Self-made clamps - is it worth starting such trouble?
Clamp is a kind of clamp used to fix parts or tightly press them together. This is an indispensable tool, which you can not do without, if you need to saw something, dilute the saw teeth or sharpen it, glue it together, and so on. Before how to make the clamp, you need to know how it is arranged.
The most common clamp consists of the following elements: main frame, movable element, clamping jaws, lever. The movable part by means of a thread changes the distance between the clamping jaws of the device, and the lever makes it possible to control the clamping force.
There are other types of quick-action clamping devices, for example, a lever locking device. It is based on a system of levers and eccentrics. But such a device is difficult to manufacture at home.
Clamp with own hands - stages of manufacturing
The clamp described, the drawing for manufacturing of which can be easily found on the Internet, is assembled from the following materials: two studs with a thread of 200 mm in length and 5 mm in diameter and two more of the same section but 120 mmlength;suitable nuts for them;two plywood boards 15 × 150 × 200 mm and two slats 20 × 40 × 240 mm. It is better to use bars from hardwood, for example, ash, oak, birch or beech.
Such a wooden clamp will be attached to the desktop. In the bars, which are the fastening of the future clamp to the workbench, it is necessary to drill two holes in such a way that the stud with the nuts press them against each other. For greater stability and strength of the structure, the bottom bar should be placed flat, and the upper one - with the edge to the table surface.
Next, planks are installed from plywood, and a bar is attached to them, which is fastened to the table top. The bottom edge of the boards should be about 3 cm below the bar. All three elements must be drilled through: in the resulting holes will subsequently be inserted studs.
After that one of the plates is securely fixed to the lower bar, and the second one will be clamping. Thus, the clamping of the clamp will be carried out by a moving strip of plywood. Short pins are used to fix the clamp to the table top, and long ones determine the working stroke of this device. Nuts play the role of a lever that fixes the moving part and regulates the clamping force.
Manual clamp - we use for the base hob
Homemade clamps have their own strength, which is slightly lower than the store analogs, but such a device will cope with the tasks assigned to it, provided that it is properly used. The manual clamp can also be made from a hacksaw body for metal, which resembles it in shape.
To do this, you need a sliding hammer, two threaded studs and suitable nuts. You just need to insert the studs into the clamping connectors of the hacksaw body.
Nuts are wound on the inside of the case. The resulting clamp will have two sizes, because the metal frame of the hacksaw can be decomposed into two positions. Since the tool body is foldable, it will break in the middle when clamping with nuts. In order for this not to happen, the folding part must be tightly wrapped with electrical tape. If necessary, it is also possible to quickly reassemble the hacksaw from the received device.
