Creating comfortable living conditions is one of the main problems facing owners of apartments and houses. Certainly, when it comes to this, but involuntarily, the issues of energy supply, warming and heating, water supply and sewerage, beautiful and hygienic finishing and so on come to the fore. And very often the very concept of soundproofing is simply overlooked. And it's completely vain - after all, it's impossible to create a truly cozy home, unless reliable protection against external noise is provided.
This problem is especially acute for residents of apartments in multi-storey buildings. Alas, we have to admit that during the period of mass urban construction the emphasis was on the scale, the minimum time for the construction of houses, and the issues of soundproofing clearly did not stand in the priority of either the designers or the builders, and for years the citizens waiting for their turn were welcome to anyonehabitation "with conveniences".Well, what level of sound insulation in high-rise buildings is known, probably, to all. However, this problem is also relevant for residents of private houses, especially if there is a busy road or railway line nearby, or neighbors have a rather "watchful" dog barking day and night.
What is the solution? Take initiative in your own hands and provide yourself with comfortable living independently. A modern range of construction stores offers many materials to combat the penetration of external noise. In particular, soundproof panels for walls, as the most convenient for self-assembly, are in great demand. These products can seriously differ in their structure, material of manufacture, dimensions, installation technology. Let's try to understand their diversity.

Before proceeding to the consideration of specific models of soundproof panels, one should at least a little understand the "physics" of sound propagation in residential buildings. This will help to understand the very essence of using the appropriate materials and structures.
So, disturbing noise in a living room can have different causes.
- First of all, it is an air noise - that is, one that is transmitted by the usual fluctuations of air. Typical examples are loud conversations, the sounds of traffic passing through the street, working household appliances, including televisions, audio centers, etc., musical instruments and much more. Air vibrations are partially extinguished or reflected by partitions, but are able to find propagation channels through loose interconnection of building structures, openings, ventilation ducts, openings in walls( for example, socket outlets and switches). In addition, sufficiently light partitions can become a kind of "transfer link" - air vibrations "swing" them, and the walls, carrying out the role of the membrane, transfer them further.
- There are many worries about percussion noise. They are caused by mechanical action on the surface of building structures, impact or vibration properties. Oscillations spread over ceilings and partitions over considerable distances, and the building structures themselves by acoustic noise emitters.
. Such cases include sounds of falling objects, repair work( classic examples are a hammer or a puncher), heavy walking of neighbors from above, or jumping of children who have been upset. Sometimes the source of this noise are household appliances. For example, the vibrating effect can be produced by an unstable installed washing machine or even a subwoofer standing on the floor, transmitting the expressed low-frequency oscillations to the overlap.
With shock noise, it's hardest to fight. Sometimes even its source is difficult to determine, since fluctuations are transmitted in all directions through building structures on several floors.
- In addition, very often there are so-called structural noise. These are sounds or vibrations from operating ventilation systems, power plants located in the house, elevators, etc. Structural noise can also be of an air or impact nature.
- Separately, you can also note acoustic noise. They are conditioned not by an external but by an internal source of sound. A classic example is a reflected booming echo in a spacious room. With such noise, it is not so often necessary to fight - they are usually invisible, if the room is finished, is furniture-bound, and this question is more relevant for recording, television or broadcasting studios and other similar premises. But still sometimes you have to resort to measures to eliminate them in the apartment. For example, the owners want to take some room under the "home theater", and at the same time strive for the most accurate transmission of sound, without any reflected distortions.
Why this was said? In order to get clarity - there are simply no universal materials that can cope with all types of noise. Thus, the intensity of air sound waves can be significantly reduced by establishing on their way porous or fibrous structures - part of the energy will be expended on the vibrations of the particles of this material. But a rigid partition in this issue is unlikely to be an assistant - it is not excluded even the resonance effect, when such a barrier will even enhance the noise effect. And for impact noise, on the contrary, it is necessary to create massive barriers, the materials of which will prevent transmission of vibrations.
