Repair of wooden doors - the main stages of the work
The door is an integral part of almost any interior. It reflects the preferences and tastes of the owner of the house, demonstrates the level of his income and the degree of accuracy. Of course, scratched, having chipped and lost the old gloss wooden door - not the best decoration of a living room. However, do not make hasty conclusions and carry it to the dump. Look closely, maybe not so scary?
Specialists say that the repair of wooden doors( with rare exceptions) can and should be done - something can be disguised, and something is profitable to beat. However, in this or that case, all work should be carried out in stages. Before starting work, the door must be carefully removed from the hinges! At the first stage, the old protective coating is removed, the function of which is usually performed by the wood varnish.
If the wood is painted, then it will be necessary to apply a little more effort, as the paint could well absorb into it. The coating is removed from the linen and the doorframe to "clean" wood. The second stage is a restoration work - the removal of chips, cracks, scratches. The third stage is the preparation of the product for finishing( coating with varnish or new paint). At the fourth stage, its painting is carried out, and on the fifth stage - the installation of the desired fittings.
Restoration of the door - remove the old cover and mask the defects
If your door is varnished, then you need to remove the usual fine-grained sandpaper. When choosing a material with a high degree of abrasiveness, there is a great risk that you will damage the wood, leaving unattractive and deep scratches on it. If the door is painted, then you can use a construction hair dryer or a special chemical. When using a construction hair dryer, it is necessary to heat the surface of the product so that the paint begins to swell and fall behind. At this point, it is easy to pick up and remove with a spatula.
Please note: When using chemicals, strictly follow the instructions in the recommendation! Otherwise, you can damage the wood. After removing varnish or paint, it is necessary to examine the door for cracks, chips and scratches. The detected minor defects can be masked in several ways.
So, one of them involves the use of a suitable putty on the color, and the second - a special wax. In the first case, it is necessary to carefully approach the choice of putty, as ideally it can so merge with the color of the door leaf that it will be possible to do without finishing - it will be enough to cover the product with varnish. In the second case, the wax is gently rubbed into the cracks until they are completely filled.
In the presence of deep cracks, it is better to use special wax pencils selected for the color of wood.
Restoration of wooden doors - we leave on the finish line
After full drying of wax or putty it is possible to start preparing the surface of the door for painting. To do this, it must be sanded using the same fine-grained sandpaper. For convenience, you can use a drill with special grinding heads or a hand grinder. At this stage, do not rush, because as a result of the work you should get the most smooth surface of the door. After grinding with a damp cloth, clean the product from dust and other contaminants, allow it to dry.
Then you can start painting or applying varnish for doors. Remember that all work should be carried out with the horizontal position of the fabric, which will ensure an even distribution of the paint composition or varnish .If you chose the paint, then apply it in two layers with a break for complete drying of the first layer. All similar actions must be performed with the door frame, if it is suitable for use.
Otherwise, prepare the base of the wall near the doorway to install a new box. The final touch, which provides for the restoration of wooden doors, is the replacement of accessories. Thus, a minimum of spent money, a little time and effort - all this is worth it so that your wooden door again has an attractive appearance.
