Warming of the veranda as a way to increase living space

Thermal insulation of the verandah so that you can walk barefoot

When ordering an architectural project for a country wooden house or constructing it according to your own design, you can immediately include a veranda in it, or begin with an internal layout, hoping to attach a veranda to the building in the future. The first option provides a veranda located inside the house( built-in) or rendered outside( outside). The annex is always an outer verandah. In any case, if you do not want to let the cold in this room for the winter as a lodger, there is nothing else to do but arrange for the veranda to be insulated.

Let's start with the floor, which is usually a floorboard, laid on the logs. We remove the flooring and between the logs, connecting them, securely fix( most of all, screws) bars, so as to take into account the thickness of the insulation and leave a few millimeters of air layer to the edges of the lag. We lay the heater in mats( polystyrene, mineral wool, foam), fill the joints with mounting foam, top the lag and cover the thermal insulation with a water-repellent film, fasten it with metallized tape, and lay the flooring. Now we have the walls and ceiling on the turn.

Verandah on which the winter winters

If the veranda is in your house, in this case, you can perform internal insulation of the walls, and, only external, you can not touch with other rooms. To do this, we cover the walls with a waterproof film( horizontal stripes, pasting the joints with metallized tape), atop equal intervals, vertically prick the bars and lay the insulation plates between them. You can fill the intervals by spraying with polyurethane foam, however, it should be noted that this insulation, related to the foam, is quite expensive. Then we pinned a layer of heat reflector made of foamed polyethylene, one of the surfaces of which is covered with a metallized film( it should be turned inwards) and finally an outer skin, for example, a lining. Warming of the ceiling in the wooden house is carried out in an identical way.

If your verandah is an outbuilding or an outhouse, it can be insulated both internally and externally, the technology is approximately the same, the only difference is that the heat reflector should always be turned with metallized film towards the room. By the way, pay attention to the windows and correlate them with the size of the room. In a small veranda, it is possible to install a package of stained glass windows, to the entire height of the wall, or even with sliding frames, , the heat losses will be compensated by the ease of heating the relatively small room of the .In a spacious room, the presence of several not very large windows is welcome, a large area of glazing is permissible only if the window package is represented by triple frames.

Some experts recommend that when warming the house with combustible types of heat insulation around windows and doors, lay insulating flameproof panels, for example - mineral wool, so that the exits are free from fire during a fire.

Thermal insulation of the terrace, by turning it into the veranda

So, we found out that the terrace is a playground, sometimes covered with a canopy or pergolas, usually adjoining the house. Exceptions, of course, are, for example, if the terrace is connected to the house by a long gallery or other covered passage. Whatever it was, and to insulate the terrace is quite possible for everyone, if there is a roof or awning with supporting pillars and some kind of fencing( better brick).True, it all depends on the coverage of the terrace, which can be tiled, board or even turf. The latter makes the insulation of the terrace impossible, because, you see, is difficult to imagine the grass floor inside the room .In all other cases, a terrace covered with a hard roof can be easily isolated from the external environment, creating a comfortable microclimate in it.

So, first of all, the floor. On the perimeter of a cobbled stone or a concrete terrace it is necessary to lay out a low fence of brick or building blocks, if there is none. Then, the stone or tile floor is covered in two layers with an ordinary construction ruberoid, which will be simultaneously steam and waterproof. On top of the insulation, for example, a foam or foam foam, 10-15 centimeters thick, then you can lay a vapor barrier membrane and a laminate or other floor covering on top. Then the simplest solution is the double-glazed windows, which are displayed under the roof itself. Warming of this is carried out on the principle of "roofing pie": waterproofing film on the crate and rafters, insulation, vapor barrier, interior decorative coating.

Terraces with a wooden floor are insulated somewhat differently, although the work also begins with a flooring. As in the case with the veranda of a wooden house, the floors on the terrace are opened and a heater is placed between the lags on specially fixed beams. However, it is best to lay a waterproofing film under it, because from below, from under the terrace, where there is usually no foundation, as under the house with a veranda, moisture can easily penetrate. On the perimeter it is possible to install a rail guard from a bar, and already use it as a base for installing insulating glass, previously insulated, as in the above described coating process, by thermal insulation of the walls of the veranda. Alternatively, it is possible to install double-glazed windows entirely around the perimeter of the terrace, from floor to roof, but on condition that its area is small and the frames will be triple.
