Rollers for painting - what is the choice of the tool?

In the simplest case, the roller for painting walls is a wooden or plastic cylinder with a through hole, on the ends of which there are sleeves in the form of washers( copper or other material). The roller has an axle with a handle. At one end of the axis is made an emphasis, on the second threaded under the nut with a washer, or a detachable cotter pin is installed. The assembly ensures free rotation of the roller around the axis, without jumping off. On the platen is put on and fixed a cover( nozzle) made of fur, foam rubber or other material.

This solution not only significantly improves productivity, but also qualitatively changes the shading of the colors, allows to apply the compounds on any basis. In this case, droplets or sprays do not fall on other surfaces, the layer does not leave a pile( hair), the coating is uniform, without traces of hair.

Significant work relief and time saving when painting large surfaces( walls, ceilings, etc.) is achieved by correctly determining which roller is better for painting walls or other surfaces. For a large area, wide( up to 0.3 m) rollers of larger diameter are used. Of course, when choosing the size of the roller, you need to observe the measure. It is better, if the roller allows to paint the entire surface in one pass, without exposing the worker to significant physical loads.

Which roller is better for painting walls - choose the nozzle

It is best to use rollers for applying paints on alkyd, glue, lime, water-based bases. They give a matte or semi-matt coating. It is more difficult to obtain a glossy surface, since not every coating of the roller is suitable for applying enamels or varnishes on a nitrocellulose base.

Masters advise the roller for oil paint( enamel or varnish) to be used with a fur cap. Here the best option would be tsigeyka( sheared lamb wool) or mohair( goat). No more qualitative synthetic nozzles are considered. The length of the fur is selected in accordance with the quality of the surface.

The more rough it has, the longer the pile should be. On average, this length ranges from five millimeters to one centimeter. In some cases, for the quality coating of coarse surfaces, the length of the hair can be up to twenty centimeters.

In general, what kind of roller paint walls and other surfaces, depends on the type of composition. Thus, foam rubber rollers are the most optimal for compositions on water or glue basis. It is not possible to use foam nozzles for formulations containing solvents. Disintegrating under the action of solvents, foam rubber remains on the surface in the form of hard-to-remove fragments and pieces. Most often this work will require a complete cleaning and re-coating of the entire surface.

Nozzles made of polyamide artificial fur are better suited for aqueous dispersion( emulsion) paints, as well as paints with solvents, because they are more resistant to aggressive effects of the latter. In addition, nozzles based on polyamide material are more resistant to mechanical abrasion, easier to clean. A slightly less resistant to solvent based nozzles based on polyacrylics.

Rollers for texture painting - choose the decorative tool

Interesting effects can be obtained using rollers for decorative painting. They ensure the rolling of the pattern applied to the surface of the nozzle. Working with such a roller requires some skill, but does not differ in complexity. If the strips applied by a normal roller should overlap by three to five centimeters, when working with decorative rolling attachments, to produce a qualitative pattern, the strips should be applied without overlapping the edges. In this case, you must observe the symmetry of the pattern.

In some way a variety of decorative rollers can be called rollers for textured paint. They are made of foam rubber, rubber and other materials. Such nozzles are suitable for creating a different surface texture. It is possible to work on paints, plasters, depending on the nozzle, the surface may have a fine grain structure or a mosaic panel, etc. For paints based on solvents, as already mentioned above, it is better not to use foam nozzles.

Textured paints( usually based on acrylic emulsions), due to their high resistance to external influences, are very popular as decorative protective facade coatings. Their application is made not only from the outside, a roller for textural paint is used to cover all kinds of brick, concrete, wooden and other surfaces. The relief of the pattern depends on the surface of the nozzle.

As a rule, the surface must be prepared in accordance with the recommendations before applying textural paints. In general, this is the removal of old coatings, dust and dirt, sealing of cracks, unevenness, application of a primer layer, etc. In general, the work with rollers makes it possible to obtain a surface with a relief structure, of pleasant decorative quality, concealing small defects.
