Types of used paints
Oil
They win, basically, only in price. Although there are a number of advantages. Paints on the basis of drying oil deeply penetrate into the structure of the material, are resistant to changes in external atmospheric conditions.
Differ and the specifics of the application. The fact that the drying time of oil paints( depending on the temperature in the street) is several hours. And if you consider that in the air always contains particles of dust, you need to "guess" more and windless weather. Otherwise, how often this happens, some places will have to be tinted.
Acrylate
These have all the necessary qualities that are needed for wood.
- Firstly, they do not create a sealed layer, so after their application, the log or board continues to "breathe".
- Secondly, even the frozen paint has some elasticity. Therefore, as the "wood" deforms, a layer of such a paint coating will not crack.
- Thirdly, they retain their appearance over the years 7 - 8, and this is precisely the approximate period when any structure is being repaired.
Antiseptic coating
Such formulations have alkyd-acrylate base. In the paint and varnish market - a relatively new type of similar products. With their help, you can give a respectable look to even low-grade wood, which makes it possible to use cheaper materials in construction. Such compounds "hold" for more than 10 years.
It should be understood that any paint will completely hide the texture of the wood. Staining is usually done if the house is finished with a simple smooth-planed board. But if the walls are built of expensive material( log calibrated, glued beam and the like), then the paint does not make sense. Otherwise, the money spent on the material( wood) will be literally "thrown into the wind."
For such blanks, it is advisable to use colorless varnishes, azure. The surface will become glossy, which will only add to the attractiveness of the house. The use of varnishes of color will not affect the pattern of the tree in any way, but it will somewhat change the shade of the surface.

- At primary painting of the new house the choice of a paint and varnish means - at the discretion of the owner. But if the staining is repeated, it is recommended to use the same composition as used previously. That is, apply "oil" to oil, acrylic on acrylic. Masters say that the latter can be stacked and over oil with pre-treatment of the surface.
- To determine the appearance of the old paintwork, it is enough to make a small cut. If the "sample" breaks easily, then it was oil paint. The acrylate layer easily slides into a "roll".
- Do not paint wood surfaces if they are exposed to sunlight. This will lead to uneven drying of individual areas, and as a result - "divorce" on the wall.
- When choosing a paint and varnish of a little-known manufacturer, it is worth asking, from which year is this type of paint produced? Somewhat strange, when new-fashioned products are guaranteed 15 years of "service", although its release is established only 2 - 3 years ago. Therefore, practice is not confirmed.
- Do not forget that no paint will increase the life of the wood, if it has not been pretreated with antiseptics and flame retardants, and the surface has not been primed.
