Which cladding material can serve as a basement tile?
Many prefer the most durable, albeit more expensive materials, and among these not the last place is occupied by clinker tiles. Passed through the temperature, reaching 1250 degrees, it is in strength not inferior to the decorative brick and can fully simulate it, being laid on the basement of the building. The thickness of only 8 to 17 millimeters, this lining is very light and therefore will not crumble under its own weight after a short time.
Finishing the basement of the house by concreting is less durable than tiling, because the latter, even if it is a natural stone, absorbs moisture worse than concrete.
Very beautiful, although less reliable, finish with natural stone, which can be painted like a socle tile, with even rectangles, or have a natural shape. However, it should be borne in mind that the stone absorbs moisture well and, over time, begins to deteriorate under the influence of dampness and temperature changes.
But the finish of the plinth with granite tiles, which also carries the short and capacious name gres, the influence of time practically does not lend itself to. The point is that, since the density of this material is extremely high, cavities, in which moisture could be trapped, are practically absent.
How does the clinker tile fit the base?
The fact that we use clinker tiles for the plinth as an example does not at all mean that the method described below for laying it is not suitable for other materials. In the same way, a ceramic granite coating can be made. So, as usual, everything begins with a thorough preparation of the wall surface, which should not have protrusions more than 4 millimeters.
If any, take the cement-sand mass for leveling( preferably with plasticizers for frost resistance) and apply a thin layer to it, smoothing it to the ideal surface condition. Further on the base there are lines of rows, so that the seams between the tiles are taken into account. For the first row to be laid flat, it is recommended to fill the guide rail, along which the facing elements will be glued. As for the process itself, the laying of the basement tile is extremely simple and does not require extensive experience.
Glue accurately distribute on a finished site at first an equal surface of a spatula, and then dentate, so that the thin layer with horizontal grooves has turned out. Then, the cladding of the plinth is carried out with clinker tiles, which is applied to the adhesive mass and is pressed into it by gentle pressing. Lastly, grouting is performed.
Facing tile socle, the secrets of compatibility with the facade decoration
In addition to the practical side, in the finish of the socle there is also an aesthetic factor, which can not be ignored, otherwise the result will be quite unpleasant. In other words, needs to pay attention to how the tiling of the plinth is combined with the wall coating.
So, for example, if the basement is concrete, and the log walls rise above it, it is not recommended to trim the protective belt of the house with clinker tiles, the effect will be the reverse of what is expected, but artificial or natural stone is suitable for this purpose in the best way.
The tile is ceramic-granite, as, indeed, clinker, it is perfectly suitable in those cases when the walls are covered with lining. With respect to the visual effect, natural stone, along with artificial stone, is used to visually weight the structure of the building.
Tiles that have clay in the base, or just a small thickness, like gres and clinker, are used to make the building look airy, lightened. Neutral plastered walls can be tinted on the plinth, both natural stone and porcelain stoneware.