Some homeowners by inexperience believe that sound insulation is suitable for any insulation. However, practice shows that this is far from being the case. Some thermal insulation materials, on the contrary, will contribute to sound resonance, creating the exact opposite of the desired result.
Is it worth to consider "penoplex" as a soundproof material?
We can say at once that this is a very controversial issue, and there are many reasons to refuse such noise isolation. All this is in the special publication of our portal dedicated to the sound insulation of ceiling sound insulation.
Specialists in the field of acoustics say categorically - you can not talk about the effectiveness of using as a soundproofing of a material. The proper effect can be obtained only when using soundproofing structures that combine several principles of suppression( absorption) of shock and air noise.
For example, in order to reduce the level of air noise, this design is considered to be optimal, based on the principle of "massiveness-absorption-massiveness":
On the noise source side, the first "shock" is taken up by a partition of a dense massive materialitem 1).Partially sound waves will be reflected from it. In addition, dense material is not so easy to make you hesitate - this will also consume a large part of the energy.
Next, the waves pass through a fairly soft, porous or fibrous material - for example, mineral wool, foam rubber or a special wood composite. The wave energy is dissipated, wasted by the vibrations of this loose structure, without significant transfer further.
Significantly weakened by the previous two layers of sound waves is no longer able to "shake" the third obstacle( item 3), a rigid partition, and the total transmission of air noise is reduced to a minimum or even completely to zero.
To prevent the propagation of impact noise, another approach is needed, for example, the use of high-density materials along with viscosity, which will be able to suppress fluctuations in building structures. An example of such material is sheets or cloths of "texaund".Despite the small thickness, due to the increased density and structural elasticity, this mineral-based material effectively suppresses sound and vibration vibrations.
These and other principles are based on the developers of special soundproof panels for walls and ceilings. Their efforts are aimed at creating an effective anti-noise barrier in combination with the maximum possible completeness of the design and ease of installation.
Some popular types of soundproofing panels for
walls
mineral wool panels Perhaps, it is right to make a reservation at once - this kind of material itself does not act as a complete structure, but is used to create soundproof partitions along with other components and details. Nevertheless, mention should be made of them.
By and large, virtually all fibrous insulating materials are capable of absorbing sound waves. But still manufacturers of heaters offer in the range of special types, designed specifically for this application.
There are a lot of varieties on sale. So, the plates "Noisy" are used on the basis of basalt or glass fibers. The Belgorod company "IZOVOL" offers a specialized product line "Izovol - Protection against noise".And for closer acquaintance, you can see the panels of the famous company "Rockwool" with the characteristic name "Acoustic Batts".
These are basalt fiber slabs( rock mineral wool), that is, the material is natural, environmentally friendly. Special treatment panels gives them hydrophobic properties - the material does not absorb moisture. Particular merit - class "NG", that is, this soundproofing device does not burn and does not contribute to the spread of fire. The material is biostock - that is, it does not decompose over time and does not serve as a breeding ground for mold colonies or rodent nests.
Competent use of Acoustics Butts panels in the system allows to significantly reduce the level of air noise - the soundproofing index( Rw) of the whole created design reaches 63 dB.And this, by the way, is comparable to the noise level from a busy highway.
The density of the material is 45 kg / m3, that is, it is not difficult to work with it. The panels are easy to cut, and at the same time they perfectly hold the form given to them in the process of production, without showing a tendency to shrink.
As well as it is necessary to all mineral wool materials, besides soundproofing of a plate "Acoustic Batts" differ and excellent thermoinsulating qualities. Thus, the coefficient of thermal conductivity, depending on the operating conditions, is from 0.035 to 0.040 W / m × ° C.
The plates are easy to mount - 1000 × 600 × 50 mm.
