Roof from shingles - what can be characterized?
Shaving poles are a natural and absolutely environmentally friendly building material that is used for decoration of facades and roofing. They are wooden plates of certain sizes. Apparently, because of its popularity, the shingle roof has several names: wooden tile, shingle or shingles.
Manufacture of shingles by hand is made in a chopped manner, that is, wood is cast on boards that can have a wedge-shaped or rectangular shape. The layered installation of wooden tiles will provide multi-layer waterproofing, as well as give the house an aesthetic appearance.
It is most optimal to produce such material from coniferous species of wood, for example, cedar or larch, since such wood contains a large concentration of tannins, which protect wood from weathering and rotting.
The shingle roof has a significant drawback - it must be periodically treated with fireproof antiseptics, because it is a flammable material. But even after all treatments, the combustibility of such a roof is quite high.
How to make shingles - is it worth starting this troublesome occupation?
Before you can make shingles yourself, you should not rush and weigh everything properly, as the wood has to be chopped in a special way, and if the roof area is large, this occupation will take a very long time. In addition, there are many companies engaged in making shingles professionally.
There is also a copper shingle shingle, which is an analog of wooden shingles. Copper roofing has the highest performance characteristics, but at the same time there is such a pleasure not cheap.
For facade decoration, siding "shingles" is often used. This decoration will give any structure a unique and attractive. In old houses, walls and ceilings are stitched with shingles. If there is no desire or possibility to sew them with plasterboard, then such walls and ceilings can be plastered. Plaster on shingles is the most acceptable kind of finish for such surfaces.
How is the roof shingled correctly?
Roof shingles should be tilted at least 15 °.The curb should be filled in solid or with a step not more than 10 cm. The roof can be laid in many layers: from two to five. It should be noted that the two-layer coating is suitable only for non-residential buildings.
With a two-layer coating, shingles are laid in such a way that each subsequent board overlaps the previous one by half, with a three-layer coating by two-thirds, with a four-layer coating, by three quarters, and five-layered by four-fifths.
Wooden tiles are laid from the cornice overhangs to the roof ridge. On the roof slopes, shingle should be laid on one layer more than the rest of the roof, because the skates are the most vulnerable place in the roof and are under the most stress.
The gong is fastened with the help of drill nails. To delay the corrosion of nails, before starting work they are recommended to boil in drying oil. According to the traditions of Russian masters, this type of roof does not require waterproofing. Since the building material shingle is absolutely natural, it must breathe, and the waterproofing of this simply does not give, therefore, to extend the life of such a roof, it is not worth using either waterproofing or continuous crateing.
