Mastic for roofing material or how to securely fix the waterproofing?

Ruberoid is a soft roll material with waterproofing properties, which is produced on a cardboard basis and is used for waterproofing roofs.

Advantages of roofing felt are its flexibility, ease of laying and durability. And disadvantages include a slight flammability. It is used in the lower layers of the roofing, the waterproofing of building structures, but more often as the top layer of the roofing.

So, there are several options than to fix the roofing material. Let's consider the characteristics of each of them.

Mastic allows you to create a monolithic seamless coating and provides a reliable waterproofing. Apply the mastic with a roller, brush or spray equipment. Due to this, it can be used on roofs of various shapes. Adheres to the coating itself with cold and hot mastics. It happens to be one-sided and two-sided.

The ruberoid is coated with refractory asphalts either on two sides or with one. One-sided is used for the top layer and is glued with hot mastic. A two-sided is used for any layers of roofing carpet, fixed with a cold mastic.

You can also nail a roofing material using nails and slats. This method of fastening is called mechanical. It provides a reliable fastening. Apply this method to fix the material on a wooden crate, the roof of which must have a slope greater than 15 °.

Than glue the roofing material?

Before you mount the roofing material, you need to prepare the surface. It must be carefully cleaned of debris and dirt. Next, you should repair all cracks and joints, so that the surface becomes as flat as possible. Then dry it and only then apply a primer layer. The primer makes the surface smooth, removes dust and mote. This helps to better bond the roofing material with the roof.

After the surface is ready, you can choose what to paste a roofing material. For this purpose, you can apply glue or mastic. The method of gluing is the same: the mastic or glue is applied evenly. Rolls need to be straightened from the middle to the edges, so that they do not appear air bubbles. If they are still formed, they need to be eliminated. To do this, pierce the material and press the cloth to the surface.

After the first coat is applied, glue or mastic is allowed to dry for 12 hours. Then you can apply the second layer and repeat the whole process.

Nailed ruberoid with nails correctly

Mechanical fixation occurs as follows: before nailing ruberoid, it must be decomposed in the right place and smoothed. Then put the second layer on the first layer. The edges of the second layer must overlap the edges of the first by about 7-10 cm.

Then, on top of it, the slats are nailed. Lay them on a roll cover. The distance between them should be 10 cm less than the width of the roll. Strengthen them with special tolevye nails.

A third layer is placed on top. Its edges should lie on the slats. Then it is leveled and nailed to bars at a distance of 50 cm with tolevic nails. The stitches above the slats are covered with 20-centimeter strips of ruberoid and also nailed. At the end, the roofing carpet is wrapped under the lath for 10 cm and again fixed with nails. On the ribs and the ridge the roofing material is cut from the top with boards and the coating is bent 10-20 cm.