Typical applications for soundproofing are the erection of interior partitions or the creation of an additional noise-absorbing barrier on ready-made walls.
wall structure In both cases, a frame structure is used that is assembled from metal profiles or from a wooden beam. After laying the Acoustic Butts panels, the surface is lined in one or more layers with plasterboard or other sheet material( plywood, OSB, MDF, etc.) which will already serve as the basis for finishing.
To improve the sound-insulating qualities of the design, it is desirable to use an integrated approach. As already mentioned, fibrous material helps to fight the spread of air noise, but ineffective against shock. One of the variants of the "multi-purpose" noise insulation is shown in the figure below:
. A wall made of galvanized metal profiles is assembled on the wall( position 1), which requires the creation of a soundproof structure(key 2) or beams. To reduce the vibration transmission from the floor to the frame, strips of dense soundproof material( pos.3), such as "texaund", or at least thick felt, are placed under the guides. The space between the guides is densely filled with basalt plates "Acoustics Butts"( item 4) or others similar to them.
The outer lining is drywall( item 6), but in this case a layer of the same "tesaund" is glued to it all over the back surface - this will significantly reduce the spread of impact noise.
When mounting the frame under sound-proof construction, it is recommended to use not special, but special fastening elements( suspensions) equipped with a damper anti-vibration insert. This will give even greater efficiency to the entire system being created. By the way, this requirement applies to all other soundproof materials, the installation of which provides for the preliminary installation of the frame structure.
Soundproofing panels "PhoneStar"
The multi-layered construction discussed above is quite effective, but it "eats" a lot of useful area of the room. If you approach from this point of view, it is more profitable to use soundproof panels "PhoneStar".
This is a proprietary development of the German company "Wolf Bavaria", whose designers managed to implement several principles of noise reduction in panels with a thickness of only 12 mm.
The panel itself is a multi-layer construction( triplex). Its frame itself is made of a composite based on natural cellulose fibers. Flat layers are separated by a space that provides undulating bridges, like corrugated cardboard. All voids inside the panel are filled with mineral granulate based on purified quartz sand.
This design allows us to apply several important conditions to suppress noise.
- Firstly, it is a multi-layer, in which different material densities alternate. In addition, the complex shape of the internal bridges repeatedly reflects sound waves in different directions, which contributes to their dispersion.
- Secondly, the loose mineral structure is an excellent absorber of sound waves. The energy of the wave is wasted on the shift of quartz grains, with the transition to thermal.
- Thirdly, the plasticity of cellulose prevents transmission of vibrations, which is very important for counteracting the propagation of impact noise.
- And, fourthly, the above-mentioned massiveness mentioned above is again due to the mineral backfill.
The basic characteristics of soundproof panels "PhoneStar" are given in the table:
Characteristics | Dimensions |
---|---|
Dimensions: | |
length | 1195 mm |
width | 795 mm |

Impact noise reduction( ΔLnw) | 33.8 dB( up to 75%) |
Such panels are quite suitable for soundproofing any surfaces inapartment.
On the walls they can be mounted on the frame crate. But in this case, the laying of additional fibrous materials in the lumen will not be necessary, and the frame structure will perform only an equalizing function. Thus, the guides can be attached as close to the wall as possible.
Well, if the wall is prepared in advance - to remove all the defects and qualitatively align, then you can attach the "PhoneStar" panels directly to it. To do this, use branded acoustic dowels-nails "Wolf", which exclude the transmission of vibrations from the wall to the panel.
Panels are mounted butt-end to back. At the same time, the principle of "brickwork" is observed, that is, the upper rows are installed with an offset, "in a runaway".
After the end of the installation, the knocks are glued with a special polymer tape, and the slots are filled with silicone sealant.
In principle, such a surface can already serve as a basis for further finishing - it is tightened with reinforcing mesh and shpatlyuyut. However, it is recommended to cover it with a layer of plasterboard - and the surface will be more reliable, and the GCR will also be included in the general soundproofing system, increasing its efficiency. When mounting it is recommended to use self-tapping screws for gypsum, with a two-threaded thread.
