Connection of a warm floor to a thermostat( thermostat)

An important role in the construction and design of underfloor heating is played by a thermostat - a control unit that processes information coming from temperature sensors. Depending on the selected operating mode, it enables or disables the heating mode.

The requirement of a thermostat setting depends on the modification of your underfloor heating. If the heating is made by electricity, the thermostat is an indispensable element of the design, but in a water-warm field it can not be installed. However, in order to save the heat carrier and control the heating of the room with several heat sources, the thermostat can be installed in systems of a warm water floor.

What are thermostats?

Depending on the internal electronic filling, the thermostats can be divided into complex ones, having programmable control and simple ones, in which only one parameter is set - temperature. In complex devices there is an electronic unit and a scoreboard, in a simple setting the desired temperature is made by mechanical means.

It is also possible to divide thermostats into types by the way they are installed. Like conventional wall switches, they can be built-in and recessed into walls and waybills.

Temperature sensors

In order for the thermostat to perform its work in a qualitative way, information collected by temperature sensors must be fed to it. The sensor is two wires connected by a thermocouple, which changes the resistance depending on the degree of heating.

Temperature sensors can take information directly from the heating element and measure the temperature of the air in the room. As a rule, air temperature sensors are mounted directly in the thermoregulator housing and do not require separate installation. There are thermoregulators that receive information simultaneously from two types of temperature sensors.

It is best to measure the temperature of the directly heated element of a warm floor or the floor itself in rooms with additional heat sources, such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Connection of the electric underfloor heating to the

thermostat The heating elements of the heated floor systems are made of IR film or heating cable. Installation of such systems is quite simple - they are laid either in the thickness of the screed, or on the screed directly under the finish floor covering.

The thermostat to these floors is connected as follows:

  1. Determine the location of the thermostat in the room. Please note that in the immediate vicinity of it there should be a wiring of an electrical network with a voltage of 220 volts. Between the thermostat and the wiring it is necessary to provide a place for placing the circuit breaker.
  2. When designing the electrical floor, also provide a place for the placement of a temperature sensor. As a rule, it is located near the thermoregulator in a place that is not caused by furniture.

  3. If the heating element in your system is an infrared film, the thermal sensor must be installed on the underside of the film.
  4. If the heating element in your underfloor heating system is a heating cable laid in the thickness of the screed then the temperature sensor must be protected from exposure to concrete. To do this, it must be placed in the corrugated pipe together with the heating cable. One end of the pipe should be in the thickness of the concrete screed, and the other should be routed to the wall so that it is possible to dismantle and replace the faulty sensor.
  5. After completing the installation of the warm electric floor in the place chosen for the installation of the thermostat, set the layout. If the regulating device is built-in, then in the place of its installation, hollow out a niche. If your thermostat is waybill - then install it on the self-tapping screws on the dowels.
  6. Conduct a comparison of the power of the heating element of your underfloor heating system with the permissible power of the thermostat. The maximum power of the thermostat should not be less than the load applied to the heating elements.
  7. Make wiring connections of the heating element to the terminals of the thermostat. Pay attention to the necessity of observing the connected phases. On most electrical appliances, the phase can be indicated by the letters "L" and "F", and neutral zero by the letter "N".Also, the phasing is indicated by the color of the wires - the neutral wire is usually colored blue, and the phase wire is black, white or brown.

Then test the thermostat:

  1. Set the minimum temperature value on the regulator,
  2. Apply power to it,
  3. Turn on the heating switch,
  4. Smoothly change the temperature value, when you turn on the heating elements, you should hear a slight click.
  5. Visually check the heating of the floor.

Connection of a warm water floor to a thermostat

In water heating systems, the thermostat controls a special servo drive that regulates the flow of the coolant in the system. So and intended for electric floors they can be programmable and mechanical. Temperature sensors in such systems, as a rule, measure the heating of air, since the heat transfer fluid gives heat to the atmosphere with some delay.

So it looks like the simplest mechanical thermostat for a system of water-heated floor.

  1. When creating a warm water floor, the temperature sensor is usually installed at a height of about one meter, it can be placed in close proximity to the thermostat. Please note that there are no additional sources of heat near the sensor.
  2. After installing the sensor, wire it to the thermostat. There are sensors with the transmission of information over a radio channel - in this case it is necessary to achieve a stable transmission of the signal.
  3. After starting the system, place an ordinary thermometer near the temperature sensor and set a certain heating temperature on the thermostat. For several hours, the system must keep the temperature in a stable state.
Remember that the installation of electrical circuits in the house must be carried out with the protective circuit-breaker switched off.
