When choosing materials for a table, first of all you should pay attention to the quality of wood - not all wood is suitable for use. Coniferous species such as spruce and pine are malleable and easy to work with, but such material without appropriate treatment is more flammable, and the recovered resins can spoil the tablecloth.
Hardwoods( aspen, oak, ash) are more advantageous, their products are durable, durable and have an attractive appearance.
of wood | Hardness( Brinell) | Density( kg / m3) | Stability | Trends color change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Birch | 3,0 | 600 | average color becomes deeper | |
Larch | 2,6 | 500 | acquires good grayscale | |
Oak European | 3,7 | 700 | good | color becomes deeper |

Materials and tools
For internal arrangement of summer residences and country houses more long narrow tables are more acceptable, allowing to move freely around the room. This should be taken into account, procuring everything necessary for work and designing the table itself.
Worktop boards. For a table it is preferable to use a board with a thickness of at least 30 mm. This thickness will ensure the strength of the table and the ability to withstand heavy loads. The optimal length varies between 150-200 cm. You can purchase two finished wooden shields with a size of 30-2000 mm.
Balusters or wooden beams for legs. Figured balusters give the homemade table a production chic and a luxurious look. And for the manufacture of legs from the bar you need to choose boards with a minimum section of 50x50 mm. Convenient table height is provided at the height of the legs about 73-75 cm.
Other materials and tools
- Boards 20 mm thick and 8-10 cm wide for the worktop frame.
- Putty on wood.
- Screwdriver and self-tapping screws for 30 and 50 mm.
- Sandpaper of various grain sizes, and also the holder.
- Clamps for fixing legs and countertops.
- Electric drill.
- Grinding machine.
- Building level.
- Angle.
- Roulette or centimeter.
- Marker.
- Adhesive.
Stages of manufacture
When preparing materials, all boards and beams are treated with a planer, grinder or coarse-grained sandpaper to remove irregularities, the remains of cut knots, to clean the cracks. The boards should be smooth and smooth, so they are polished on all sides, including the ends, ribs and corners.
If it is supposed to make the worktop an integral shield without gaps, then it is better to acquire sheet metal materials - this will allow to create a stronger bonding of the single web and save time for fitting the elements. From the ribs of the beams for the legs are chamfered.
Frame assembly for table tops
The frame contributes to the strength and stability of the table, its dimensions are completely dependent on the parameters of the tabletop, but there are several general rules: both the length and the width of the frame must be less than 30-25 tabletopssee
Video - Worktop construction
The frame itself is made up of 4 boards forming the outer frame and 6 internal cross bars. The boards are installed on the edge at a right angle with a square and are pulled together by screws 50 mm. Joints are pre-coated with glue( PVA or joinery).To prevent splitting of the boards, they can drill the guide holes and only then screw in the screws.
The length of the frame is made for the cross-pieces, and the guides are drilled. It is very important that the cross members are strictly perpendicular to both sides of the frame frame. The ends of the cross bars are smeared with glue, and the whole structure is fixed with screws. Make sure that the heads of the screws do not protrude, but completely "drowned" in the wood.
The table top boards are joined, leveled by a tape measure and laid down on the floor face down, the top is placed on the frame so that the cross strips are densely laid on the table top. Guide rails for self-tapping screws are drilled in the slats, and all the elements are tightened by screws 30 mm. Each transverse board has 5-6 screws.

Assembling the table legs
The worktop is placed on a workbench or several stools for subsequent mounting of the legs. The table leg is fixed in the corner of the frame with clamps, and the guides for the screws are drilled in the frame.
Before fixing the foot to the end of the bar, glue is applied - this will protect the table from loosening and will contribute to greater strength. It is recommended to fix the foot on each side with four screws, but if desired, you can additionally use metal corners. Round balusters are fixed with long self-tapping screws from the front side of the table, and square ones - on the corner fasteners.
Finishing
After installing the legs, the table is turned over and placed on the floor. Depending on the design of the table, the saws cut off corners along the radius or the end is completely rounded. From the edges of the tabletop, you can cut the chamfers and carefully polish everything.
If necessary, scratches and cracks resulting from the work, are filled with wood filler. The heads of screws should not be touched, so that there is an opportunity to tighten the structure.
After the final polishing, all dust and shavings are removed from the table, and the product itself is covered with stain or several layers of varnish.
Beautifully and unusually look tables with elements of decoupage decoration or a single painting. But to hide the beauty of natural wood under a layer of paint is not worth it, modern varnishes and impregnations will perform all the necessary work to protect the product from moisture.

