You have chosen and installed gutters and now you do not have to worry that the water from the roof will destroy the foundation of the house or the blind area. Or they installed a drainage system on the site so that the tracks, concrete tiles and other elements of the yard device last longer. But where will the water go further?
Modern storm sewage is an engineering system of drainage channels and water collection tanks, the main purpose of which is to protect the house and the site from the negative effects of moisture. Rainfall or meltwater comes down the drains to the rainwater intake, and then to the trays. This, in fact, the usual capacity of a rectangular, rarely - round, shape. It drains the water directly from the gutters from the roof, from the drainage gutters on the site or by gravity.
Design features of the
The top of the water inlet is covered with a grate made of steel, plastic or cast iron - it protects against large debris, but easily passes water. The quality grille should withstand the weight of the car and not interfere with pedestrians. Avoid getting small debris inside, you can complete the structure with a basket-filter.
It is recommended that it be periodically removed and cleaned. The water intake can be connected through a special outlet to the storm sewage system by means of a pipe from 75 to 150 mm in diameter or be autonomous, for this purpose a special marking for the hole is provided on each wall. If the bend has a septum-siphon, then it will be possible to avoid musty smell on the site. It also prevents garbage from entering the bottom, even if the basket is full.
Cast iron or plastic?
To date, there are 2 types of rainwater collectors - plastic and cast iron. In the near-by areas, plastic is usually installed, while cast iron is used where the load on the storm sewer is particularly high or, for example, the movement of trucks is assumed.
Plastic rainwater receivers are made of polyethylene, polypropylene or polymer foam. The use of these materials offers a number of advantages:
- Low weight. You can install such models without the use of special equipment and even alone.
- Resistance to temperature changes. Plastic drainage can be operated from +90 to -40 degrees.
- Elasticity and resistance to mechanical influences. Movements of soil to such a device are not terrible.
- Chemical inertness. Applied plastic does not react with fuel, minerals contained in the ground.
- It is possible to increase the water intake, thereby lowering the storm sewage pipe below the freezing level of the soil.
Since plastic water receivers are able to withstand less weight than cast iron ones, they are installed in the courtyards of private houses, usually under the draining drainage system, and in pedestrian areas.
For cast iron racks can weigh up to several tens of tons. They are usually used by municipal services for the construction of highways, industrial and storage facilities.
Installation and location rules
On the site, the rainwater intake is usually installed directly under the drainpipe, so that the water jet from it falls into the center. It is also possible to locate at the lowest point of the section where all inclines intersect.
- When the installation site is selected, a pit of the same size as the rainwater receiver is scooped out.
- Its bottom is compacted and a sand or small gravel cushion 10-15 cm thick is poured on it.
- A layer of concrete or cement mortar is then poured in which the whole structure is fixed. When installing the water inlet it is important to align its upper plane in level.
- Preliminary on one side of the container is cut a hole of the appropriate diameter under the pipe. It is inserted into the drain for storm sewage.
- The space between the walls and the pit is poured with the remaining solution to a height of about 10 cm.
- In the rainwater receptacle, partitions are installed in the grooves, then between them the basket, on top - the grate.
Do not forget periodically, once in 2-3 months, and in the rainy season - monthly, clean the basket, and flooding the site you are not afraid.
