Non-ferrous metals and welding
For physical properties and purpose, the colorant is divided into:
- light( magnesium, aluminum, titanium);
- heavy( tin, nickel, lead);
- noble( gold, silver, platinum);
- scattered;
- refractory;
- rare earth;
- radioactive.
Gas-flame treatment of non-ferrous metals is a technological process that involves the exposure of a high-temperature gas flame to an article. In other words, it is welding and cutting. Often in the household there is a need for welding products.
Gas Welding of non-ferrous metals has its own characteristics that are worth considering. For example, copper is highly oxidized, the oxide formed reduces the strength and quality of the weld. When working with copper, mandatory use of fluxes is required, which transform the formed oxides into low-melting slags.
In the industry, a completely different technology for welding non-ferrous metals is microplasma welding. This technology is used for welding thin sheet metal with a thickness of less than 1 mm. It is used in many industries, and in the coming decades the alternative to this technology is unlikely to be invented.
Electrodes for welding non-ferrous metals have many varieties. For example, electrodes for welding aluminum and its alloys, for welding technical grade aluminum, for welding bronze and heat-resistant alloys, for welding and surfacing of copper, nickel alloys, and many others.
Cutting of non-ferrous metals - quickly or qualitatively?
Cutting of non-ferrous metals is carried out in several basic ways, depending on the type of metal and the quality of the cut. The first class of accuracy includes mechanical, laser, waterjet cutting, to the second - gas and plasma cutting. Ideal edges of the cut and high accuracy can provide mechanical cutting methods: milling, drilling, countersinking, grinding, turning and others.
But the most advanced way is laser cutting of non-ferrous metal. Under the action of the energy of the laser beam, an opening is formed on the surface of the sheet, and the molten metal is blown out by a high-pressure gas mixture. This method of cutting is distinguished by the absence of deformation and the possibility of creating a profile of high complexity.
This method can be used for rolling with a thickness of not more than 20 mm. If for the customer the main thing is economy of means, and he does not make high requirements to accuracy and tolerances of manufacturing of details, then an ideal option is gas cutting.
Soldering non-ferrous metals - creating quality seams
Another important technological process is the soldering of non-ferrous metals .The creation of permanent joints is made by heating the fusible metal( solder) before it melts, and it fills the gap between the elements to be joined.
The types of soldering differ depending on how the heating was made: gas, soldering in a salt bath, electric, ultrasonic. There is a lot of information, but this video will help to order this confusion, the non-ferrous metals after that will cease to be something remote and incomprehensible.
When handling such material, whether surfacing, cutting, welding or soldering, always follow the safety rules. Measures should be taken to prevent burns, electric shock, explosions and leaks of gas mixtures, the ejection of molten metals and salts, harmful effects of radiation.
