The function of the thermostat in heated floor systems is to turn heating circuits on and off and adjust the degree of heating. The use of thermostats allows you to save considerably on your calculations for heating, to avoid unnecessary costs, including the system only when you need it.
Basic information
Heated floors can be of different design. Heat can be transferred to the heat transfer medium( hot water or antifreeze), and also extracted directly from the system elements by means of an electric current, by means of a heating cable or an infrared film. In any case, the degree of heating of the circuits is controlled by means of a temperature regulator.
The temperature regulator of the heated floor can be mechanical or electronic. In the first case, the degree of heating is adjusted manually, by turning the rheostat control knob. In the second, an electronic relay is responsible for the adjustment. In electronic temperature controllers, there may also be programming nodes that enable or disable the heating circuits at a predetermined time.

The thermostat in the systems of electric heated floors is usually connected to the power wiring of the room. It is recommended to use a separate circuit breaker for its connection.
In cases where heated floor systems are installed in rooms with high humidity - the thermostat can be moved to another room.
In addition, a separate type of thermostats for heated floors are devices controlled by the radio channel. In this case, the thermostat and its remote control unit can be located in different rooms.

Installation of the thermostat
Consider the installation of a built-in thermostat for a heated electric floor with a heating element - an electric cable.
Please note that there are two cables in the delivery package of the warm floor. One of them is the actual heating cable, and the other is for connecting the heating cable to the thermostat of the heated floor.
The temperature controller is supplied with a temperature sensor, which looks like a wire with a sensitive element on the end.

Here is the junction box located on the back side of the thermostat:
heated floor system with an electric cable can be equipped with two-core and single-core cable. Depending on the number of cores on the terminal box of the thermostat, the terminal-connectors are located.
thermostat In any case, the terminal box will have connectors for the temperature sensor, for the heating cable itself and for connecting the mains voltage from the mains.
Note the marking of the wiring harness. The terminals are marked "L" - the corresponding phase and the designation "N" denoting zero.
So, the heated electric floor is already laid out and the red heating cable is connected to the connecting black cable.
Connecting wires are connected to the wall in the wall and led out for the thermostat:

The choice of the
thermostat The most important point in the choice of the thermostat is the matching of its power and the power of your heated electrical floor. As a rule, household electric floor lighting systems have a power of about three kilowatts
Connecting several
thermostats You may have to connect several temperature regulators ifyou want to split the room into areas where different temperature conditions are to be maintained. Also you will have to buy and install several thermostats if the total power of the stacked heated electric floor will exceed the capabilities of one thermostat.
Temperature thermostat for a floor with a heat-transfer fluid
In some cases, when installing heated floors with a heat-transfer fluid, no temperature control system is installed. Heating circuits are simply connected to the system of main or individual heating through the collector. On some collector models there are adjusting screws that can perform the
thermostat function. The temperature regulators for the heated floor with the heat transfer fluid act indirectly. Based on the results of temperature measurement, they give the command to the servo drive, which limits or increases the flow of the coolant. As a consequence, the electric heated floor regulates the command of the thermostat almost instantaneously, and on a system with a liquid coolant - with a noticeable delay, when the heating medium reaches and warms the heating pipelines.
Types of temperature controllers in liquid coolant systems
The simplest kind of temperature controllers for heated floors with liquid heat transfer medium are mechanical, which simply limit the flow of water in the heating circuits. Similar devices are usually installed on conventional modern radiators. The user sets the desired flow( and hence the temperature) manually by turning the head. They are simple and cheap, do not require constant maintenance and have a long service life.
In an electronic thermostat for systems with a heat-transfer fluid there is an electronic unit that is connected to a temperature sensor. The sensors can measure both the temperature inside the room and the temperature of the coolant directly. They can also have programming functions and can be turned on and off in periods of time and at the temperature set by the user.
For transmitting a signal from the thermostat to the servo drive, both wired and wireless communication channels can be used.
You can choose a particular type of thermoregulating device depending on your needs, the design of the heated floor and your budget.
