Carrying out repairs has several purposes - to renovate the dwelling, change its appearance and create something new. The best way to achieve your goal is to redevelop your home. In this case, it becomes possible not only to aesthetically transform the dwelling, but also to create an additional room. Sometimes this factor is decisive when deciding on re-planning. Increasingly, consumers create internal partitions from foam blocks - the material allows you to quickly and efficiently erect an interior wall with your own hands.

What is a foam block?
The foam block consists of a mixture of concrete and a synthetic or organic blowing agent. When the components are mechanically mixed, the air bubbles are evenly distributed in the solution, and after it has solidified, a strong but relatively light building material is obtained. Partition of foam blocks, the price of which depends on the strength class, in any case, will cost less than the construction of bricks.
Composition of foam concrete:
- cement;
- sand;
- water;
- blowing agent.
Advantages of foam blocks:
- high sound and heat insulation properties;
- ecological compatibility;
- fire resistance;
- large size - the parameters of the foam block allow you to quickly lay out the interior wall and reduce the costs of the binding solution;
- small volumetric weight;
- porous structure of the material - due to this property of the partition of the foam blocks "breathe" and there is no effect of sweating;
- easy to handle - the material is cut with both electric tools and a simple hacksaw, which allows you to create partitions of various shapes and without much effort to build engineering communications;
- simple installation;
- abrasion resistance;
- affordable price.
Faults of the foam block:
- fragility of the material - if it is not transported correctly, it may be damaged;
- the need for waterproofing walls - porous concrete has a high degree of vapor permeability and water absorption;
- restrictions on the loading of partitions - there may be problems when attaching to it massive, heavy objects.
Preparing for operation
Foam units for internal partitions - material selection
When choosing the material for interior walls, the following factors should be noted:
- foam blocks thickness - 10-15 cm;
- material density - for internal partitions, the D600 grade is usually used;
- structure homogeneity;
- form of bubbles - they should be round and small( diameter up to 1 mm);
- no difference in the size of the foam blocks - it happens that the difference reaches several centimeters;
- packing material - it must be covered with a film to protect it from moisture;
- no cracks and damage.
Calculation of the number of foam blocks
To calculate the number of foam blocks, the parameters of the future wall are measured. For example:
- its length is 4 m;
- height - 2,5 m;
- thickness - 0,1 m.
This takes into account the area of window or doorways - in this case it will be 2,0х0,7 = 1,4 m ².The length of the standard partitioning foam block is 0,6 m, the height is 0,3 m. Its area is 0,18 m².
Direct calculation:
- calculates the total area of the wall - 2,5x4 = 10 m²;
- from the received result, the area of the doorway is taken away - 10-1,4 = 8,6 m²;
- the number of foam blocks is calculated: 8,6: 0,18 = 47,8 pcs.
So, for the construction of a partition of 8.6 m² it will take 48-49 foam blocks.
Tools and materials
Two types of mix are used for laying a wall of foam blocks:
1. A classic mortar is a mixture of sand and cement in a ratio of 1/4.The disadvantages of this method of masonry include the thickness of the seam and, as a consequence, the increase in the "cold bridges".To the pluses - low cost of such a solution.
2. Special adhesive - the optimum material for wall masonry. Its advantages:
- thin seams;
- easy cooking;
- excellent adhesion properties;
- smooth, smooth wall surface.
Fixing pins are used for fixing to the wall - steel plates with welded reinforcement. On the floor the partition is fixed with the help of self-tapping screws.
To work with the foam block, the following tools will be needed:
- hacksaw, planer and grater;
- drill with nozzles for kneading mortar and creating holes for sockets;
- rubber hammer;
- level;
- container for mortar or glue;
- trowel or spatula;
- marking tools: laser level, cord, marker or pencil.
Partition of foam blocks with your own hands - mounting
- Surfaces adjacent to the structure to be erected are dust-free and primed.
- With laser leveling, punching cord and marker on the floor, ceiling and walls, the boundaries of the future partition are marked.
- To prevent displacement of the first row of foam blocks, a metal profile is attached to the floor. It is used as a stopper and facilitates the accuracy of laying.
- The self-tapping screws are screwed into the floor. It is possible to lay the first layer on the solution - in this case, the fasteners will not be needed.
- Fixing pins are fastened to bearing walls or pieces of reinforcing bars are blocked. Fasteners must enter the horizontal joints of the masonry every 2-3 rows.
- The first row of foam blocks strictly follows the level. If necessary, the size of the material is reduced with a hacksaw. Since the foam block is sufficiently fragile, the wall should be leveled carefully using a rubber or wooden hammer.
- The laying of the second and subsequent rows of the foam block is carried out "uncontrolled" - vertical joints should not be placed one above the other. Masonry will be denser if the foam blocks are wetted with water.
- In the process of erecting a wall, a doorway is formed. To strengthen the structure in its upper part, the reinforcement is fitted and fixed with spacer wedges. It is installed in the grooves previously cut into the foam blocks.
- After raising the partition, the resulting gap between the masonry and the ceiling is filled with a mounting foam.
- Partition walls from foam blocks in several layers are treated with a primer and then plastered under wallpaper or other finishing materials. Wall tiling is carried out directly on the wall. In this case, it is not required to plaster the septum.
