A good alternative to a brick sauna oven is a metal boiler with a heater. It can be made with your own hands, having the skill of welding, and in quality, it will not be inferior to the purchase. The material for making the boiler can be a metal pipe, a thick-walled barrel or sheet iron.
Features of the boiler device for the
furnace The boiler, like any other bath oven, must necessarily consist of the following parts:
- A firebox in which fuel combustion takes place;
- Chimney, through which smoke is removed from the burnt fuel;
- Ash pit for ash extraction;
- A heater that allows you to redistribute and remove heat;
- Water tank.
You can make a boiler without a stove, the heating of the sauna in this case will occur only from the walls of the boiler and the tank, but the steam in such a bath will be heavy, because the heat from the furnace will be used only for heating the water, while it will quickly boil and fill the bath thickferry.
The furnace of the boiler is made of thick-walled metal - it carries the greatest thermal load, and the thin metal will quickly burn out. The bottom of the furnace must be equipped with a grate, through which ash from the firewood pours out into the ash pan. The thickness of the grate should be at least 5 mm.
The ash pan is a space under the furnace, the purpose of which is to collect the ash and to conveniently extract it. Through the ash pan door, air is taken to the furnace, which causes burning of fuel.
Chimney is part of the furnace system. It must be equipped with a gate valve or a gate valve, the degree of opening of which can be regulated by traction. Chimney passes through a tank or stove, heats them and ends with a chimney.
A heater is a built-in or hinged capacity in the boiler, which contains special stones for the bath. The volume of the stove depends on the size of the boiler and the bath itself: too small a stove can not warm up the room, and too much will require a long heating of the stones, during this time the water in the tank will boil and the bath will be filled with water vapor, it will become hot and uncomfortable. Therefore, you should follow the rule: the volumes of the heater, the water tank and the firebox should not be very different.

Required tools, materials
For the manufacture of a bath boiler, the following tool will be needed:
- Welding machine;
- Bulgarian with a cutting circle.
In addition to sheet metal or barrels, the following will also be needed:
- trimming of the armature and channel for the manufacture of internal through baffles;
- sheet of thick-walled( minimum 5 mm) metal for grate;
- pipe with a diameter of about 100 mm;
- metal hinges for the door;
- tank crane.
To create a screen that allows you to better distribute heat by the volume of the steam room, use fireproof brick. It is laid out on the outside of the walls closely or at a certain distance, or they are lined with internal walls of the furnace.
Boiler for bath from a barrel
The simplest design, which makes the boiler from the materials at hand. Carry out such a boiler from a metal barrel with a wall thickness of at least 3 mm - thinner walls will quickly burn out.
- The bottom of the barrel is cut out and instead of it a bottom of metal with a thickness of at least 5 mm is installed with welded legs from the cuttings of the channel or I-beam.
- At a distance of 3-5 cm from the bottom of the Bulgar saw a window measuring 15x10 cm - this will be the door of an ash-pit and a ash pan. The door itself is made from a cut piece of metal. Weld to the door hinges and handle-bolt. Fasten the door to the place.
- Above the ash pan for 5-7 cm inside the barrel welded grate - a sheet of metal, cut in barrel form, with holes for air intake and ash precipitation. The holes are usually made longitudinal, in the center, with a length of 1/2 of the diameter of the grate. You can simply weld a row of rods from thick fittings inside the grate.
- At 5-10 cm above the grate, by analogy with the door of the sump, the furnace door is cut, at least 25x40 cm in size, otherwise it will be inconvenient to put firewood into it. Just weld the handle-bolt, hinges, put the door in place. The walls of the furnace are lined with refractory bricks.
- A heater is located above the furnace, while the height of the furnace is selected as 1/3 of the barrel height minus the ash pan. The partition between the furnace and the stove is not solid, it is made from cuttings of the channel, and the holes between them must not exceed the size of the stones. The height of the heater is approximately equal to the height of the furnace. In the middle part of the heater it is necessary to make a window with a door - through it stones are poured into the boiler, and water is poured into it when it is soared. .
- The upper part of the barrel plays the role of a water tank. The partition between the heater and the tank must be solid, the seams are well welded, and in the center of the partition an opening of about 100 mm in diameter is made, to which a section of the pipe twice as large as the height of the water tank is welded. Heating of water in such a tank is carried out due to the hot smoke passing through the pipe, as well as the thermal radiation from the stones in the heater.
- The top of the tank is made in the form of a lid, through which water is poured. You can just make a hole, but then the tank will be uncomfortable to wash. In the lower part of the tank, a piece of a half-inch pipe is welded, and a tap is attached to it by threading.
The resulting boiler is scraped from scale and rust and, if desired, covered with heat-resistant polymer paint - it is sold in stores selling sauna furnaces.
sheet metal boiler It is executed in the same way, but the boiler section will not be round, but square or rectangular. The main material is sheet metal with a thickness of 3 mm. The boiler door can be made from scrap metal or welded ready, bought in the store. It is necessary to start the execution of such a boiler from the drawing, as correct cutting will help to save material.
The boiler consists of a water heating tank( a) with a chimney passing through it( 1);stoves( b) with lining( 3) and sinuses( 4);furnace( c) with a brick lining( 5) and the doors of the furnace and ash pan( 6, 7).Limits are welded on each section( 2).
The arrangement of the structural elements is the same as in the boiler from the pipe: from below the ash pan, above it the combustion chamber, above it - the heater. The boiler can be dismounted if the sections are not welded together. The insulation of the joints from the smoke in this case is made of asbestos.
The sheet metal boiler allows to slightly improve the design and remove the furnace door into the dressing room or washing room, thereby extending the furnace. A water tank in a rectangular oven can be placed both above the stove and on one of the walls. In the second variant of placement, the water of the tank wall will serve as a shield from the hard infrared radiation.
