Why do I need maintenance?
Both gasoline and diesel generators need to be inspected in a timely manner for the simple reason that only an analysis of the plant's operation at the right time will allow to reveal deviations in the functioning. Simply put, if a breakdown is identified at the initial stage, it will be easier to fix it, but if you postpone the service - everything can end in complete failure.

Planned maintenance seems like a waste of money, because the installation and so it works flawlessly, but its absence can turn out to be a significant expense. A defective device will begin to consume more and more fuel, generating an insufficient amount of energy. As a result, savings on the survey will result in not so noticeable, but at the same time very significant expenditure.

If the generator is used daily, an external scheduled inspection is mandatory. This way it will be possible to detect error messages on external monitors in a timely manner, damage or deterioration of working units, aggregates, even a slight leakage of technical fluid, monitor fuel level, availability of lubrication and cooling, and condition of fasteners. All this can be done independently. 
Scheduled maintenance of the diesel generator
This stage of monitoring the condition of the unit is determined by the manufacturer and is indicated in the documentation. In cases with different devices, the step of the scheduled inspection can vary from a week to two years, and even more. However, it is worthwhile to understand that the manufacturer indicates a recommendation based on the average usage schedule, and if the frequency of the startup of the DGU significantly differs more or less, the scheduled maintenance schedule should be adjusted depending on individual requirements.
The list of works produced during planned maintenance includes not only monitoring of the condition, replacement of old elements, minor repairs and cleaning and lubrication procedures, but also testing, adjustment and adjustment of work processes. Manufacturers also regulate the step of the test, but regardless of the frequency of work and load, the procedure should be performed at least once a month( load 30%, run time 30 minutes or idle 5-10 min), if the instructions to the DGU are not specifiedother test parameters.

The operating time obliges to perform maintenance. Despite the schedule of the maintenance of the DGU, it is necessary to show the state of the device after active operation on time. If you wait for a fixed period without stopping work, you can aggravate the situation radically.
In this case:
- oil change, condensate removal, flushing of the cooling system;
- replacement of used consumables( filters, etc);
- adjustment, adjustment of the operation of the valves, speed, voltage, belt tension of the drive, control panel;
- calibration of the DGU supports;
- check of a level of ventilation of a crankcase, tightness of system of giving of greasing;
- tightness of the engine cooling system;
- testing and cleaning of air outlets, valves, compressor;
- check of hermeticity and cleanliness of system of giving of fuel;
- control system check, the adequacy of the reaction of electronic components.
In this case, each separate maintenance of the diesel generator differs in the composition of works from the previous one due to the appearance of new hazards of wear, etc.

To show in general terms how to maintain the plant and how often it should be done, the schedule of technical inspection of the diesel generator will help. Of course, it is necessary to compose it individually for each individual model in every single condition. An inexpensive and not too reliable generator will have to be brought to the diagnostics after a few hundred hours of active work, while models from recognized manufacturers need less control.
In most cases, the first maintenance( TO-1) should be done every 50 m / h: preventive maintenance, oil filter and oil change.
The second( TO-2) is required for every 250 m / h: in addition to the above, replace the fuel filter.
As for the individual schedule: it is better not to risk and perform inspection and prevention as often as the manufacturer recommends.
