Polymer putty - the first acquaintance of
The ultimate goal of any repair is the finish of the room. Sealing walls with wallpaper or painting them usually brings a festive mood. The room right before your eyes begins to take a complete look, and so you want to install furniture as soon as possible and begin to settle and decorate it. But no matter how you want to speed up all repair and construction work, neglect or ignore some stages of finishing should not be.
The walls in your house may seem at first sight quite smooth, so that some finishing work simply omit, but it is not. Always on the surface of the walls and ceiling there are the slightest protuberances, cracks, seams and hollows that will not allow to achieve an ideal final result. To smooth the surface, as well as to seal joints and cracks, various fillings are used during the repair work.
The binding component is the decisive factor in the choice of putty. Depending on this component, the fillers are divided into cement, gypsum and polymer. Gypsum and cement putties have been presented on the market of building materials for quite a long time, their properties and characteristics are quite well known.
Polymer filler - is a relatively new building material widely represented by acrylic and latex fillers .Acrylic putty is used both for interior and for facade repair and construction works. A distinctive feature of this type is its versatility, as well as ease of operation. It is used both for roughing, leveling, and for finishing. Latex putties are usually used for internal repair work. These putties are odorless, characterized by high plasticity, durability and strength.
Polymer filler - scope of use
When choosing a putty, it is necessary to carefully read the scope of its application. Putties are: leveling, special, finish and universal. The first, as is clear from the name, serve for roughing the surface, its alignment. Specialists are used for a clearly limited range of purposes, for which they have special components in their composition.
The polymer finish putty is applied to the roughing layer in order to incorporate microcracks, as well as to obtain an ideal finishing surface. Universal fillers are suitable for both leveling and finishing of the prepared surface.
The use of this kind of putty when performing repair work always gives a high result. This putty is used on cement, plaster, concrete, gypsum surfaces, and also as a putty for polyurethane. This material is very plastic and easy to use, which allows you to reduce consumption, as well as labor.
Thanks to the use of this material, the prepared surface becomes perfectly even and smooth. This putty does not crack and does not shrink, it quickly seizes. Its distinctive feature is the storage time in a finished form, in a closed container it can be stored up to 12 hours.
As a rule, this kind of material is used for finishing the ceilings and walls. Its only drawback is price.
How to work with polymer filler?
Apply the polymer putty on a pre-prepared substrate. All dirt, dust, old plaster, grease stains should be removed. Surface under the finish must be covered with a mineral primer.
Dry mixture of polymer putty should be poured into a container of water and carefully stirred by hand or an electric drill with a nozzle "mixer".After this, this material is left for 10 minutes, then mixed again.
Polymer putty is applied to the surface with a trowel or spatula with a layer not exceeding 3 mm. The technology is as follows: a small trowel takes part of the putty solution and is applied to the wide edge of the spatula, after which the spatula is applied to the leveling surface at an acute angle, and the entire putty is spread thinly on the base.
Approximately 4 hours after the material has dried, it is necessary to level the surface by treating it with a construction float or sandpaper. Movement on the surface should be without pressure, circular. If one layer is not sufficient to give the surface an ideal smoothness, a second layer of filler can be applied, but not earlier than 4 hours after the first layer has dried.
