Wooden roofing. Production and installation of shingles

click fraud protection

Natural materials have long been used for making roofing. For example, for this purpose, such species of wood as oak, beech, spruce, larch and Canadian cedar are used. Roofing materials from wood in different ways are called in different peoples: shingles, shingles, shindel, shingalas. Let us consider in more detail how a wooden roof is made by hand from shingles.

    shingle-for-roofing

Shingle roof is made of the best quality coniferous wood, namely from such breeds asCanadian cedar, oak and Siberian larch. This material is produced in the form of wooden plates. And they are made by hand.

    Types of shingles:

    1. Sawed.
    2. Stroking.
    3. Mosaic.

In order to increase the service life, the material is impregnated with special media. At the same time, it acquires a certain shade.

    Material characteristics

    1. Shingle is well suited as roofing for roofs, which are exposed to low temperatures, severe climate and large amounts of snow. This material can be successfully used on roofs that have a curved shape. The number of layers to be laid depends on the purpose of the building. A multi-layer coating of shingles creates a waterproof and dense layer on complex roofs.
    2. Roofing from shingles differs from roofs from other roofing materials by the properties and technology of styling. The shingles are usually stacked like scales in a spruce cone. They under the influence of high humidity or precipitation swell, because of what increase in size. Thanks to this, the material on the roof closes. When the plates dry up, they are raised by the dome, so accumulated moisture is removed from the roof.
    3. In a house with a roof covered with this roofing material, it is not hot in summer. This is achieved due to the fact that the wooden surface does not transmit heat, which can not be said about metal and tiles.
    4. Due to the relief structure of the outer surface, the under-roof space is protected from rain noise, hail and gusty wind.
    5. The shingles, like any natural material, can breathe. Therefore, the ventilation of the roof is carried out naturally. In order for the supporting structure to last longer, it is recommended to create a roof according to the shingles-roofing scheme, which results in an additional ventilated gap.

    Methods for making shingles

    shingles-roofing

Wooden shingles are thin plates with a width of 80 to 160 millimeters, 350-450 millimeters long and about 308 millimeters thick. To produce this roofing material, different types of wood are used. For example, pine, aspen, larch and spruce are suitable. The most important thing is that the raw material for the shingle has a smooth trunk without knots.

The material is best prepared in spring, summer and autumn. For the production of shingles, chunks with a cut core are usually used. They split first into two or four parts, the core is cut down, and the part that remains will be split into thin plates called shingles. To ensure that the roof does not rot too quickly, it is important to remove the bark from the logs before work.

In order to manufacture the shredding machine you need:

    1. Take log length of about 3-4 meters and an average diameter of 140 millimeters. Drill a hole with a diameter of 3 millimeters from a distance of 200 millimeters from the end.
    2. Insert a special metal pin into the hole, the length of which must be such that before the work starts it is possible to carefully fix the log in the wooden plow.
    3. In one meter from the butt end with a hole, secure a knife-brace length of about 600 millimeters along the log. The angle must be such that it is possible to remove the required thickness from the shroud lock.
    4. At the second end of the logs, a handle for moving about 400 millimeters in length must be driven in.

    Advantages of shingles

    1. The roof remains sealed for a long time.
    2. Harmony of the material with the environment.
    3. Light weight.
    4. Environmentally friendly.
    5. There is practically no waste left during installation.
    6. The coating does not accumulate static voltage.
    7. No condensation forms under the plates.
    8. The material is resistant to sudden changes in temperature, wind and precipitation.
    9. Can be used successfully at temperatures from +40 to -70 degrees Celsius.

How the roof is made of shingles

    1. The weight of the wooden roof from shingles is relatively small, compared to roofs made of other materials.
    2. The flooring is produced both on continuous and on a rare crate. It usually takes bars of 60 millimeters thick. The distance between the bars and the four-layer coating is about 250 millimeters.
    3. The deck of this roofing material is usually performed directly towards the ridge. For the first and second layers, it is best to use truncated plates. For the first layer, their upper end is fixed to the bar, and the bottom to the board.
    4. The material is attached using 50 mm nails. This is enough for them to pass through the previous layer.

The main components of the wooden roof:

    1. The roof slopes are inclined surfaces.
    2. Skates are formed by the contiguity of skates and represent the upper longitudinal edges.
    3. The edge of the ramp is the corner that protrudes at the intersection.
    4. Barrier - the intersection of the roof slopes( concave part).
    5. Cornice( overhang) - part of the roof, which protrudes beyond the perimeter of the building itself.
    6. Fronton overhang - inclined roof part above the wall.
    7. Downspouts and chutes.
    8. Chimney.

    Installation of wooden roofing

    1. It should be noted some features of making wooden roofing from shingles. So, for example, the first row of material is usually placed in such a way that the closure is located about 40 millimeters from the crate on the leeward side. If this is not observed, then the staircase, due to the influence of the external environment, will begin to deform prematurely, to dry up and to turn black.
    2. The lining is arranged from the overhang of the eaves to the ridge. In this case, the bars for it are cut into two edges. After the lath of the crate, along the eaves, a board is usually fastened. Each bar is clamped at the intersection with the rafter beam.
    3. Such roofing material as shingles is laid with boards. And one of them is needed for mounting the main material. Other bars are required in order to hold the guide. In addition, there must be at least a pair of auxiliary boards. It is for them when laying the tiles shingles will move along the guides.
    4. For the installation of a three-layer coating, it is necessary to fasten the shingles in place of the slabs to the boards with a width of approximately 350 millimeters. If a layer of four layers is laid, then the width of the board should be at least 400 millimeters.
    5. For the extreme range, it is best to use a board with a width of 100 to 200 millimeters. Under the roof should be laid boards. They usually do not absorb water, if suddenly the shingles begin to leak. For this purpose, the material is usually covered in two layers of paint, after which a layer of hot bitumen is also lined.
    6. Where roof slopes are located, roofing material usually wears out faster. To strengthen them, you should increase the coating layer on the slopes at least twice the thickness of the main deck. For example, if the main cover consists of two layers, then at least four should be laid on the descent.
    7. On the descent boards should be laid in such a way that when the three-layer covering is arranged, the shingle is at the same level with the lath of the lath above the board. On this bar is strengthened the second flooring of roofing material. Due to this the rows of shingles are closely adjacent to each other and to the layers that have already been laid. On the wooden roof, made of natural materials, it is best not to arrange razzhelobkov. Otherwise, you will have to lay additional laths of the crate.
