Erection of a greenhouse made of polycarbonate

The polycarbonate greenhouse with its own hands is built quite often due to its strength and ease of installation.

The construction of greenhouses makes it possible to increase the vegetation and yield of planted plants so that the winter season is not frightening for them.

Designs reliably protect plants from rain and temperature drop and give a good harvest.

This is possible if there is ventilation, heating of the room and a microclimate is created.

The most common installation of a greenhouse is done using polycarbonate. In the video below you can see such projects.

Polycarbonate is very widely used. With the help of it, equipment and assembly of the roof, stained-glass windows, light awnings and visors is made.

In agriculture, it is used in the construction of greenhouses, winter gardens and, most importantly, greenhouses.

Polycarbonate-skinned construction is more durable and stronger than a glass or film coating( the winter time is quickly destroyed), although the thickness of the sheet is only 4 to 8 mm.

The structure of polycarbonate sheets is a honeycomb that is filled with air. Honeycombs are very plastic and flexible, easily cut with a knife to the right size and to assemble them very simply.

polycarbonate Pros

Application polycarbonate provides:

  • Lightweight and easy to install;
  • Excellent thermal insulation;
  • Natural light transparency from 90% and above;
  • A special coating that protects plants from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation;
  • High strength( 200 times more durable than conventional glass);
  • Resistance to sudden changes in temperature( winter temperatures can safely drop to -40 degrees below zero, and in summer to rise to + 60 degrees);
  • Convenient execution of sheathing of structural spans, since the sheets have compact dimensions;
  • Withstanding increased wind and snow loads proves that winter weather is not a hindrance and harvesting will pass without problems;
  • High fire safety( polycarbonate honeycombs do not burn);
  • High protection in case of chemical attack( for example, in case of acid rain);
  • The minimum weight, which allows you to reduce the amount of spent budget on fasteners.

But besides the pluses of cellular polycarbonate there are several disadvantages.

Polycarbonate consoles

The polycarbonate installation requires that certain rules be observed:

  • Material sheets should always be closed on the front side to prevent airing and ingress of moisture and insects. In the future it causes mold, fungi and structural damage;
  • It is necessary to carefully clean the dirt and dust from the greenhouse and use only neutral detergents;
  • Do not use detergents containing salt, alkali, chlorine and ether;
  • Do not use abrasive pastes or sharp objects when cleaning the greenhouse. This causes damage to the outer layer of the structure;
  • Regular winter cleaning of the greenhouse from snow prevents the occurrence of ice, deformation and collapse of the structure profile.

In the video below you see the result of improper care for the greenhouse.

As you can see, polycarbonate cover gives the opportunity to build a warm and durable greenhouse.

To properly place it on the site, you must sketch the drawing.

It is better to place it in an open area, not covered by other buildings or trees, then heating the greenhouse with the sun will be a full day, and airing will not be difficult.

Having finished the plot of the plot, we draw the greenhouse itself. The video below shows the process of creating a possible drawing.

Video:

Form of greenhouse

Drawing begins with the selection of the form. According to the shape of the structure, the greenhouses can be very diverse.

Sometimes, for example, a wall greenhouse is made. The wall greenhouse allows you to reduce the consumption of material and keep the heat.

The roof of the greenhouse can be single-skinned or gable, but the most common form is the arched form of the roof.

It is easy to make not only the drawing of such a roof, but also to carry out installation on it.

The arched roof is the best option for those who plan to make a polycarbonate greenhouse with their own hands.

The photo below shows a similar roof.

Arched roof

The only negative - in order to turn the drawing into life and make arches from metal corners or pipes, you need to use a special pipe bender.

If such an instrument is not available, then as an option - you can buy ready-made arched constructions.

When you have decided on the place, dimensions and prepared the necessary drawings, you can start preparing the foundation.

Base selection

The foundation of the greenhouse is very important. It is important that it is quality and reliable.

There are several types of foundations:

  1. Brusova;
  2. Brick;
  3. Stone;
  4. Tape.

Let's take a closer look at each of them.

Brusovoy

The foundation with the use of wood is inexpensive and easy to install, but very short-lived:

  • The foundation of wood will last for a maximum of 5 years, even if treated with an antiseptic. After this, decomposition processes will begin inside the tree, and it will lose its functions. If you need a cheap greenhouse for a short time, then this foundation of the wooden profile will be the best option;
  • Installation is extremely simple. We drive along the perimeter of the steel corners. We take vertical wooden supports and immerse them in the ground, attaching them to the corners. We use a beam of wood( size - 10 by 10 cm) and mount it around the perimeter of the greenhouse.

