Drywall is a relatively new building material that appeared at the end of the XIX century. Due to the ease of use, wide range of different sizes and types, this material is widely used in construction. GKL sheet produced by various manufacturers, despite its different brands and brands, it is easily recognizable: it is a sheet of gypsum board of various sizes, glued on the outside with cardboard. The composition of gypsum plasterboard is extremely simple: building plaster - 93%, standard cardboard - 6%, various modifying additives - 1%.

Types drywall

purpose There are several types of manufactured gypsum board, differing in their basic physical parameters.

  • GKL .The most common manufacturers produce a regular drywall, used for rooms with the standard requirements for humidity and temperature conditions that are presented to consumers. It is easy to distinguish by the coloring of the top layer of cardboard: this plasterboard is painted in gray, all marking inscriptions on the surface of the sheet are made in blue.
  • GKLV .For rooms with high humidity indices, they produce hypocarbon plates, covered with green cardboard with moisture-resistant additives and blue marking.
  • GKLO .In rooms with temperature values above the norm, fireproof plasterboard is used, produced by the factories. It is covered with gray or red cardboard, and all technological inscriptions on its surface are made with red paint.
  • GKLVO .For premises with overestimated requirements for fire resistance, humidity( for example, for saunas), manufacturers make fireproof and moisture resistant GKL green with red markings.

GKL sheet size

To meet all the demands of the builders, the factories produce a whole gamut of sizes of all kinds of drywall. The thickness of the GKL sheets can vary over a wide range:

  • for the production of arched constructions is produced by GLC with a thickness of 6.5 mm;
  • for the installation of ceilings, various boxes are recommended sheets with thicknesses of 8;9.5 mm;
  • for different wall constructions, sheets with a thickness of 12.5;14;16;18;20;24 mm.

Sheet edge characteristics of GKL

The most popular and widely used options for GCR sheet thicknesses are 6.5;9.5;12.5 mm. In addition, the edges of the edges differ in the sheets produced by industry, which is important in the arrangement of joints between sheets. Edges can be straight, rounded, refined on one side, semicircular or semicircular and refined on the front surface, cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

Dimension and weight parameters

Manufacturers offer consumers different sizes for the width and length of GCR sheets. Typically, the width of a gypsum board is 600 or 1200 mm, and its length can vary from 2000 to 4000 mm( 50% step-by-step).

The weight of GCR sheets can vary considerably: it depends directly on the thickness and type of sheet. The weight parameters of gypsum plasterboard are calculated by the formula: the weight of 1 m2 is KxS( K - the indicator for ordinary and moisture-resistant drywall is no more than 1 kg for each mm of thickness, for fire-resistant and moisture-resistant it is from 0.8 to 1.06; S -thickness in mm).

Technical characteristics of drywall

GOST 6266-97 normalizes the following properties of GKL:

  • durability of drywall sheets for destructive loading: the ultimate strength index for a sheet is 12.5 mm - 322 N in longitudinal;105 N in transverse directions;
  • allowable deviations from the geometric dimensions and the number of possible defects, according to which, drywall belongs to class A or B;
  • deflection GCR should be no more than 0.8-1.0 mm.

All types of plasterboard sheets are:

  • to G1 flammability group( according to GOST 30244);
  • to the flammability group B3( according to GOST 30402);
  • to the smoke-forming ability group D1( according to GOST 12.1.044);
  • to toxicity group T1( according to GOST 12.1.044).

Advantages of

The wide range of produced types and types of material allowed it to take a leading position in the construction market. Using an entire range of products( wooden blocks, galvanized profiles, various types of fillers and adhesives, reinforcing nets and screws, dowels) together with various sheets of gypsum board, you can perform an impressive amount of finishing work, arrange false ceilings, false walls, partitions of any complexity, embody the most creativedesign solutions.

Due to its environmental friendliness, a large number of different sizes and types, ease of use, gypsum boards have confidently occupied their niche in a number of finishing materials.

Disadvantages of

In this case, having a large number of advantages, drywall has certain disadvantages that limit its use. In particular, it is not sufficiently resistant to point loading, therefore it is not used as load-bearing structures. In addition, it is contraindicated to constantly contact with water or open fire. Also, in the case of deformation or damage to gypsum board, its repair is problematic, which, however, is compensated by the ease of replacing damaged sheets.

Anyway, gypsum cardboard is one of the few modern materials, when studying a photo, video editing of which, as well as reviews, allows even a beginner to arrange a simple partition or align the wall.
