Access door to the attic - basic requirements for the results
The attic door will provide an opportunity to free up additional useful area that can be used for a variety of needs: from installing equipment, for example, ventilation, to the construction of a residential attic floor.
The access door to the attic should be characterized by simple installation, durability and functionality, usability, attractive design. The cover must be well sealed and insulated to avoid leakage of warm air masses from the living area. A ladder for such a hatch is required light, but strong enough, with a simple folding mechanism.
The factory hatch in the attic with a staircase, the dimensions of which are standardized and are usually 60x120 cm, are overwhelmingly equipped with a thin lid made of fiberboard. Such hatches allow the leakage of warm air, which leads to significant energy losses. If the attic space is not insulated, it would be more appropriate to make a passage to the attic on its own and take care of the insulation.
Luke attic - we prepare the door
The first step is to determine the location of the future exit to the attic. If possible, it should be located on the landing, but at the same time not too close to the flight of stairs. Such a laz, located in the bedroom, will only cause inconvenience. The slope of the roof also plays a very important role, since for the convenience of using this exit above the hatch there must be enough space.
After that, you can begin assembling the frame to exit to the top. For this purpose boards with a thickness of 30 mm are suitable. Since the hatch should be compact enough, it is better to stick to standard sizes. The frame must be made rectangular with the same angles of 90 °.
To produce a heat-insulated hatch cover, a sheet of fiberboard, cut to the inside dimension of the frame, is suitable. On the fiberboard, you can paste a sheet of expanded polystyrene, which, in turn, is glued with another sheet of fiberboard. To seal the attic hatch on the inner perimeter of the frame, it is necessary to glue the rubber band.
The resulting door is fastened to the frame with hinges. For convenience, the door can be screwed to the door, and it is better to equip the door with a latch. For smooth opening of the hatch to the inside of the longitudinal boards of which the frame is made, and special closers are required to attach to the door.
Luke in the attic - the final stage of the
Next, you can proceed to cut through the opening for the hatch loft with a ladder. By the size of the frame at the selected location, an opening is cut out. If possible, you need to cut only one ceiling beam. At the edges of the resulting cutout, it is necessary to collect another frame, which clearly indicates the boundaries of the opening under the hatch.
This strapping is attached to the ceiling beams using 100 mm nails, and already attached to it is a previously assembled frame with a hatch cover. From below it is required to process the damaged edges of putty or plaster, and it is better to bypass the frame to give the aperture a more accurate appearance.
This cover can be used together with an aluminum ladder, which is sold separately, but for greater convenience it will be better to make a folding or retractable ladder, or buy a ready-made version. In most cases, the length of the ladder should correspond to the height of the ceiling, although longer staircases can be used.
