Overview of options for laying pavers

If you have decided to pave the path near the house with eco-friendly and durable material, then it's time to learn about the options for laying pavers.

Timely question asked about the possible location of the stones will allow you to purchase the right amount of elements of the future coating.

Despite the apparent complexity, it is worth trying to do this case yourself.

If the site is small, for example, a path in the garden, then it can be paved with your own hands in a few days. The main thing is to do everything slowly, carefully, consistently.

Here are some tips that will help prepare for the job and perform it qualitatively:

  • The material should be selected taking into account the loads that the coating will perceive in the future;
  • The laying of pavers must be made on a sloping surface so that puddles do not stagnate;
  • For simplification of sand compacting and acceleration of work it is better to use a road roller or compacting machine;
  • The laying of the coating must be carried out in front of you, the master must move forward.

Types of pavers according to the material and the method of production

The concrete, clinker and stone paving blocks are on sale.

The most common paving stones are made of concrete. Such a tile is cheaper than others, has good indicators of frost resistance and strength.

Clinker pavers are made of special clay.

Cobs made of these materials can be manufactured in two different ways: vibro-casting and vibrocompression.

If the surface covered with such a coating will be affected by a large load( a dense stream of people, heavy vehicles), then preference should be given to the pavers made by vibrocompression.

If, however, the loads are moderate, for example, as on the path near the house, then vibropressed tiles will cope with their task.

This production method allows to carry out the elements of coating of any shapes, colors and textures. The service life with high-quality styling, proper care can reach several tens of years.

The video shows the device, which produces vibropressed blocks and paving stones.

Obviously, this is a very complex and expensive mechanism, but the result is a stronger and more durable product.

Stone pavers have the most noble appearance, but are much more expensive.

The raw material can serve as granite, marble, basalt. This material also gives the pavement a special strength and incredible durability.

The most common use of granite.

The production technology divides the elements from stone into three types presented on the photo below:

  • Fully-sawed;
  • Sawed and chipped;
  • Crushed.

Different types of pavers

The fully-sawed stone blocks are obtained as a result of the sawing of the original stone from all sides, resulting in an ideal shape of the stone block.

Cut-saw blanks are pre-cut in two opposite planes, after which uneven sides are sawn off.

The crushed stone blocks are given a cubic shape, splitting excess from six sides.

The surface of the stone is not perfectly even, but has the most natural appearance.

The laying of the

board Before starting work, you need to prepare the necessary tools and materials: brooms, rubberized hammer, construction level, metal stakes, rope, rammer( manual or electric), rubble, sand, M500 cement, paving stones.

The laying of sidewalk tiles begins with the preparation of the working surface: with the help of stakes and ropes make the marking of the site.

Next, remove the top layer of soil, make a base of rubble and sand and compact it. You can check the correctness with the help of the building level, as in the following photo.

Construction level check

Depending on the loads acting on the coating, choose one of the three types of base under it: sand cushion, cement-sand mixture, cement-sand mortar.

Each element of the coating requires a draft, it is better to use a rubber hammer, it will not make too much noise. The video clearly shows how to "adjust" the stones to each other.

Border can be laid out before the beginning of work or, lastly, in the video it is obvious that the master additionally verifies the evenness of the rows along the edge of the pre-installed curb stone.

Saw elements for laying out the perimeter, as in the next video, you need at the very end, you can use the Bulgarian for this.

After all installation work is completed, joints should be filled with a special dry or liquid compound.

Then all the cover is swept with brooms or rubbed with sponges, so that the composition maximally fills the space between the tiles, then spills with water.

After a day coating can be used for its intended purpose. The following video shows the way to fill the seams with a waterproof compound.

Different types of paving stone

Today, the market for building materials presents a variety of paving slabs.

Different variants of colors and shapes are possible: a classic brick and a rhombus begin this row and the cobblestone Old Town and English cobblestone finish.

Brick - the most versatile, and therefore common tiles. Any city is filled with roads paved with such a coating.

Ways of laying are not limited to the form, and therefore you can come up with a great variety of options. If you use several colors, then this number increases several times.

The English cobblestone has a rectangular shape and resembles a natural stone in texture. Like the paving slab of the Old City, this material is reminiscent of paving roads in the past.

This coating is somewhat uncomfortable for transport and pedestrians in uncomfortable shoes, but they create a pleasant atmosphere, smoothing out all the shortcomings.

A rhombus is a simple shape with even sides. Also gives room for imagination. Variants of drawings can be either geometric or arbitrary.

With the help of a diamond shape, you can even create a kind of optical illusion. For a greater decorative effect, it is preferable to use three colors or more.

Clover - a complex shape that limits the number of varieties of styling. It is the most difficult form for beginners, since a mistake in one row, even half a centimeter, can lead to distortion of the entire canvas.

Old Town - manufacturers offer a combination of four tiles of different sizes: large, half from a large, square, half of a square or tile, making up a third of the large. Laying options are limited only by the artist's imagination.

Ways of laying the basic forms of the paving stone

The rectangular shaped tile( brick, English cobblestone) can be laid out in one of simple ways, if monochrome elements are used, as in the photo below.

From left to right: linear laying without shear, linear laying with a shift relative to each other, "herringbone", spiral laying, modular laying, modular laying with a linear dressing.

If several colors are used for stacking, then the number of options increases by several times. Below in the photo are only some of them.

Below in the photo shows the performance of some schemes.

A rhombus is an uncomplicated form, and therefore the execution of patterns on the surface can be arbitrarily complex. This is facilitated by the fact that the paving stone is not difficult to lay. Below are some fairly simple schemes.

On the following photo the options are: gray and white diamond form the snowflake pattern.

The shape of the diamond is fraught with enormous potential.

Tile Old Town provides a wide field for activities. Different sizes of individual elements and different colors will create a unique pattern.

Since all the tiles are of regular shape, it is obvious that they can be stacked in rows.

However, these series should not be straight, they can bend at least in an arc, drawing bizarre patterns, as in the following photos.

The name "Old Town" for this tile is not an accident, because in former times the roads were made of different granite, and no one was engaged in the selection of colors and sizes, the stones were laid out chaotically.

It is also possible to do today with a modern tile Old Town. However, you should still try not to allow a large accumulation of elements of the same color or size.

This method will take more time, but the appearance will be proof of the validity of the expended forces.

Sidewalk tile clover has a very eye-pleasing shape. However, this affects the complexity of laying this coating.

And the installation option is only one. The name "clover" comes from the similarity of four-leaf clover to this form.

The following video shows the options for laying different paving slabs and pavers.

Advantages of pavers are the reliability and environmental friendliness of the materials used.

The same plus is that if the coating is damaged in some places, it is easy to eliminate, replacing the old broken stone with a new one.

Relative simple laying and durability of the coating make the paving stone an indispensable material for tracks and yards.
