Polymer plaster to create an excellent decorative coating

Properties and scope of application

Modification of plaster compositions is necessary to improve the physical and mechanical properties and better adhesion of the plaster layer to the substrate. Plus, they are great for decorative decoration, as they have many varieties in texture and color. Of the main properties have the following:

  • Paraprincipability.
  • Frost resistance.
  • Hydrophobicity.
  • Water resistance.
  • Shock resistance.
  • Plasticity.
  • Environmentally friendly.

Polymer plasters form a thin decorative coating, and is used for both internal and external work. Suitable for concrete, gypsum plasterboard, cement-sand substrates. Often used in the decoration of the socle and facades, as well as for interior finishing of the walls of houses, office buildings, public buildings.

Surface preparation for applying polymer and polymer cement plasters

Before applying polymer or polymer cement plasters, it is necessary to prepare the surface. The walls should be level, without holes, bumps and cracks. Also on the ground there should be no spots of grease, dirt or dust. Any fragile areas are removed, cracks and depressions are grounded.

The type of primer that is most suitable for plastering is often indicated on the packaging by the manufacturer. The approximate flow is also indicated there. A major violation is the use of a primer, which is not recommended or not suitable for chemical composition to the plaster coating. As a result, serious errors in surface preparation are allowed and the desired result is not achieved.

It is true that some manufacturers of polymer plasters do not specify the type of primer and do not use them for their finishing coatings. As a rule, such plaster mixes are of high quality, since they contain a large number of polymer additives that compensate for the absence of a primer.

Then the decorative polymeric plaster is dissolved in water. Usually, 1 kg of the mixture is added with 200-220 ml of water. Stir thoroughly. Then the solution is kept for 5-15 minutes( depending on the manufacturer) and mixed again until a paste-like mass is obtained, in which there should be no lumps.

How to apply decorative polymeric plaster?

Often the question arises - how to apply decorative plaster? Is the process different from applying classic plaster?

The application of decorative plaster is carried out with a spatula or a trowel. The thickness of the applied layer is equal to the thickness of the grains that make up the plaster. The maximum size in this case can be 1.5-2.5 mm( since this is the maximum thickness of the grains). When leveling the composition, the spatula should be held at an angle of 40-50 degrees to the surface. Further, within 5-15 minutes using a metal or plastic float give the decorative layer a certain( granular) texture.

The process is carried out at a certain air temperature and the corresponding humidity level. The air temperature should be from + 10 ° to + 25 ° C, the bases from + 5 ° to + 30 ° C.Work on one base must be carried out continuously from one corner to the second. If it is important to take a break, then along the line of the last works apply a painting tape and cover it with plaster, thus giving an invoice. After the tape is removed together with the remnants of the plaster. The applied solution must be protected from drafts, direct sunlight and rain for 24 hours.
