If the thickness of the sheet is from 9mm to 12.5mm, then the drywall sheets can be bent dry. The radius of curvature is from 1 m to 2.75 m. The sheet is preliminarily cut to size. Also in advance it is necessary to assemble the frame to which the drywall will be attached. It should be remembered that dry way to bend drywall can only be done along the sheet. If you bend across, the sheet will break. One edge of the sheet needs to be fixed on the frame, and a small load is hung on the other edge or an effort is applied. Gradually, the load must be increased until the sheet takes the necessary shape. After that, the sheet is fixed on the frame with self-tapping screws, and the load is removed. A more simple and reliable way to bend a sheet of drywall is a wet method. To begin with, the sheet or a previously cut-in-size element must be rolled with a needle roller on one side. If there is no roller, you can make a puncture with an awl, but it will take a very long time. After that, the surface should be moistened with water. To do this, you can use a roller, brush or sponge. The surface is wetted with water at room temperature for 10 minutes, until it becomes like a mirror. When wet gypsum cardboard becomes very flexible, and after drying, its strength properties are returned to it. A well-water-saturated sheet is laid on a frame template. Then slowly bend yourself or give a bend under your own weight. After that, the edges are fixed with clamps and allow to dry for 24 hours. After completely drying, the sheet of cardboard leaves in a curved state and can be removed from the frame. From the sheet, you can cut out the necessary elements or use it entirely in curved structures.
There is another way how to bend drywall to create curvilinear, curly structures from gypsum board. To do this, it is necessary to make incisions with a sharp knife on the sheet on one side. The cuttings are made perpendicular to the bending line. The frequency of the incisions depends on the radius of the bend - the smaller the radius, the smaller the step size of the incisions. For the construction of columns and chimneys, cuts on the sheet should be made on the outside, and for the construction of arches - on the inside. With this method, the bend turns out to be a stepped, rather than a smooth one. For smooth lines it is necessary to use a milling machine. You can cut them n-shaped or v-shaped notches. From the hollows, the entire gypsum is selected to the sheet of cardboard. The pitch of the notches is selected on the same principle as when cutting a drywall with a knife.
