Categorizing baby beds

There are several basic models of baby cots. Photos of some of them are given in this article. Let's consider each in more detail:

  • Classical model. It is practical and convenient, suitable for any interior. In such a crib, the front edge can be lowered and raised. When it is omitted, it is convenient for the child to take and place, perform any procedures with him. And when the baby is alone, you can raise the edge to avoid accidentally falling out of bed. When the child reaches the senior age, the crib can be turned into a small sofa, simply taking off the edge completely. Sometimes the classic model is equipped with wheels that can be removed and turned into a cradle, if necessary, due to the special design of the legs. Can serve a child up to three years.

  • Cradle. This model will serve a maximum of six months, becauseAfter reaching this age, the kids begin to sit down and try to rise in bed. In this regard, there is a danger of falling out of the cradle, because it has small edges. Its pluses include a small weight and size, which allows mom to constantly move the baby to where she is doing her own business. Also, the cradles are usually very elegant, and due to their small size, the child inside is comfortable and safe.

  • Bed-manege. This model is multifunctional and very convenient. It has a light weight and easily folds, which makes it possible to easily transport it, for example, to a dacha or guests. Serving such a bed can be quite long due to the fact that its bottom can be fixed at different levels. When the child is still small, the bottom can be fixed higher, so that it is convenient to take it, and when he grows up and starts to get up on his feet, you can lower the bottom lower. In such a crib, a child can not only relax, but also play as in a conventional arena. Its design is somewhat similar to the classical one.

  • Bed-transformer. It is a whole multifunctional complex, which includes a bed, changing table and bedside table. Often there is a laundry box between the floor and the bottom of the bed. This model is very good for small rooms, becauseallows you to save space. Some transformers are designed in such a way that they can turn from a baby crib into a teenage crib and, thus, extend the service life to 10-12 years.

This article will show you how to make baby cribs with your own hands. For newborns, we decided to choose a classic model, becauseit can be suitable for most interiors, and at the same time very simply arranged. The technology of its manufacture can be mastered by anyone. From what materials is it better to make a crib for a newborn with your own hands?

On this question there is only one acceptable answer - from natural! Furniture for the child, and in general all the things with which it contacts, should be environmentally friendly, do not allocate harmful substances. Sometimes, during the teething, the baby gnaws the handrails and crossbeams of the bed, and if they are made of some toxic plastic, then it can easily get poisoned. For the same reasons, it is not necessary to cover the details of the bed with paint, varnish, various impregnations.

As material, you can choose different types of wood. The quality of the future product will depend on the chosen variety.

Very often cots made of pine and aspen. They are inexpensive and therefore very popular. But, making a choice in favor of these materials you need to understand that they are very soft and the product can quickly appear scratches.

More rigid, but also more expensive, are beech and birch. A cot of their wood will last a long time and will preserve the beauty of appearance and rich texture. Also, they almost do not lend themselves to mechanical damage, which is a very useful quality primarily for children's furniture.

Cradle Safety Requirements

Even if you chose environmentally friendly materials for the crib and abandoned the idea of painting it, the product may still be a threat if the safety precautions are not followed:

  • , all fasteners must go deep into the tree. If they bulge, the child may get injured;

  • the structural parts themselves must fit tightly together, there should not be any crevices or gaps between them;

  • design of the crib for the newborn should not include any small and loose objects that can be torn off and swallowed;

  • cot should be stable, with all legs touching the floor. A toddler should not be able to independently swing it;

  • the sides should be high enough to exclude the possibility of a child falling out on the legs;

  • the distance between the perches and the slats should not exceed 6 cm. Otherwise, the child may thrust the head between them and be injured;

  • the bars, perches and other parts of the structure must be perfectly polished. The presence of roughness and especially splinters is unacceptable;

  • crib should not have sharp edges, corners and creative cuts, hitting about which the baby could get injured or bruised;

  • , the lowering edge in the lower position should be at least 10 cm above the mattress, so that, turning over in a dream, the child does not fall out.

How to make a cot

If you want to make a complex model of the crib for the newborn, the drawings will be necessary, but in our case, you can do without them, too.this model is the simplest.

First of all, you need to purchase a mattress, because it is from its size that we will start off by making a crib. The choice must be approached extremely responsibly, because its quality will affect the bearing of the baby, the development of his musculoskeletal system, rest and recovery, etc. In our case, this is an orthopedic mattress with a filling made of coconut fiber, measuring 120x60 cm.

