Pneumatic drill - expensive tool for further savings

General information

Pneumatic drills are tools that are used for drilling on conveyor lines in various industries. They are divided by power, execution, the presence of a reverse and the maximum possible drilling diameter. There are the following types:

  • Straight - they are executed so that the axis of the engine and the axis of the cartridge coincide. Basically, their shape is similar to a gun;
  • The front end looks like a screwdriver;
  • Pneumatic corner drill - the axis of rotation of the cartridge is placed at an angle to the body.

Domestic industry produces only end and straight tools, does not produce corners. They are designated as: a pneumatic tool( IP), then, if there is a figure of 10 - then this is a straight drill, if 11 is angular. All instruments have a different rotational speed, but the most optimal speed is 1500-1800 rpm. The minimum speed is 250 revolutions, and the largest in turbine vehicles reaches 18,000 revolutions.

In the domestic market, 90 percent of all drills are straight, and only 10 percent occupy the corner and end types.

Note! Pneumatic drills are mainly narrow-headed. So, the pneumatic reversible drill is used for drilling at an angle, and it is inconvenient to do direct drilling.

All for and against

Pneumodrill in its technical characteristics greatly exceeds both electric and hand tools. Its wide use in the industry is associated with a number of advantages:

  • Reliable, durable and less susceptible to breakdown, especially with frequent use;
  • It can be used in places with high explosive danger, as there is no sparking;
  • Easy and simple operation;
  • Long service life;
  • Dimensions and weight of the pneumatic drill are smaller than those of power tools with the same characteristics;
  • Repairability and low maintenance.

However, there is a serious flaw. At the initial stage of equipping, serious costs are required to acquire all the units necessary for operation. This is due to the fact that, in addition to the instrument itself, it is also necessary to buy a compressor, lay pneumatic lines, mount various equipment for the preparation of compressed air and organize a workplace. But the initial costs are fairly quickly paid off due to the high productivity of this type of tool.

Note! The efficiency of the unit depends on the correct choice of the compressor.

Pneumatic drill and its varieties

Like any other tool, pneumatic drills are divided into consumer and professional. This classification is based on the characteristics of the device. Household tools are necessary for use in small workshops, garages and for household chores, so their resource is not large. A professional tool has a resource reserve for ten years with everyday use.

Note! The greatest number of opportunities have so-called semi-professional drills, which represent a cross between domestic and professional.

In fact, the quality of both types of drills is not particularly different, because they are produced by the same firms. However, with the use of special alloys and materials, high-quality bearings, and at times even manual assembling, the performance of the professional devices is much better, and the service life is also extended.
