A varnish is a solution that forms a transparent film on the surface. It is used to protect the surface from the influence of external factors, while retaining an aesthetic appearance. There are four groups of varnishes that are allocated at the place of application:
- Parquet is a one-component acrylic-polyurethane and alkyd-polyurethane. In addition, it is used for doors, furniture and other wooden products.
- Yacht - highly resistant to temperature changes, the influence of aggressive environment, high humidity, etc. Used for outdoor decoration and outdoor objects, for example, for garden furniture.
- Furniture - provides a protective coating not only for furniture, but also for floors and other surfaces made of wood.
- Varnish for decorative finishing - has a wide range of uses, both outside and inside.

In addition, there is also a criterion for choosing varnish. This is its brilliance, it can be glossy, high-gloss, semi-glossy, semi-matt and matte.
By composition, the varnishes are divided into the following groups:
- Alkyd .They are based on organic solvents and alkyd resins. There are for external, internal works and universal. They are strong enough and moisture resistant. The disadvantage of these varnishes is the long drying time. Apply by brush, roller or spray.
- Oily .Such varnishes include organic solvents, natural and synthetic resins, as well as vegetable oils. They are used for the primary layer of the wooden surface. They form a transparent solid film, the shade of which ranges from yellowish to brownish. Drying can last up to several days. It depends on atmospheric conditions.
- Nitrolaki .These are solutions consisting of volatile organic solvents, plasticizers, resins and varnish colloxylin. Used for interior work. They have a short drying time and high strength. But they are harmful to health, because they use toxic solvents. To work with them, wear a respirator.
- Acrylic ( water-based).Such varnishes are the most environmentally friendly. They are fireproof, because their basis is water. Use acrylic compounds for internal work. They are durable and elastic, do not change the color of the wood, while maintaining the naturalness of the surface. The disadvantage is their dependence on the microclimate in the room. Apply them with a special roller or a pneumatic sprayer.
- Epoxy .They have high strength and water resistance. Resistant to chemical and mechanical effects. Dried for 12 hours. They are used for both external and internal work.
- Polyurethane .These varnishes differ from others in their resistance to abrasion, mechanical and chemical effects. The scope of their application is quite wide. You can cover, for example, and musical instruments, and parquet floors.
Choose the varnish for acrylic paint
The varnish for acrylic paints is best chosen in the same way as acrylic, because it is produced on a water basis, like the paint itself. It has excellent adhesion to the surface and is resistant to ultraviolet rays. He is not afraid of moisture and temperature changes. The advantages are:
- ecological cleanliness;
- short drying time;
- no odor;
- ease of application.
Varnish for water-based paint increases the protective properties. Acrylic paint is not affected by water and atmospheric phenomena. And its color does not change for a long time. The varnish improves the appearance and gives the surface aesthetics.
Before applying the lacquer, the surface must be covered with an acrylic primer to secure the paint layer. When it dries, you can apply the lacquer. If you think that these actions are unnecessary, you can soon get a cracked surface and peeling varnish. Of course, this does not always happen, but the probability will grow significantly.
When buying, you need to clarify whether the reinforcing components are included in it. Without them, it will not have high wear resistance. Using quality material, you can get the perfect protective coating of your product.