Next, we determine what the bed will be along the length and width, starting from the size of the mattress. The height of the sides, if you count from the floor, will be equal to 90 cm. We will make the backs higher - 110 cm from the floor.

The bed itself should be located at such a height from the floor, at which the baby 2-3 years old can climb it without hindrance. Usually this is 30-34 cm.

The distance between vertical bars in the sides and backs of the bed should be 11-12 cm, not more.

Manufacturing of structural components:

  • , the binding of the sides and backs is made of boards that are processed with the help of woodworking equipment. The width is 7 cm, the thickness is 3.5 cm;

  • to make a lounger, on which the mattress will be subsequently placed, we take six bars with a cross-section of 5x3 cm. To make the binding of the frame by a single deaf thorn, in the long bars we make holes of 2.5 cm in depth. To speed up the process and avoid errors, immediately put notes on the same details. If there is no slotting machine, then the nests can be drilled and then modified using a chisel or a hand-held milling machine.

  • the length of the cross bars can be calculated by a simple formula: from 60 cm we take two widths of the bars and add two depths to the resulting number;

  • from both edges of beams with shoulder-darkening we make thorns, using a through thorn for the ligament. The spikes can be cut by means of a circular saw with a height-adjustable entrance. We determine the output of the saw, starting from the parameters of the socket. It is necessary, that from both edges of a bar there was a thorn, on thickness coinciding with the size of a nest. We do the same on identical parts and remove the limiter. Excess wood is cut with a saw. Using the rasp, we finally adjust the spike to the size of the nest;

  • we glue the details of the lounger on the vime while strictly observing that the corners are straight;

  • to make the frame of the cot back, you need to calculate its width using the following formula: add two thicknesses of the side walls to 60 cm and then another 2 cm. Assemble the backrest frame by 2.5 cm spike;

  • formula for calculating the length of the bars looks like this: from the width of the back we take two widths of the foot of the bed and add two lengths of the stud. The lower diameter should be positioned so that it covers the bed frame located in the lower position;

  • in order to manufacture the rods for the bed, we take the slats having a section of 2x2 cm. We attach them to the crosses of the backs and sides with a single dead thorn. Drill holes in cross-bars with a depth of 2 cm by drilling with a 16 mm drill. The gap between them should be 10 cm;

  • when the frame of the backrest is assembled, calculate the length of the rods, we add to it the double length of the stud. Spikes are done in the same way as described above. Before all the components of the crib are gathered together, it is necessary to carefully polish them and round the rasp with all sharp corners and edges;

  • further glue on the vime all the details of the back, while carefully following the rectangle;

  • now needs to manufacture the sides of the bed. Their sizes vary. The lower transverse crossbeams of the backs should dock with the lower cross beams of the sides. The tailgate is equal to the length of the lounger plus 1 cm. The height of the side is 90 cm, minus the height of the lower transverse laths of the back;

  • to get on the front edge of the strip to be removed, it is necessary that the length of its perches is 15 cm shorter than the length of the perches of the second border;

  • spikes on them on the same principle as on the back. All parts are polished, the corners are rounded;

  • we glue the edge on the vane, making sure that the components are strictly perpendicular to each other;

  • front board has the same length as the rear, and the width is 7 cm. Removable strap along the length should be equal to the side of the bed, and the width - 5 cm. The depth of the grooves at its ends should be 1-1.5 cm;

  • in the next step, we put together the backs and sides of the product using self-tapping screws 8-10 cm. We lay the lounger through 2-3 mm gaskets, observing the symmetry with the middle line of the back, mark the points of contact of the backs and sides. After the marking is done, we remove the gaskets( they were needed to ensure the loungers free movement within the general framework).Focusing on the specified marking, we drill through the five-millimeter holes, two pieces at each point of contact;

  • at the same level as the edge of the far side we have a detachable bar, mark the points of contact with the backrest and fix the locks. Rubber fix the bar on the outer board, for this we drill through holes in its upper diameter and in the bar. Further, with a thicker bit, widen the holes for the secret fastening of the rubber( the diameter should correspond to the plastic plugs);

  • on completion of work, we cover with a plywood 0,3-0,4 cm sleeper and attach it with small nails.
