Linoleum laying on the wooden floor: the main advantages of the

material We immediately note that linoleum is a material of natural origin that includes linseed oil, resin from wood species, jute fabric, cork flour and limestone powder. It is used, mainly, in those places that have the greatest patency. These include a kitchen or, say, a corridor.

The choice of this material as a floor covering is not accidental, because it has a lot of advantages. These include:

  • resistance to penetration of moisture;
  • strength;
  • elasticity;
  • resistance to wear;
  • simplicity of care;
  • is a simple laying process;
  • a large range of available colors and patterns;
  • is an affordable price.

Preparing linoleum for laying

Before laying linoleum on plywood will be done, it is necessary to carefully prepare the material for this. So, for starters, you have to put the material in the room and let it straighten out.

Warning! This process should occur at an air temperature of at least 16 ° C, humidity not more than 40%.

Determine when linoleum is completely ready for laying, very simple. It is necessary to make sure that there are no wrinkles and excesses on its surface. If on linoleum there are defects which are not smoothed out, then it is straightened out forcibly. For this, a heavy object falls on the fold. If this did not help, then it is realistic to return the defective roll back to the store where you purchased it.

It is also important to be able to correctly calculate the required amount of material. To do this, measure the room in length and cover it with 10 centimeters on each side. If you decide to do the laying of the material with a picture, then take care that you cut off one spacing with a pattern in reserve.

Options for laying the flooring

The liner can be laid on the fiberboard in three ways, which we will now tell you:

  • The fastest way of laying is the option without gluing the material to the floor. The only thing worth paying attention to is that this method is possible only if the area of the room does not exceed 12 square meters.

Warning! The disadvantage of this variant of installing linoleum is a fast process of wear. In addition, the risk of wave formation increases.

  • The second way of laying is to glue the linoleum onto a double-sided adhesive tape. The main advantage is that at any time it is possible to dismantle the coating. But it is not uncommon for cases when there is a trace of scotch on the floor.
  • The most durable and reliable way of laying is the installation of linoleum on glue. Having resorted to this option, you will be freed from the shortcomings of the two above options. This method is mandatory when the area of the room exceeds 20 square meters. Its only drawback is the complexity.

We build linoleum

So, laying of linoleum on chipboard or any other wooden covering occurs according to the following algorithm:

  • We break down the material on the floor, leaving a margin of 10-15 centimeters at the edges.
  • Next, starting from the middle and going to the edges of the flooring, level the linoleum. This is done to ensure that the cover fits snugly against the walls at the edges of the room.
  • If you have chosen a method without gluing, then excess coating residues are cut off with a knife, and in the doorways a metal threshold rap is stuffed.
  • In case if it was decided to make the installation on a double-sided scotch, then before laying the material it is necessary to glue the entire perimeter of the floor with scotch, and then lay the linoleum itself.

Please note that the mounting on the double-sided adhesive tape is done gradually, with small cuts, and each section is smoothed from the center to the edges in order to avoid the appearance of waves.

  • When installing a floor covering with adhesive mastic, the linoleum is half folded, after which a uniform layer of glue is applied to the floor with a roller or brush. Then half bends, and all the irregularities are smoothed out. The same algorithm is used when gluing the second half of the linoleum. The gluing of the second part is necessary after 20 minutes after the first. This will give glue to grab and will not allow the float to cover. Finally, I would like to note that the laying of the floor covering is necessary first of all, even before the drywall was installed !