Foundation for a greenhouse

Brick

The foundation with the use of bricks is much better and more durable:

  • If the installation was done correctly, then this foundation will last a very long time. The main thing is that the size of the greenhouse does not exceed the size of the foundation. The bigger it is, the more bricks should go to the ground. Do not save on bricks, otherwise such a foundation can not withstand the weight of the structure installed on it;
  • Installation involves the installation of bricks on a cushion with waterproofing so that they do not touch the ground and do not collapse. We build a brick foundation with the help of ordinary mortar. Mortar can be fixed bricks and on the sides, so that the foundation was more stable and reliable.

Brick foundation

Stone

The foundation stone is ideal for a polycarbonate greenhouse:

  • Its base will easily withstand a heavy construction and will safely serve more than one generation of avid gardeners. The foundation is very reliable, but at the same time very expensive. Manufacturing it is also not the simplest;
  • Because of the natural origin of the stone, it must be laid in a certain way and called for this specialist, since it is very difficult to lay a foundation of untreated stone correctly. In addition, the construction requires the laying of armopoyas and spilling of its sides.

Stone foundation

Belt

The foundation is used most often for the construction of greenhouses:

  • Installation of such a foundation does not require much time and effort, but the final result is very good. Despite the low cost, such a foundation is very durable and reliable. We need only a solution, formwork and a cushion to prevent subsidence;
  • Create a cushion using gravel or sand. After that, the formwork is installed, which gives the structure a shape, then pour the solution 30-40 cm wide and 0.5 m deep. The foundation will be very strong, and it is possible to install not only a greenhouse on it, but even an arbor or a summer camp.

Ribbon foundation

Useful advice: it is better to install any foundation so that it rises above the ground level by at least 25-30 cm. This will protect the base from premature failure, and prolong the service life.

In the video below you can see the process of installing the foundation.

Installing the greenhouse

After filling the base, proceed to installing the greenhouse:

  1. First, we build a frame. For the frame produce different types of profiles - plastic, aluminum or galvanized. But it is better to take a profile from a tree, because unlike a wooden structure, another profile can easily break under the influence of gravity. For example, a profile bump occurs at the pressure of a large amount of snow on an arched roof. If you have a gable roof, then this problem can be avoided;
  2. We make the installation of arched elements. We weld them together using longitudinal ties of the same profile as the arch;
  3. We carry out the installation of front structures. On the one hand, we make the door, on the other hand, there must necessarily be a vent( the ventilator improves the airing of the room, sometimes it does not even require special ventilation);
  4. After you can already cover the frame with polycarbonate sheets. The sheets can be overlapped using a joint profile. For profile fixings we use rubberized thermowells, which will prevent moisture and dirt from entering.

Construction is quite laborious, but at the same time an interesting process. In the video below you can see the detailed installation of the greenhouse.

After the greenhouse of polycarbonate has been constructed by its own hands, it is necessary to insulate it and make the heating of the room.

Insulation and heating of the greenhouse

Some summer residents to cover the greenhouse, cover it with sacking.

This is an old and uncomfortable method, since the burlap does not allow light to pass through, therefore, it can only be used at night.

In addition, the size of burlap should have the same dimensions as the whole greenhouse, which is very inconvenient to use.

It is much more convenient to insulate the greenhouse from the inside and out with a transparent or bubble plastic. It does not absorb light and looks aesthetically.

In addition, the assembly of such a heater is easy and simple. The photo below shows a kind of greenhouse with bubble plastic.

Types of heating greenhouses

Heating greenhouses is a very important point, as space heating allows you to harvest a richer harvest.

Heating, and therefore heating, can be different:

  1. Furnace heating provides space heating with a stove, a boiler or a barbecue. In this case, in addition, ventilation should be installed in order to have a good ventilation of the room. Heating at the same time is distributed unevenly and does not provide sufficient heating of the entire greenhouse;
  2. Heating of the greenhouse with convectors and heaters provides heating with electricity. In this case, ventilation is not required;
  3. Water heating also provides heating to the greenhouse. The day of it requires the installation of pipes, through which the pump will circulate hot water from the boiler. The boiler is heated by electricity, gas or solid fuel( in the 2 nd and 3 rd case, ventilation is necessary);
  4. Heating may be gas. Gas heating is carried out with the help of catalyst burners. The use of gas implies regular airing. Ventilation around the perimeter is still the best option.

The heating of the greenhouse is quite a costly thing. But heating allows you to grow plants and harvest throughout the year.
