How to choose and use a jigsaw for metal?

Differences of tools

The main difference between a jigsaw for metal is its separation into household and professional tools. Household tools have low power and are used for simple domestic work. Professional, on the contrary, have a lot of power and are aimed at long and difficult work. They differ among themselves in the following parameters:

  • Power. This is the main parameter that divides jig saws into views. For cutting a thin metal, up to 0.5 millimeters, a household tool is quite suitable for you, a professional is needed for cutting 10 millimeters;
  • Duration of operation. Household tools need rest as they heat up, while professional tools can work 24 hours a day without stopping;
  • Functions. For simple cutting the most common tool is quite enough, but if the tasks are more difficult, then additional functions are needed, for example, for cutting a thick metal you need the ability to choose a low number of revolutions.

Note! Before buying, you need to know exactly which jobs will be performed. If it is exceptionally sharp for metal, then you need to take a special tool, if cutting the metal will be done periodically, you can buy a simple jigsaw with lower speeds.

The ideal hand-held jigsaw for metal that will successfully fulfill all the requirements must have the following characteristics: its weight should not be too large, the feed rod must be cylindrical, the presence of a floating stroke is mandatory, and the backlight will not be superfluous. Also, for convenience and safety, the jigsaw must be equipped with a sawdust blowing system. The power of such an instrument is less than 600 watts.

Correct sawing - high-quality work

For effective cutting of one tool is not enough, it is necessary to choose the right saw. For example, saw blades for a jig saw have very small teeth. You can use them to work with metal thickness of up to 0.6 millimeters. Each saw has its own marking. So, the standard cutter for metal is designated Т118А, so that, seeing such marking, it is possible to buy a saw for working with material up to 0.5 millimeters thick.

Important! Sawing the metal causes a very strong grinding, so you need to work in protective headphones.

In addition to the standard metal cutter, there are other types of saws for different materials. For example, the saw for aluminum has teeth of a larger size, which allows them not to clog during operation. This is due to the fact that aluminum - the material is soft, which produces a quick hammering of the teeth of a simple hacksaw for metal. Also, such a cloth can be used for cutting plastic. Many masters do just that.

Jigsaw for metal - rules of operation

Determining which jigsaw is needed, and what kind of file is suitable for it, it is necessary to understand how to saw the material. Metal cutting with a jigsaw has its own specific requirements and is somewhat different from cutting plywood. The first thing to remember about, you do not need to press the jigsaw, otherwise the canvas will overheat and burst. If you need to make a long cut, then it is better to use a wide blade, and for bends - a thin one. The linen needs frequent replacement, as it is quickly dull, and a blunt file will tear and not cut material.

When cutting Plexiglas and non-ferrous metals, the cloth must be moistened with water beforehand. Also, liquid petroleum oil can be used to facilitate the process. If the metal thickness does not exceed one millimeter, then a layer of plywood must be placed under it. The work should be conducted with little impact, so that the vibrations are minimal. The material must be secured securely.

Important! Before you start, you should study the instructions of the instrument, and after the end - to disassemble, clean and lubricate it.
