Warming of the roof of a wooden house with modern materials

Thermal insulation of the roof of a wooden house - what options can the

? In fact, there are only two options: warming the roof of a wooden house in the process of construction, or, as is often necessary, an increase in the thermal insulation properties of the roof of a finished house. In the first case, the use of insulation must be included in the design and, accordingly, the work should be carried out directly at the time of laying the roof. However, such forethought is necessary only when the architect has ordered a house with an attic project. Often it happens that residents have a desire to turn into a living room attic, which is not always insulated, because usually low thermal conductivity is trying to provide a ceiling over living quarters.

So, before us there was a problem of warming of a roof, before it is only a protection against a bad weather. And, consequently, it is necessary to find ways to solve the problem with minimal damage to the roof( this is to the fact that it would be undesirable to completely dismantle this roof itself). Therefore, we will proceed from the structural features of the roof, as well as the climatic conditions of the terrain.

The first step is to inspect the state of the rafters, which must be unconditionally replaced when rot, strong cracking or traces of woodworm activity are detected. If there are no serious abnormalities, it is still desirable to make antiseptic treatment for prevention. Next, go directly to the insulation work. For a pitched roof of an already operated house, they are carried out only from the inside, and for a flat roof they can be executed both from the inside and outside.

Insulation of the roof of a private house - work under the pitched roof

As in Russia the pitched roof is more common, let's consider the option of its insulation first. Advantages of insulating a pitched roof can only be from the inside - you can work even in the rain, significantly shortening the time to obtain the final result. The rafters have already been inspected and put in order, you can no longer postpone and begin warming the roof of a private house, the attic under which our forces have every chance to turn into a cozy attic.

The usual "cold" roof construction is extremely simple: rafters, lathing, roofing. Sometimes between the crate and the rafters there is a windproof layer, whose role is usually reserved for a superdiffuse membrane, which is a combination of excellent waterproofing with the effect of vapor permeability. If this layer is available, the insulation process is reduced by one step, since the protection from water between the roof and the thermal insulation is extremely important in the climate of Russia. If it does not exist, we take the hydro-barrier film and we upholster it from inside with the lath using a construction stapler. It is desirable to take lightly and rafters, so that between them and the film there were no gaps( it is best that the film "envelop" the rafters in general).

Mansards have appeared in Europe, where winters are softer, without the usual Russian frosts that are habitual for us and unacceptable to Europeans. In our country, the insulation layer should be much thicker than the European standards.

It is best to insulate the attic with mineral wool, the thickness of which must be at least 100 mm, but not thicker than the rafters. Next, we hide the rafters under the vapor barrier layer, on top of which, for greater effect, we prick the horizontal bars of a small section, between which we lay another layer of mineral wool of the appropriate thickness. The final touch is plasterboard or any other options for interior decoration, right up to the plastic panels, on which the insulation of the pitched roof can be considered complete.

Thermal insulation of the wooden roof of the flat type

Some holiday homes are originally built with flat roofs, the construction of which is much simpler than the pitched ones. And it can be thorough attics, light superstructures with an attic space below them and bescherdachnye options. The last of us, of course, is not interested, but the first two types of designs - completely. A light superstructure can also be ignored without good walls( except if you replace them with stained glass windows from floor to ceiling). However, we are not talking about the preferability of the construction, but about the method of warming the roof, which in the case of a flat roof involves external work, as more simple in execution. To create a reliable protection against cold and moisture, we need a basalt mineral wool, a vapor barrier, an ordinary roofing material or its analogs, as well as any bulk material - small gravel, expanded clay.

Now let's talk directly about the insulation of the wooden roof. We begin with the vapor barrier, which is covered with the first layer, preferably homogeneous or striped, but overlapped. Mineral cotton wool is placed on top, which is usually sold in rectangular blocks. Its thickness should be quite large, about 100 millimeters. On mineral cotton wool lay a third layer - ruberoid or a suitable synthetic material, which is adhered with mastic or molten resin. We decorate our "pie" with a powder of rubble and leave the roof with a sense of accomplishment, now the main thing is that the walls do not let the cold pass.
