What should I have for a successful repair?
First, let's get to know what the drain tank consists of. The tank has a hole for water drainage into the toilet, an overflow tube that is located near the hole, a valve cover with a wide rubber band, a filling( water intake) structure, a button mechanism that controls the descent of water. These simple components are quite reliable, but still, if one of them fails, it will be necessary to replace all the reinforcement.
No complicated tools for repair are needed. Stock up:
- with a tape measure or ruler;
- with wrench;
- with a pair of adjustable wrenches;
- with a new set of fittings.
Water can be supplied to the tank from the side or from the bottom, but at the moment we will take the time for lateral piping.
Installing the drain valve with side water connection
The operation is carried out in a specific sequence.
Determination of the diameter of the pipe
To begin with, it is necessary to accurately determine the diameter of the pipe of the water intake fittings. By standards, sewage pipes that supply water have an internal diameter of 10 or 15 mm, i.e. 1/2 or 3/8 inches. Therefore, when selecting reinforcement, you should be guided by these figures.
The diameter inside the pipe can be determined simply by measuring the outside diameter and looking at the standard values. For a 15 mm pipe( on the outside) corresponds to a size of 3/8 inches of internal diameter, and for 20 mm - 1/2 inches.
Selection of the fitting kit
We are now proceeding to the selection of suitable fittings. Its type is easy to determine, simply by looking inside the drain tank, and then buy in the store a similar design. All the valves are already sold, so you do not need to rack your brains.
Installation of water intake fittings
Observe the sequence:
- Close the water going to the toilet.
- Remove cover and empty container.
- Dismantling of worn out fittings. We unscrew the flexible hose nut, the other hand holding the armature. You will need two wrenches in case the structure is screwed tight. The features of the tank unit are such that you have to work in tight conditions, since the valve is at the bottom and the key will be too long to fit normally in a convenient position. Therefore, it may be necessary to shorten the wrench or stretch the imagination and make an alternative grip.
- Inspect the gasket for wear. Perhaps, it can still be used again, and if not, then we take a new one.
- The new water intake fittings must be installed in such a way that they do not come into contact with the drainage system or the sides of the tank in any way.
- Work is finished - we connect water.
- The last step is to verify the installation.
Not always it can turn out perfectly from the first approach and it is necessary to correct the installation - tighten the nuts, adjust the position of the float.
As you can see, it's very simple and quick to replace the valve of the waste tank, so, do not hesitate, get down to business, and after 5-10 years you will polish your skills by re-changing the armature.
