Washing machine belongs to the class of complex household appliances, which means that in the course of its operation many different problems can arise - in the water supply system, drainage, power supply, electronics, etc. Even if you purchased the device from a reliable, well-proven manufacturer, this does not mean that the washing machine will always work properly. After several years of active use, problems occur even in the best quality models.
One of the most troublesome places of any washing machine is a system of draining and recruiting water. It is here that a significant proportion of breakages occur. In this article, we'll tell you about what happens when one of the filters gets clogged, and how this problem can be solved by ourselves.
What filters are installed in the washing machine?
In order to maximally secure the mechanism of the washing machine from ingress of foreign objects, each device is equipped with two filters at once: one is "at the input" and the other - "at the output":
- A filler filter is needed so that, together with water,particles of rust, lime and other small debris fell.
- The drain filter is designed to prevent the detergent residues, threads, buttons and other things accidentally falling into the drum from clogging into the pump.
In addition to two "mandatory" filters, one additional one can be installed in the washing machine, which cleans and softens the tap water.
How do I remove and clean the priming filter?
The device filtering the water that enters the tank is not installed in all washing machines, but in most modern models it is still available.
The filler filter is a small metal mesh on which small debris settles. Periodically, a thick layer of plaque builds up on the filter, which makes water access difficult. In this case, the filter must be cleaned.
This filter can be found at the rear of the washing machine, where there is a valve regulating the supply of water, and a water inlet hose. Before starting work, it is necessary to disconnect the unit from the mains and disconnect the water hose. The filler filter is located behind this hose.
The filter can be easily removed using pliers or pliers. Usually there is a layer of dirt, lime and rust on it. All these contaminants must be carefully removed without damaging the device itself. It is best to do this with a toothbrush. No special cleaning agents are not necessary to use, most often just enough large amounts of warm water. After cleaning the filter, return it to the place and attach the water inlet hose.
You can visually see this process in the next video.
How do I remove and clean the drain filter?
Much more trouble comes with a drain filter, because it is through it that water passes after washing things. All washed dirt, grease, as well as the remains of detergent and air conditioner settle on this device, so the clogs in it are formed regularly.
The drain filter is usually located on the front of the washing machine, in one of the lower corners. Usually it is behind a small plastic door. If there is no such door on your washing machine, you will have to remove the front panel to get to the filter. It is removed very easily, since it is not fixed in anything, except simple latches.
Having opened the plastic door or removed the panel, you will see a small detail, similar to a cork - this is the filter. It has a special notch that you need to grasp with two fingers, and then turn the filter clockwise and pull it toward you. In some models, you need to rotate the filter until it turns off. Sometimes the drain filter can be fixed with one bolt - in this case use a screwdriver.
If during the extraction of the filter water has flowed from it, do not panic - this is normal. It is better to prepare in advance a container or rag for it, so as not to wet the floor. After removing the filter, first clean the hole in which it was located. Then flush the filter and screw it back.
We offer the following video tutorial.
If it does not work out
This happens when a lot of mud and fat deposits accumulated in the drain system. Then the filter is firmly stuck, and it is almost impossible to pull it out in the usual way. However, it is necessary to clean it, so we will try to get close to this detail from the other side. To do this, put the washing machine on its side, then unscrew the fasteners that secure the lower panel. Remove the bottom cover, find the pump and pull it out. Now you can easily extract the drain filter from the opposite side.
Features of location in different washing machines
Manufacturer | How to find the filter? |
LG Hotpoint Ariston Candy Ardo Samsung Whirlpool | In these washing machines, the drain filter is very low. To get close to it you probably will not have to remove the bottom panel, as many models do not have it in principle. |
Bosch Siemens AEG | For these types of washing machines, the standard arrangement of the drain filter is typical - in the front lower part of the appliance. However, to get it, you will have to completely remove the front panel. |
Electrolux Zanussi | To remove the drain filter from this washing machine, move the unit away from the wall so that you can easily access the rear of the unit. The filter is located just behind the rear panel, which is easily removed with a screwdriver. |
Indesit | This manufacturer places a drain filter on the right side of the unit. You can get to it by carefully removing the decorative front panel. This is done with a thin screwdriver, which is inserted between the body of the machine and the front cover. |
When should I check the filter?
The following signs indicate that one of the filters of the washing machine is clogged:
- , a message about the failure in the program is displayed;
- the water merges very slowly;
- the device abruptly stops washing and does not resume it;
- it is not possible to start the rinsing mode;
- does not start the spinning program;
- the water does not drain from the tank even forcibly.
If you notice such oddities in the behavior of the washing machine, after the washing is completed, it is necessary to diagnose the condition of the filters.
Prevention of obstructions
- The drain filter must be cleaned regularly so that dirt can not accumulate and is easily removed. Do this at least once every three months.
- To ensure that detergent residues do not settle in the drain filter, use only tested powders and air conditioners for washing. Poor-quality products are poorly soluble in water, so they can be collected in a lump and accumulate in different parts of the washing machine.
- Keep track so that foreign objects do not get into the drum of the stylal: turn the pockets of things and zip up before washing. Small things and clothes with a lot of decorative elements( rhinestones, beads, paits) should be washed in special cases.