It is important that the length of the screws is no more than the total thickness of the GCR and the "PhoneStar" panels - if the fastener rests against the wall, a "vibratory bridge" is formed that will propagate the oscillations.
So, soundproof panels "PhoneStar" - this is an excellent solution to the problem of noise insulation of walls.
Soundproof panels "SoundGuard Standart"
Similar to the "PhoneStar" principle, the "SoundGuard" panels are designed and operated, the development of the company "Soundproof European Technologies".They are represented by four models:
- "SoundGuard EkoZvukoIzol";
- "SoundGuard Slim";
- "SoundGuard Standart";

For an example, you can consider the model of the middle price category - "SoundGuard Standart".
The panel is a seven-layer structure made of high-strength cardboard. All internal cavities are filled with heat-treated quartz granulate of the optimally selected fraction.
Panels can be attached directly to the wall( using acoustic dowels or special glue) with subsequent facing of plasterboard, relative to the wall surface using special vibro-fasteners, or used to create baffles on the frame structure.
The main characteristics of the panels "SoundGuard Standart" are summarized in the table:

Soundproof panels ZIPS
In 1999, a group of process engineers ZAO Acoustic Group was invented anda unique system of soundproofing of building structures was patented, which was called "Soundproof Panel System", from which the abbreviation of ZIPS came.
The task of developers was to get away from the multi-layer frame structure of the soundproofing system in order to simplify the installation work. However, this should not have affected the effectiveness of its "work".As a result, a multi-layered sandwich panel was preferred, followed by facing with gypsum board.
The main "working" element of the ZIPS system, in fact, is the sandwich panel itself.
1 - a layer of fibrous mineral sound absorbing material.
2 - two layers of gypsum-fiber sheets( GVL), located with a ledge to create an assembly protruding part( lamellae).Layers GVL provide the necessary rigidity for frameless installation of the system.
3 - for mounting the panels to the wall, each of them is provided with 8 mounting silicone vibration isolation units, which significantly reduce the transmission of oscillations from the partition.
The system also includes drywall sheets, which are recommended to use their special acoustic variety - "Aku Line" of the trade mark "Giprok".This material is produced using a special technology and has an increased density. These sheets of GKLA not only simply complete the facing of the insulated wall. GKL will protect the fastening points, will additionally close all junction sites, and, due to the difference in density with GVL, exclude the probability of resonant phenomena.
The sheets of gypsum plasterboard "Aku-Line" can be easily distinguished by the characteristic violet color of the front surface. The standard dimensions are 1200 × 2500 mm with a thickness of 12.5 mm.
In addition, for the creation of insulating gaskets with intersecting surfaces( adjacent walls, floor and ceiling), a special anti-vibration tape "Vibrostek-M" is used.
For the installation works and subsequent closing of the remaining slots, it is recommended to use the proprietary silicone sealant "Vibrosil".
The range of ZIPS includes several models. For sound insulation of the walls, three types are used: "ZIPS-VECTOR", "ZIPS-MODULE" and "ZIPS-CINEMA".The main difference is the thickness of the sound-absorbing layer and the material of its manufacture. Accordingly, the performance characteristics of the system and the scope of its application vary.

If necessary, it can also be used for installation in other, including residential areas. |
Scheme of installation of the sound-insulating system ZIPS is shown in the figure( for the example of "ZIPS-Vector"):
1 - the wall to be soundproofed;
2 - damper layer "Vibrostek-M"( adjacent walls and ceiling) or "Silomer SR11"( by sex).
3 - sound-proof panel "ZIPS-Vector";
4 - wall fixing dowel to the wall, installed through a silicone vibration isolation unit.
5 - layer of gypsum plasterboard GKLA "Aku Line":
6 - self-tapping screws ensuring fixation of gypsum board.
- Undoubtedly, once the frame structure is not used, the wall should be prepared - repaired and leveled with plaster mortar.
