, then you need at least 2.5 m.

You will also need:

• Reinforced durable thread number 70;
• Tractor lightning No. 5, 30 cm long;
• Sewing machine, needles for heavy fabrics No. 100;
• Wax chalk;
• Tailor's scissors;
• Scotch;
• Wax chalk;
• Plastic bottle;
• Expanded polystyrene (granules).

Prepare the last 3 kg, not less. Next, you need to cut the prepared material according to the scheme, not forgetting to add allowances for the seams. Side details are cut out on a pattern on paper to maintain symmetry. The details of the bottom and back are cleaved face inward, and seam off from the place where there will be lightning.

It turns out that 30 cm of the seam remain unstitched. It is necessary to sweep it off with a manual temporary seam, straightening the allowances, sweep, and then sew on the zipper. Then the temporary seams need to be torn apart. Then you need to chop the fabric face inward, grinding the front part and the back elements. They are chipped and swept away with the details of the bottom and back. And all the seams are processed overlock.

• Take a one and a half liter plastic bottle, cut the neck and bottom in it to make a pipe;
• Open the bag with the filler, insert the bottle into it, wrap it with tape;
• You need to make sure that everything is attached securely, and the balls will spill out only into the bottle;
• Open the zipper on the chair itself, put the cover on the bottle;
• Close the zipper by attaching the bottle to the "waist";
• Hold this place with your hand, turn at this moment the bag with the filler;
• Fill a new chair with two-thirds of the volume;
• If there is a lot of filler, it will be inconvenient - the chair will not give this hug effect.

All materials are usually easily purchased at a sewing store, but with a filler, it is not always immediately obtained. It can be bought directly from companies that produce frameless furniture. Balls should be neither small, nor large, nor mixed. The filler should not have a sharp chemical smell.

Frameless Chair Bed Tips

If you are making a chair with a double cover, then the zipper on the outer cover should be rather big, so that it would be convenient to get the inner cover with filler through it. And always buy the filler itself with some margin, because in the process of using the chair it will definitely shrink by about a quarter of the volume. The finished chair should not stand near the pool or open sources of heat.

Also remember:

• If you built an external cover made of artificial leather, you will have to install several eyelets in order to provide ventilation;
• So that the chair remains lush, does not lose its beautiful appearance, the outer cover will not be superfluous to duplicate the synthetic winter layer.

The chair can be accent, not have a pair, not match the color of other furniture and textiles. Or maybe the so-called invisibility, successfully "adapt" to the wallpaper or the general background. Such an armchair can even stand in the kitchen, and be a convenient place for morning tea and morning newspapers.
