Wiring diagram of the electricity meter

All existing models of electricity meters are designed to perform one basic function - they measure the amount of electricity consumed by the consumer. As a rule, specially trained people are attracted to install electricity meters. But with a great desire to perform the installation of such a device can be done on their own. It is only necessary to thoroughly understand the connection scheme and follow the instructions in everything.

The market has two main types of counters: induction and electronic. They differ in the mechanism of action and the accuracy of measurements.

Induction models are rapidly being squeezed out of the market. This is actively promoted by the government. The main drawback of the devices in this category is that they are very easy to "deceive", than unscrupulous consumers use with pleasure.

Electronic counters are more versatile, compact and accurate. An additional advantage of modern models is the ability to configure them to work in multi-tariff mode. This point is especially relevant for consumers living in regions with different tariffs for electricity during the day and at night.

Thus, choosing the type of meter for self-installation, it is strongly recommended to give preference to modern electronic models.

In addition, counters are classified according to such parameters as accuracy class and rated current. The smaller the counter class digit, the more precisely it works.

Counter NICK NIC 2102

The required rated current is determined individually. For calculation, please check with your local power sales representative the permissible active power indicator set for one consumer. This number should be divided into 220V or 380V depending on the voltage of your electrical network.

For users connected to a three-phase network, a higher active power threshold is usually set, however, it is not entirely appropriate to use a three-phase connection at home.

Important! If the meter is connected to buildings for which the rated current exceeds 100 A, current transformers are additionally installed. Directly "embed" the measuring device under such conditions will not work.

In such situations, it is important to take into account that the inclusion of intermediate elements in the scheme can adversely affect the accuracy of accounting, therefore it is necessary to approach the planning of the transformer scheme with knowledge. For this, it is better to contact a qualified specialist.

When selecting a meter, we pay attention to the integrity of the seal and the prescription of its installation. You will find the seal on the screws of the counter casing. The maximum permissible period of prescription of the seal for single-phase devices is 12 months, for three-phase ones - 24 months.

Self-connection meter: what does the law say about this?

To avoid problems with the energy sales service, please contact your local office in advance to conclude a contract and obtain the necessary permits for the planned work.

The employee of the said service will give you the documents, which, among other things, will detail the requirements that are mandatory before and during the installation of the electricity meter.

The law requires that meters connected to private homes be installed outside of residential premises. This is done so that, if necessary, an energy sales official can access the accounting equipment. The law requires the owners of apartments to install accounting devices in a common shield, which is, as a rule, located on a landing.

We will not consider complicated connection options.without the appropriate skills alone to cope with such work is unlikely to work.

Scheme of connecting the direct current meter

Direct connection diagram for direct switching power meter

The simplest version is a single-phase connection. It is performed using a maximum of 6 cables and load. Ground, phase and zero wires are connected to the input of the meter. Similar wires are connected to its output.

A circuit breaker is installed in front of the meter. This is done for greater safety and ease of use. A small device will independently switch off the house or apartment from power supply in the event of any kind of dangerous situations.

To avoid problems with the energy sales service, we must seal the switch. To do this, we use an elementary kit consisting of a DIN fastening rail, seals and plastic boxes.

The design of a typical meter consists of a bus. This product is made in the form of a copper strip. Dielectric clamps are used for its fastening. The length of the tire makes a number of holes for the supply of electrical cables and their subsequent attachment. This method of connection is relevant if you need to combine several separate wires into one cable.

Installation of the meter: basic rules and requirements of

We set up the electricity meter with the obligatory observance of the approved rules. First of all, we study the safety requirements for the operation of electrical equipment of any type and purpose.

  1. Counter set at a temperature of not below +5 degrees. Accounting equipment, like any other electronics, does not tolerate the effects of cold.
  2. When installing a counter on the street, we construct a sealed heated cabinet for it. All the necessary materials and devices are sold in specialized stores.
  3. Electric meter is attached at an altitude of 1-1.7 m above the base. With a lower placement of the device, it will simply be inconvenient to look at the readings.

With all the other recommendations and rules, you will be introduced to the representative of the energy inspection service at the time of signing the contract and obtaining other necessary documents.

Step-by-Step Instruction for Installing the

Counter First of all, we prepare the set for work. We will need the following:

  • counter and flap;
  • mounting tools with pre-insulated handles;
  • insulators;
  • switches( automatons);
  • wire;
  • fasteners( screws and nuts);
  • voltage meter;
  • DIN rails.

Setting the counter

Setting up the counter

Next we work in this order.

The first step of the

We will find out whether our electrical network is single- or three-phase. We calculate the required number of switches.

The second step

Install the meter in the body of the protective shield. Mounting is performed with the help of special clips from the kit.

We prepare the installation wires

We prepare the mounting wires

We set up three phases in the meter, connect the lower terminals

We set up three phases in the meter, connect the lower terminals

Counter 1 is connected to phase A, goes from terminal 2 to load;phase B enters into 3 terminals, goes to 4, and phase C enters into 5, and out of 6. 7 and 8 - zero

The terminal of meter 1 enters phase A, goes from terminal 2 to the load;phase B enters into 3 terminals, goes to 4 and phase C enters 5, and exits from 6. 7 and 8 - zero

Third step

Install switches. They will be attached to the DIN-rail with a special spring-loaded latch. The rail itself is pre-fixed with screws to the support insulators.

Fourth step

We are installing the grounding and protective bus. We fix them to the DIN-rail or insulators in the protective shield body. We fix the screws and nuts. Tires are placed at such a distance that the probability of closing the wires was excluded.

First we connect the load to the switches, then we connect the automatic machines with the counter and only after that we perform the connection of the accounting device itself.

Fifth step

Connect the load. We start the phase on the lower terminals of the switches, zero is connected to the zero bus, and the ground wire is connected to the ground bus.

The sixth step

Install jumpers connecting the clamps on top of our machines. Lintels are sold in specialized stores. Pre-purchase the right number of jumpers for the number of machines.

Zero Bus

We screw the wire to the earth bolt

Screw the wire to the ground bolt

Seventh step

Connect the electricity meter to the load. To do this, the output of the "phase"( the third clamp of the meter) is connected to the upper terminals of the automata. Next, connect the output of "zero"( represented by the fourth clamp of the meter) with a zero bus.

Eighth step

Fasten the meter panel to the wall or other suitable level ground for this. We maintain a comfortable height.

Ninth step

Find the phase, zero and ground. In the absence of grounding, we check each conductor with a special indicator. This simple adaptation will help us find the phase. If the grounding is present, you can easily recognize it - usually this vein is colored or marked in green.

Tenth step

Turn off the supply of electricity to the house or apartment.

Eleventh step

Connect the zero wire to the third terminal of the counter, and connect the phase cable to the first terminal.

The twelfth step of the

We check the operation of the electric meter at idle speed, and afterwards we apply the load.

Thirteenth step

Contact the local office of the energy sales service for additional inspection and sealing of accounting equipment.
