Before starting work
Let's estimate the scope of work and prepare the tools needed for repair:
- protective gloves( dense cloth);
- respirator( cement dust is harmful enough);
- glasses for eye protection;
- chisel or chisel;
- hammer;
- perforator;
- polyethylene film;
- is an old blanket.
Preparation of the work site. Proper equipment is a guarantee of safety.
First, identify the place where you will work, with a margin for freedom of movement and protection from pieces of concrete and tiles. To simplify cleaning, following the slaughtering of cement mortar, you can cover the floor with a film of polyethylene. Toilet bowl, sink and other fragile, easily beating objects better wrapped with an old blanket - this will protect them from fragments of concrete and old tiles. After the completion of the work, it remains only to unpack these items, to scrape pieces and dust on the film, which afterwards can be rolled up and thrown away with a sack.
It is necessary to work in safety glasses - this will protect your eyes from dust clogging( which necessarily occurs when breaking the old solution), as well as possible fragments of tiles that can injure the eyes. Hand from injuries and excessive contamination should be protected with dense gloves. If you do not have a respirator to protect your breathing, you can replace it with two layers of gauze and a thin layer of cotton wool laid in the middle.
Removing old ceramic or tile. Cleaning from solution.
As well as preparing the place, you can start work on tile breaking. It is better to start from the extreme upper row, and so the row after row gradually descend. From the wall, the tile is best separated using a chisel or chisel. Carefully pick up the edges, resting the point of the tool between the tile and the old cement. If the tiles are not separated in this way, then it must be broken. Carefully and not strongly hit the middle of the tile with a hammer, you can also apply a couple of strokes on the rest of the tile. As a result, the tile should split into several parts, then in turn, remove each piece.
After you have finished removing all the old tiles you need to clean the old wall solution well. It is best to use a chisel. Only clean it must be very carefully, to a level wall, because it will affect the beauty and quality of laying new tiles. Even small pieces of the old solution can significantly reduce the bonding properties of the new solution.
Completion of work.
Now that the wall is completely cleared of the old tile and mortar, we can safely say that this stage of work is completed. You can wash the wall with warm water - it removes the residue of cement dust from it. After that, carefully, so as not to spill anything, roll the film along with the fragments of the tile and other debris. Remove the blanket from the previously wrapped items and gently knock them out on the street. Now the wall is ready for laying a new tile.
