The first thing you need to do is check the electrical cord, maybe in summer storage it was interrupted somewhere. Did not help? We take a screwdriver and a multimeter, after which we proceed to the independent repair of the fan heater. Most likely the cause of the malfunction is the fuse block, one of which was triggered by overheating.
With the example of household heater Scarlett SC158 we will consider in the form of step by step instructions how to fix the fan heater yourself:
- First we unscrew the screws on the back cover, they are usually 6 pieces, as shown in the photo.
- Then we call the main elements of the chain with the multimeter: thermal fuses, thermostat, thermal switch. The first fuse can be seen immediately, without removing the blade. To find the second, which is located on the engine, you have to remove the fan. Independently, you call the chain with a multimeter and if the reason for this is really a failure, buy the exact same item in the store and replace it( no more than 30 rubles).
- If the thermal fuses are working, check the Polaris heater control unit. It can be found by the scheme, which is provided in the instructions to the device.

Turns on but does not heat up
The second popular fan heater failure is blowing but does not heat the air. In this case, the cause of the malfunction is most likely a heating element - a spiral or a ceramic heating element. Here everything is simple - check the resistance in a circuit with a multimeter and if there is a break somewhere, it is necessary to replace the heating element with a new one. Sometimes it happens that the heater has stopped heating, becauseone of the sections of the spiral is damaged. In this case, you can try to repair the fan heater yourself, connecting the nichrome spiral. 
Also not a rare case, when the cause of the breakdown is the same fuse. If the fan heater does not heat, check the fuses using the technology provided above. 
In addition, often a bimetallic thermostat( shown in the photo with a red arrow) breaks down. For repair, you only need to clean up its contacts to a metallic color and warm yourself with a soldering iron. The thermostat should behave as follows: when the contacts are heated, the contacts must open the circuit, and then close again when cooling down. If the device does not work correctly, try manually closing the temperature regulator and connecting the heater to the mains. If it is a worker, the helix must be heated. 
Blades do not spin
If the fan heater works, but the fan does not turn, most likely the cause of the malfunction is that the motor has stopped working. What to do in this case? Another variant of the breakdown is the severe dust pollution, as a result of which the fan does not turn or turn off frequently. Try to repair the motor with your own hands, wiping it with a cloth and dripping some engine oil between the moving and stationary part. Did not help? We change the electric motor, which broke, to a new one, with the same characteristics. 
Badly works
Well, the last malfunction - the fan heater does not heat the air badly. In this case, the cause of the failure is the contamination of spare parts. Most likely, the heater is all in the dust, as a result of which the heating is weak, for example, at the second speed, as at the first. For such a simple repair, turn off the power and use a dry cloth or vacuum to walk through all the elements of the circuit, do not damage anything. Did, but did not help? Check the electrical plug, it is probably to blame. Turn on the heater for a few minutes, then remove the plug from the socket and feel the electrodes. If one of them is noticeably warmer than the second one, the electric plug is broken, as a result of which the domestic heater weakly emits heat.
