The only, but very important, nuance that you must take into account - before measurements it is necessary to check the insulation of the probes. If it is damaged, do not use such a multimeter, otherwise it is possible that you will be shocked. Also, be careful when choosing the tester mode. If you accidentally choose to measure resistance, the tester may fail!

Method # 2 - Indicator to help the
If you do not have a multimeter in your home that must necessarily be part of the electrician's tools, you can use a probe, which is also called an indicator screwdriver. In this case, you will be able to check if there is a voltage in the socket without a tester, but you will not be able to find out what its value is.

To measure the voltage, you need to touch your finger with a finger to the chevron on the probe( as shown in the photo), after which the stinger should be alternately inserted into one and the other hole. If the light in the handle caught fire, then there is electricity in the network, and you stumbled upon the phase.

Method number 3 - Modern tracking
Well, the last, most convenient and effective option that allows you to check the voltage in the socket - use a special monitoring relay. This type of automation is a kind of device to protect against overvoltage in the network. Having installed it at home, you can not only measure the desired parameter, but also protect the individual electrical appliance from jumps in the network. 
The drawback of the latter method is that it is not advisable to buy a separate relay for each outlet. Therefore, we recommend that this protection and control option be put on the most valuable electrical appliances, for example, an electric stove or a refrigerator.
