power network Step 1 - Determine the type of protection
To date, there are stationary voltage regulators that are installed throughout the house andMobile models that are capable of serving one or more individual electrical appliances. In addition, stationary equipment can be either three-phase or single-phase, depending on the application conditions. Self-connection in this case has its differences: whether you will connect the device to 220 V, or to 380.
As a rule, in private houses and apartments, it will be most correct to connect a single-phase voltage regulator to the network near the switchboard, which will protectthe entire network from overloads. That is why the connection instruction will be provided for a single-phase stationary electrical appliance.
Step 2 - Select the installation location of the
When installing by yourself, things are much more complicated, becauseif you incorrectly install the housing in the house, it can happen at best a failure of the protective device, not to mention the consequences such as a fire.
So, in order to install the voltage regulator in the room itself, consider the following recommendations: The
- room must be dry and well ventilated,one of the main reasons for the failure of the device is the appearance of condensation inside the shell;
- when installing the product in a niche, make sure that the finishing materials are fireproof - brick, concrete, metal or fiberglass;
- , observe the air gap between the enclosure and the walls. On all sides, the indent should be no less than 10 cm;
- if you decide to install a voltage regulator on the wall with your own hands, take care that the stand( or the anchor) can withstand the weight of the wall case.
We also recommend viewing the visual video of the installation and connection instructions on the wall in the house:
Step 3 - Making the connection to the electrical network
Actually, connecting the voltage regulator to the network in the house is quite simple. At the rear of the device is a terminal block on 5 connectors. Typically, the sequence of wiring is as follows( from left to right): the lead-in phase and zero, ground, phase and zero, going to the load. In the photo below you can see the location of the connectors:
All you need is to select the correct cable cross section for power and current, then make the installation yourself, according to the scheme( for single-phase device):
Requirements and recommendations for connecting the voltage regulator with your own hands:
- Be sure to turn off the electricity on the lead-in shield before electrical work.
- Additionally, protect the product with a circuit-breaker and a RCD, which will prolong its service life. It is recommended to install the automation after the counter, but before the overvoltage protection.
- The household electrical network must necessarily have a ground loop. Do not connect without grounding for reasons of electrical safety.
- Installation of the voltage regulator in the house in front of the meter is prohibited, and it is very difficult to achieve the placement of protection to the electricity meter. It is better to make the installation yourself, as shown in the diagram above.
- You can not connect the device immediately after you bring it from the frost into the house. Let the electronics "go away" and all the condensate inside evaporate, otherwise, as we said above, the life of the device will be drastically reduced. This also includes a ban on connecting the product on the street.
- Protection, power less than 5 kW is connected directly to the outlet. This option is ideal for a garage, country house and villa. Some make installation of a mobile voltage regulator separately on a computer, TV, boiler, air conditioner, generator or washing machine, which allows you to protect only a certain type of household appliances.
- If you need to connect an overvoltage protection device in a three-phase network, it is better to buy three single-phase devices at 220V and connect them to a star circuit than one to 380V.So you will save money not only for the purchase of the stabilizer, but also for its repair( to repair a single-phase device by an order of magnitude cheaper than a three-phase one).
- After wiring work, check the correct connection and installation by switching on the input automat on the switchboard. If nothing buzzes, does not crack and does not spark, then you did everything right.
- Do not connect the device to a higher power load. The reserve of protection capacity should be from 20 to 30%.
- The correct wiring diagram is usually indicated on the product housing. First of all, be guided by it, but if there is no prompt from the manufacturer, we recommend to connect according to this instruction. All popular models( from the companies Resant, Leader) should be connected by this technology.
That's the whole technology of installing and connecting the voltage regulator with your own hands. As you can see, there is nothing complicated, it is important to consider all the requirements and recommendations. Finally, I would like to note that you should annually check the reliability of connecting the wires in the terminal block and, if necessary, tighten the screws.