summer house Variant 2. Tablefrom stump
Unusual and non-standard way to equip personal space is the creation of interior items from natural materials. When the territory is ennobled, old or threatening buildings are often cut down. If your dacha has or was just such a tree, then definitely there will be no problems with finding a suitable stump. If the idea has come spontaneously, then you can search for the desired stump on felling, in the nearest forest or ask the owners of neighboring sites.
Materials and tools
To make such a fantasy stump table you need very little:
- wood for the countertop, the recommended thickness of the tabletop is 20 mm, when choosing boards, you need to adhere to the rule "the bigger the table top, the bigger the cut of the board";
- stump. For the work will require a dried stump of any kind of wood, the main thing is that the wood was whole, not damp and not rotten. If the tree has been cut recently, then the stump should be dried properly. And do it better by placing the stump in a warm dry place or outdoors in sunny weather. It should be remembered that a few weeks is not enough time for quality drying. As a rule, the entire process takes at least two months. Determine the condition of the wood can be by the ease of separation of the bark - if the bark leaves without effort, then you can start working;
- varnish for wood on a water basis of natural shade or transparent. It is this composition that will better emphasize the texture and dignity of natural wood;
- sandpaper of various granularity and holder;
- plane or grinder;
- chisel;
- building level;
- Roulette;
- hammer and nails;Screwdriver and self-tapping screws
- ;
- abrasive fiber.
Stages of manufacturing
Stage 1
The dried billet of the future table needs to be cleaned of the bark. For this stage, a chisel or chisel is useful. It is necessary to remove the bark very carefully and carefully, so as not to damage the wood and prevent the appearance of cracks and splits. All soft and rotten areas also need to be removed.
Stage 2
After the bark has been removed, the stump needs to be aligned with the horizontal plane. To do this, a level surface is prepared with the help of a level, and the base of the future table is fixed on it.
If there is a curvature, then the defects are eliminated using a plane. At the same stage of the work, too large rootstocks of the stump and all unnecessary parts are cut off with a hacksaw, the slices from which are then ground.
Stage 3
The leveled stump is sanded with a disc grinder, especially its horizontal parts. The sidewall of the stump is also ground, and hard-to-reach places are treated with coarse-grained sandpaper. This is a rather labor-intensive process that requires considerable time-consuming efforts.
Stage 4
Cracks and grooves in the trunk must be cleaned of dirt and debris with a chisel, and then folded twice( working layer out) with sandpaper to gently treat them from the inside. Remains of wood dust are cleaned with a brush or a construction vacuum cleaner.
Stage 5
To prevent stump stump and ensure air circulation between the table and the floor, from the bottom you can attach furniture legs to the base. The presence of legs will make it more convenient to move the table.
Feet can be chosen any: metal, furniture wheels or special rubberized coasters. Fasten them best with self-tapping screws to the base of the stump, the amount is chosen arbitrarily, based on the size of the table.
Step 6
After setting the legs, proceed to the crate of the top of the stump. For this, two parallel strips are perpendicular to the sidewalls, and two more rows of holders are on the top - a total of 6 slats, fastened together by nails. This will be the frame for the countertop.
Stage 7
table table. We prepare the prepared countertops from the bottom with cross strips. The form of the table top can be very diverse: round, rectangular, with rounded corners. The winning variant is a table with a round or oval table top.
To make this shape, you can use a homemade device made of thread, pencil and a nail: the end of the thread is tied around the pencil, and the tip of the nail is placed in the middle of the tabletop, selected by the radius delineating the circle, after which everything is cut off, andThe edges and surface of the table top are treated with a grinder.
Stage 8
The holes and defects of the boards can be finely chopped with shiny stones, filled with varnish and treated after drying again with a grinder to smooth the surface.
The finished table top is fixed from the bottom on the crate by nail holders or sized screws.
The finished table is varnished in several layers. After applying the first layer, the product is thoroughly dried and processed with fine-grained emery paper. This will prevent the varnish from peeling off, and the subsequent layers will lie flattened.
After removal of dust, apply a second and subsequent layers of varnish without grouting. If desired, after drying, the last layer can be treated with an abrasive fiber - this will remove excessive gloss and give the surface a haze.
Such a creative table will decorate any veranda, especially in a pleasant frame of green bushes or flower beds.
