Styrofoam for the facade - briefly about the

material Since that time, polystyrene foam, the most demanded type of foam, has firmly taken its rightful place among the new generation thermal insulation materials. Modern development of energy-saving technologies contributed to the rapid development of the production of foams with high technical characteristics.

Polystyrene is a material obtained by polymerization of styrene. It is a colorless, solid and elastic substance. Its structure consists of many balls, each of which consists of several thousand cells filled with air.

Therefore, for the production of one slab, no more than 2% of the feedstock is required. In the production process, a pure hydrocarbon is used to expand the polymeric mass, which under the action of high temperature passes into a volatile state. As a result, the polystyrene beads increase in volume and are glued together, forming a light, uniform insulating material.

Facade foam - we will classify

Depending on the method of production, there are two groups of products made of expanded polystyrene. The first includes products for the production of which granules are used, which are sintered in special forms. Foams of the second group are prepared by adding foaming components to the granular mass.

The entire technological process takes place under the direct influence of high temperatures.

Also polystyrene is classified by types:

  1. PS - pressed;
  2. PSB - suspension non-pressing;
  3. PSB-C - suspension self-extinguishing non-pressing;
  4. EPS - extruded polystyrene foam.

All types of this material are almost identical, in their chemical composition differ only by the presence of special additives and as a result - by the physical and mechanical properties, as well as by the features of operation. Press expanded polystyrene is produced using the technology of ball pressing. Unlike non-pressing, it is a fairly strong material, however, its production is expensive.

PSB polystyrene is the most common type of polystyrene. Its structure is distinguished by its homogeneity and density. It is these characteristics that determine the scope of its application. By the way, facade panels of expanded polystyrene have a density of up to 50 kg / m3.

Extruded polystyrene foam is one of the best types of polymer masses, for the production of which extrusion technology is applied. Due to this, the material is characterized by its high resistance to mechanical loads, density and high moisture-proof properties.

Styrofoam facade - in a nutshell about mounting

As a rule, styrofoam for facade is produced in the form of slabs, the size is 1000x500 mm. Their thickness is selected in accordance with the project of construction or modernization of the building and on average is about 100 mm. Before you begin to fix the foam for the facade of the building, the surfaces of the walls are prepared: joints and crevices are sealed, the remains of the old paint and the expanded plaster are removed.

Next, several layers of primer are applied, after which necessary measurements are made and pilot beacons are placed.

For fixing the plates on the surface, a special adhesive solution consisting of fine sand, cement and glue additives is used. The adhesive is applied evenly to the surface of the plate with a notched trowel. To control the vertical position of the material, the building level is used. In this way, the thermal insulation layer is installed on the entire surface of the building. As a result, the facades of houses made of polystyrene are not only equal, but also sufficiently isolated.
