Aligning the walls with plasterboard sheets with your own hands photo

Learning to align the walls of GCR with sheets correctly.

When building private houses or overhauling an apartment with your own hands, there is always a problem how to quickly and economically level the walls, the ideal condition of which in the future will depend on the quality of painting or wallpapering of vertical surfaces. And if there are no plaster skills, then it will be economically justified to lined the walls with plasterboard. At the same time, the time is justified in the leveling, an absolutely level surface is created for painting, there is a place for electrical wiring and a heating system inside the wall, design ideas for the implementation of niches, arches and partitions are embodied. If we envisage the use of vapor barrier films, we can safely additionally insulate the rooms in the "eaten" plasterboard space. The last thing is that similar leveling of walls with plasterboard with their own hands, steals several centimeters of living space, is an insignificant minus of this technology. In this manual, as always, photo examples and a video lesson are presented to better understand the material. Recall, we have already told you how to make a ceiling of gypsum board with your own hands with video and photo instruction.

Today there are two main, but radically different technologies( methods) for leveling walls with gypsum boards: the first, usual installation of sheets on a metal or wooden frame fixed along the walls, and, second, pasting sheets directly to the wall with "mites"( special glue). The second method though economical and does not steal centimeters, but is not suitable for too curved and damp walls, and if their height exceeds 3 meters. Therefore, below we will consider in detail the classical method of leveling walls with gypsum boards on a metal frame.

Maximum loads on drywall photo bedroom Before proceeding to the self-assembly of drywall, it should be noted that he does not like rushing and negligent, and if you do not fulfill the elementary requirements of fastening the sheets to the base, then eventually such a wall will begin to "play", and let under the wallpaper of this you can and notto see, then on the painted surface there will necessarily be spider cracks. Also, in advance it is necessary to determine what to hang on the wall, i.e.provide for maximum loads on plasterboard, which technically can not stand the weight of a bookshelf or a huge picture. Therefore, guided by a pre-compiled design project, you should provide additional mortgages from the boards so that they take on the bulk of things hung on the wall. Another point, in rooms where the humidity is excessive( toilet, bath, kitchen), it is desirable to decorate the walls with a special moisture resistant gypsum board, additionally treated with waterproofing material. Let him and it is more expensive, but it will allow to glue on it a tile. Agree, ideally smooth and moisture-resistant surface is very convenient for future tile works.

UD, CD profiles and U-shaped brackets photo So. First, we determine the necessary number of gypsum boards and metal profiles( and we will necessarily need UD and CD profiles, photo left) for leveling the walls of the room. We proceed from the fact that the size of the wall sheet is( height * width * thickness) 2500x1200x12.5 mm;UD-profile is used as starting( length 3 or 4 m) and fixed to the floor and ceiling, and therefore its number is equal to double the perimeter of the room;CD-profile is used to fill the base( length 3 or 4 m) and its consumption rate per one square meter of the wall is about two meters. Also should be purchased: U-shaped brackets( based on 1 piece per 1 m2, photo left), dowel-nails( 2.2 pcs per 1 m2), black metal screws( 13 pcs per 1 m2) and fleas(2.5 pieces per 1 m2).And from tools it is necessary to have: a drill, a screwdriver( preferably a battery), a tape measure, a construction level and a plumb line.

Let's get started. At first we check the wall irregularities with a plumb line, and with the help of a tape measure the length of the walls, in order to take into account all the breaks( usually they are not more than 10 cm), with the help of a skeleton hide them. That is, if one wall at us at measurement has turned out 3,00 m, and opposite - 3,05 m, then the marking starts from the smaller wall - plus the registration of the guide. As a result, you can achieve perfectly right angles. It's easier to check the room with diagonals, which should coincide in length, and as soon as you achieve a coincidence, you can say that the corners in the room are straight. These measurements will help to draw a lower roughing contour of the future framework on the floor. We retreat from the wall by 5 cm and draw the main line parallel to the rough line. Then lower the plumb from the ceiling in such a way that the point of the load coincides with the line of the lower contour - we put a mark on the ceiling;and so on every corner. We connect the points on the ceiling with lines. As a result, we have achieved the ideal verticality of future walls.

Now the plasterboard walls are plastered with their own hands to the next stage, with the perimeter lines on the floor and ceiling marked with dowels securely fix the starting UD-profile. Then, at the corners in the starting profiles, we insert and fix with the help of fleas the guides of the CD-profile, which, in turn, is fixed to the wall by a U-shaped bracket.

Tip: Before fixing the guides, it is advisable to fix the brackets( every 50 cm) on the wall along the vertical line in dowels, which will greatly facilitate the fastening of the CD-profile. Now a brief photo of the instruction, and a video under the article.

Now let's talk in more detail. To ensure that the skeleton is not concave or curved, at least two shoelaces are stretched horizontally from the corners, which will allow you to control the vertical plane. Next, fill the walls with a CD-profile in steps of 60 cm according to the technology, as described above. Usually filling the frame does not cause difficulties, and the result is always pleasing. In a word, after a few hours the frame( base) for fixing gipsokartonnyh sheets is ready.

If you decide to fill the space between the main wall and gypsum plasterboard, then mineral wool is fine for this, the characteristics are excellent,( insulation from the inside is not considered correct, due to the possible condensation on the walls in the winter, because the pointdew falls on the surface of plasterboard), then be sure to use a vapor-proof film that is attached directly to the frame, and above it gipsokartonnye sheets. So also look at the types of soundproof materials to decide which one to choose.

Now you can safely attach to the prepared base drywall. To do this, cut off the necessary length( if the ceiling is less than 2.5 m) of the sheet and fix it with metal screws( length 25 mm) to each CD-profile with a step of not more than 30 cm. The heads of screws should be drowned by one millimeter per sheet.Gypsum boards are cut with an ordinary clerical knife, it is enough just to make a sharp cut along the line - and, with your own effort, the sheet easily breaks.

Gradually fill all the metal base with gypsum board: first, if possible, with solid sheets, so that the joints of gypsum boards are only on the metal profile, and then, cut to size pieces. Tip: if the height of the wall is more than 2.5 m and it is necessary to "sew up" the required length with a piece, then the docking should be in the screed with each subsequent installation of the sheet, which will reduce the likelihood of cracks after puttying. In the area of window and doorways, docking is not allowed: only whole pieces of sheets. Also, do not forget to fix the intermediate CD-profile horizontally in the junction points.

Everything, as a result, should get an ideal horizontal surface, which will only need to be plastered. Well, then, you can either paint it, or wallpaper it with wallpaper. Now watch the video lesson, as it is done by the masters. You need to know how much material you need, the free construction calculator for drywall, you will find out what kind of profile profile, screws and sheets you need.
