Preparation as the key to the success of
Before you begin the insulation of the wall, you should evaluate the quality of the existing base. A good foundation should be free of damage and clean. All dirt and all old fragile layers must be removed mechanically or by running water under high pressure. All the places that are affected by mold and fungus must be treated with a metal brush and antifungal compound. The adhesion of the surface is verified by tapping the hammer."Empty" sounds will indicate that the plaster is not lying against the wall, so it should be removed.
Important! Qualitative preparation of a surface is one of the major problems before the beginning of installation of foam plastic.
The walls must be made of foam plastic only on the treated and primed surface. Walls with a high ability to absorb, for example, aerated concrete, must be treated with a primer based on water. After application, it should dry for at least four hours. The primer plays an important role in the installation of slabs: it does not allow the adhesive composition to dry up too quickly, thus the glue achieves better strength and reliability. On the wall, any unevenness of more than 10 millimeters must be corrected with a putty. Also, all protruding sections of the surface are eliminated.
How to insulate walls with polystyrene?
Fixing the foam on the walls must be done on the correct prepared adhesive mix. This factor is the main answer to the question of how to properly insulate the wall with foam plastic. For this purpose, only special adhesive compositions are used. The contents of the bag with the mixture are poured into the container, and according to the instruction, the necessary amount of water is added. Stir the mixture until a homogeneous mass without lumps is obtained. You can do this with a low-speed drill or a stirrer.
For good adhesion of foam plastic to the wall, it is necessary to make the first working application of the composition. The material is covered with a thin layer of glue, rubbing it into the surface of the foam. This is done before the main layer of glue is applied, so that the adhesion between the foam and the wall increases. Such a process can be skipped if the plates have been primed in advance.
After the glue has been applied to the slab, it must also be applied to the wall. To do this, the spatula-comb is stuck on the wall and spreads evenly. Plates fall from the bottom up, and the seams are bandaged, as in brickwork. For additional fixing the plates are nailed with special dowels. Note! From below, it is necessary to install a support bar for the lower plates.
Plate protection - pledge of longevity
Thermal insulation of walls with polystyrene does not end with fastening of plates. No less important role is played by the subsequent application of the protective layer on the foam. Priming the slab should be done evenly, in one approach. The primer layer dries out within four hours. This layer allows to simplify the process of applying decorative plaster and increase the adhesion between it and the surface of the foam. If the plaster has an intense color, the primer should be similar in color to the putty. Plasters based on silicate and silicone should be laid on a primer based on the same substances.
Important! The layer of plaster provides protection of foam plastic from atmospheric precipitation.
The plaster is applied uniformly in the thickness of the grain with a special grater, which is held at an angle for even distribution of the composition. To collect excess material, a half-ruble is used. After the plaster is applied and completely dried, it should be wiped. This is also done by a special grater. Cover The bark beetle can be decorated with vertical, horizontal and circular lines, making appropriate grater movements. Plaster "under the pebbles" after stripping will resemble densely laid grains-pebbles.
