Garage of metal profiles with their own hands

The most popular and quickly erected garage construction is a garage made of metal, which you can build with your own hands. And, its functionality can be different: like a garage from the corrugated board for temporary parking of a car, for example, in a summer cottage, and a warmed garage with a workshop and a viewing pit.

Garage of metal profiles

Garage from metal profile

Garage from metal profile with inspection pit can be erected in less than a month. To make a recessed inspection pit it is convenient to use ready-made concrete blocks, the foundation around the perimeter is tape. The floor in the garage is more convenient to perform with a concrete screed made of moisture-resistant concrete. The walls consist of a frame, assembled from a metal profile, and a double-sided cladding with profiled metal sheets, between which a heater is laid. As a heater, you can use any modern materials for ventilated facades: mineral and stone wool, polystyrene plates, as well as insulation with polyurethane foam.

Foundation and floors

The garage is made of metal and is easy to build, so it is a shallow basement with a width of 20-30 cm and a height of about 40 cm.

Foundation technology:

  1. Mark the area where the garage will be installed. Completely cut the soil to a depth of about half a meter. Align the pad, fill it with sand and tamp it, spilling water. At the location of the inspection pit, the excavation is excavated, its width must be greater than the width of the inspection pit per meter on each side. The bottom of the excavation is also leveled, covered with sand and rammed.
  2. In a site with a close location of groundwater, drainage should also be done around the inspection pit, and drainage pipes should be taken to a natural body of water, a gutter or a storm water well.
  3. Perform marking of the basement on the perimeter of the garage, as well as marking the walls of the observation pit, using pegs and a cord. Lay the strip foundation from the ready-made concrete blocks, fastening them to the cement-sand mortar. The walls of the inspection pit are also made of concrete blocks or bricks. After hardening of the cement mortar, the walls of the inspection pit are waterproofed from the outside with bitumen mastic or roll materials, and afterwards - backfilling with sand.

  4. The floors of the garage and the inspection pit are made of concrete. To do this, level the ground under the future floor, fill it with sand to a level of 10 cm below the walls of the inspection pit. The floor of the observation pit is also covered with sand. Across the perimeter of the floor, a damper tape is attached to the wall, it is necessary to avoid deformation of the floor with temperature changes in its dimensions. The sand is carefully rammed, a layer of waterproofing is laid on it so that it goes to the walls of the basement to a height of at least 15 cm. As a waterproofing, a roofing material, a strong polyethylene film or any other roll waterproofing can be used.
  5. On the waterproofing lay the reinforcing mesh in steps of 10-15 cm, and then pour concrete screed and level the concrete rule. Modifiers can be added to the concrete to increase its ductility and water resistance, for example, a mixture for penetrating waterproofing, liquid glass or polymer filler. The drying time of the screed is about 3 weeks, at this time it is not recommended to load it.

Construction of the frame and walls of the garage

The frame can be made of a metal U-shaped profile, fastening it with self-tapping screws. For work, you need scissors for metal, screwdriver, tape measure and the estimated number of U-shaped galvanized profile, as well as self-tapping screws for metal.

  1. The U-shaped profile is cut into pieces of the required size. Fold on a flat surface of the frame of one side wall and fasten it. Vertical racks should be placed so that the width of the sheet metal profile accounted for three racks, that is, approximately 50 cm. To check the perpendicularity of the corners, compare the carcass diagonals - they should be equal. Similarly, the second side wall is also collected.
  2. The shape of the rear wall of the carcass depends on the roof of the garage - if the roof is single-pitched, the rear wall will be in the shape of a rectangle, and for a gable roof to a rectangular wall, a gable should be attached from the top.
  3. The front wall consists of two parts: a rectangular frame for the gates and a pediment. The frame supports must be reinforced using two U-shaped profiles inserted one into the other.
  4. The gate frame is also made of a profile in the form of two rectangles of the same size, stiffened diagonally by stiffeners.
  5. The frame is assembled on the finished foundation by installing the walls and fastening them to the self-tapping screws. In addition, fix it to the foundation with the help of corners, screws and dowel-nails.
  6. After cementing the cement mortar, the walls of the inspection pit are waterproofed from the outside with bitumen mastic or roll materials, and afterwards - backfilling with sand.
  7. The roof is also made of profile, collecting from it triangles in the form of a rafter pair. They need to be further strengthened with slopes. The number of rafter pairs is equal to the number of vertical racks on the side walls. Fasten the skeleton of the roof to self-tapping screws.

  8. The walls and roof are made of metal. Begin to fasten it from the front edge to one of the side walls and perform the plating according to the same technology as when building a garage from corrugated board. The gates of the gate are also made of profiled sheet on the finished and installed in place gates.

Insulation and interior finish of garage

Insulate the garage if you plan to use it as a workshop for minor repairs, as well as in areas with severe winters for easy car start-up in winter. As a heater use mineral or stone wool in the form of mats. Mineral mats have high thermal insulation properties, they are conveniently fastened between the profile racks, besides, they do not support combustion, which is important for the garage.

  1. Select the mats of the required thickness, usually 5 or 10 cm. Given the size of the mats, cross rails are attached to the posts.
  2. Heat insulating mats are placed in the spaces between the posts, a vapor barrier film is attached over the thermal insulation.
  3. Finish made of metal profiled sheets, fixing them to self-tapping screws.

With this technology it is possible to build also a light garage from a corrugated board without insulation and a viewing pit, it will cost much less and is quite suitable for temporary parking of a car in a summer cottage or in a summer country house.