- Two layers of Vibrostek-M tape are glued on the surface of adjacent walls and on the ceiling with the Vibrosil sealant. On the floor similarly is the tape "Silomer SR11".The arrangement of these tape gaskets must be such as to prevent contact with the capital surfaces of either the plate itself over its entire thickness or plasterboard lining.
- The panel is installed to the wall, if necessary( in areas adjacent to walls and floor), the mounting ridge is cut off.
- Through the vibrating nodes in the wall holes are drilled for dowels. The depth of the holes in the wall material is not less than 60 mm. Then the dowels themselves are inserted with barely screwed screws. On each screw there should be a cone washer. With a hammer, carefully screw the screw into the dowel, until it stops, and then screw it up so that the head is immersed in the material of the vibrating assembly by 1 - 2 mm.
If a whole panel is installed, then six fixtures located around the perimeter are sufficient. In the event of any trimming of the panel, all the remaining attachment points are used.
The panels are installed with a combination of locking slats. The rows are mounted( in a run), with a displacement of the lateral joints not less than 250 mm. The lengths of panels less than 250 mm long are not used.
After installing the panels, they are additionally fixed to each other by plasterboard self-tapping screws through the combs of the connecting locks in 150 mm steps.
- After the installation and fixing of the panels, the joints between them are filled with Vibrosil sealant.
- Then you can proceed to the lining of the GKLA system. Self-tapping screws 3.9 × 41 mm are used, with a vertical pitch of 200 mm, horizontally - 400 mm. Care must be taken to ensure that self-tapping screws do not fall on the attachment points and on the screws of self-tapping screws that fasten the panels together.
After the cladding, it will be necessary to trim the outward-facing Vibrostek-M linings, and you can proceed to prepare the gypsum board surface for further finishing.

Soundproof panels "Ruspanel-Comfort"
Another domestic development, the company LLC "Russian Panel Group."
The principle of soundproofing is a multi-layer construction with alternating layer densities. In the range of products - panels with a thickness of 22, 29 and 32 mm. The approximate scheme of the construction is shown in the picture:
1 - a layer of soft wood-fiber board of special structure( MDVP).
2 - connecting layer of polymer-concrete composite.
3 - a layer of extruded polystyrene foam, simultaneously performing, in addition to noise absorption, also a heat insulation function.
4 - outer layer, reinforced with a glass net, from polymer-concrete composite.
The outer coating is highly durable and can serve as a ready base for filling and subsequent finishing.
The release of "SML-Comfort" panels is provided, in which instead of polymer-concrete the outer surface is made of glass-magnesite sheet.
In addition, the production of panels "Ruspanel - Comfort 2( 32)", which are characterized by the double arrangement of layers of extruded polystyrene( XPS), is mastered.
MDF plate. The panels are equipped with connecting lamellas - the edge is chosen "in a quarter", which ensures a tight fit when mounted on walls.
For an example - the main characteristics of the panel "RPG-Comfort-22"

The panels are completely ready for installation. Their installation is made on polyurethane adhesive( it is recommended to use the branded, maximally adapted - "RUSPANEL"), applied zigzag on the back side and on the connecting "quarters".Additional fixing, if necessary, is carried out with the help of screws( dowels) with the mandatory installation of the washer "Fix sd-35".Typically, the whole panel has 11 attachment points.
wall. After fixing the panels to the wall, the joints and the remaining gaps are additionally glued with fiberglass mesh band-serpyanka. Then you can proceed to finishing works - applying a thin plaster layer. For finishing works, it is recommended to use dry building mixtures "RUSPANEL", plaster and shpatlevochnuyu.
Soundproof triplex panels "Soundline-dB"
The panels "Soundlane-dB" are a three-layer construction. In fact, these are two sheets of weighted moisture-resistant gypsum-fiber material( GVL-VU), each 8 mm thick, joined together by an elastic layer of special elastic sealant. This arrangement of materials gives a high soundproof effect.
The panels "Soundlane-dB" are used for framing partitions or for wall cladding.
