How to fill a floor in a bath

For us, the bath from the ordinary human need for hygiene has become a kind of rest, intended for both the body and the soul. But that the bath gave us pleasure, it must be carefully thought out and correctly built.

At the same time, you will have a question: what should the floor be made from? Of wood, of course, will prompt you, because everyone does it! But in fact it is better to pour the floor with concrete - this is both more convenient and more durable. Of course, the concrete floor will need to be additionally covered in some way - wooden grilles or cork mats. Their advantage is that it is very convenient to dry them.

How to fill the floor in the bath

It is characteristic that the floor can be poured with concrete only in the wash and the therma, in all other rooms the floor must be wooden. Fill the floor in the bath - the procedure is laborious and expensive, but this kind of coverage will last you an order of magnitude longer.

STEP ONE: PREPARATORY WORKS

To begin with, note that if the soil under the bath is sandy( read: well absorbed moisture), then under the washing it is necessary to dig a drainage pit in which water would accumulate. If the earth is clay, then we will need to dig a small pit, from which the pipeline will be conducted. It will pass under the foundation and discharge water into the gutter. At the end of the pipeline, make a bolt so that unpleasant odors from the sink pit do not enter the bath. The walls of the pit can be finished with concrete or tiles, approximately 5 cm, and a metal grate is placed on top.

We prepare the foundation for the future floor

When the drainage pit is ready, we must prepare the bases for the future floor. To do this, perform the following steps.

The general scheme of creating a floor in a bath

  1. Seal the ground and slightly tilt it towards the pit. Then a fifteen centimeter layer of crushed stone falls on top. Along the basement is a ball of clay. When all the layers are laid, we again carefully tamp all this.
  2. It is recommended that the concrete layer be made double so that it is warmer in the steam room and washroom. The first of the layers should be no more than five centimeters, traditionally, with a slope in the direction of the pit. Wherever concrete joins with the walls, we pour bitumen to avoid seepage of water.
  3. Give the first layer some time to freeze. After that, put a layer of insulation, it can be as a mineral wool, and ordinary felt. If the choice fell on the minivat, then it should be protected from moisture - it is enveloped in a ruberoid.
  4. When the insulation is installed, we fill the second concrete layer. It should already be reinforced and for this ideal mesh-netting. When concrete is compacted, a cement mixture is applied to it, which must be properly leveled with a small piece of board.

STEP TWO: PREPARING SOLUTION FOR FLOORING CONCRETE BY CONCRETE

Now, I would like to talk a little about how to prepare a concrete mix correctly. First, it is better to add the expanded sand, which will add to the reliability of the future flooring. In addition, such sand has excellent thermal insulation performance, which is ideal for pouring floors in a bath. You can also use perlite instead of sand, it has similar properties, it is somewhat better than it, but here the procedure for making a solution with it has its own characteristics.

So, what you need to know. Perlite is nothing but light sand, so work places must be reliably protected from the wind. Why - I think, you will guess. So, we proceed directly to the preparation of the solution.
  1. To begin with, make a dry mix, in order to fill it with a concrete mixer. We fall asleep 2 buckets of perlite or sand and fill it all with 10 liters of water. We mix this and notice that the volume of perlite gradually decreases. This is normal, because it absorbs moisture. After mixing, add 5 liters of cement. Another 5 minutes mixed, add 5 liters of liquid and continue the procedure.
  2. So, we wait, when the mixture becomes homogeneous, after that we fall asleep 2 more liters of water and 10 kg of sand. Again, we prevent until the mixture becomes free-flowing. Then we stop the mixer for ten minutes, but you can not add water under any circumstances. When the time runs out, the process is resumed and continues until the excess liquid is separated and the solution becomes "plasticine".
  3. Put the resulting mixture on the floor of the bath. We make the screed, finished with this work, and carefully level the surface. Do not forget about the same inclination. It will take five days to solidify the mixture. Yes, it's a long time, but the result will pleasantly surprise you.

STEP THREE: HOW TO GET WITH THE SURFACE NEXT?

You can put ceramic tiles on already dried screed. If it is a wash, then the knowledgeable experts recommend using it for the Metlakh tile. If so, a dry cement should be applied to the concrete screed, about ½ kilogram per square meter, after which the ceramic tiles are laid directly. We lay it neatly, tightly pressing it. After that, we wait for two days and then cover the seams between the tiles with a cement mixture.

There are other people who insistently recommend to put tiles in the washroom. We do not quite agree with this, because tiles, in spite of their hygiene and excellent external characteristics, are at the same time very dangerous in terms of traumatology. In other words, it can easily slip and fall.

What not to do in a bath, in particular in a washroom, is to cover the floor with synthetic material. For example, the same laminate under the influence of high temperatures often releases harmful substances for our body, which we will inhale when visiting a bath. They can also be absorbed by human skin.

AS A CONCLUSION.IMPORTANT TIPS FOR FLOORING CONCRETE BY CONCRETE

Now I would like to consider in more detail such an important issue as flooring in a bath. This procedure makes it difficult for many, and many, reflecting on this topic, and to know did not know that the floor pouring is easy to implement on their own, in addition, in record time. A mixture of cement and sand will serve as a mixture( or, in other words, a mixture of cement and sand), but in the event that ceramics are placed on top of the concrete coating, we can use a simple concrete mix that is sold in any construction shop. So, what advice would we like to give you? And here they are!

  1. To begin with, the recommended proportions. The amount of cement screed plays a big role in pouring, so it should be carefully calculated. In general, one and a half square meters requires one bag. Regarding the same tools, then all of them you can also easily buy at any specialized store.
  2. If the tile is your final solution, then we recommend using special self-leveling screeds in the work, besides the standard cement they are also composed of anhydrate and gypsum.
  3. Fill from the corner as far from the entrance as possible. Ideally, you need to do this with an assistant who would prepare and give you the solution while you are directly filling. All excess mixture must also be moved to the entrance, to the place where the pouring is not done yet. The main condition is the non-stop process, after one layer has been laid, the second one must immediately begin following it. Start of the floor filling
  4. Next, you will notice that the pouring dries in a day or two, you might even think that the floor can already be used, but it's not right. Ideally, it should not be subjected to heavy loads for another seven days, or even better - two or even three weeks. In addition, during drying the screed should be moistened several times a day, so that it does not crack in the future.
  5. If you do not want to wait that long, then we have great news for you - this can be avoided! To do this, during the manufacture of the mixture, special substances called plasticizers should be added to it. They will easily bind all the elements of the solution, which will prevent cracking of the surface in the event of a quick operation. Moreover, this will greatly increase its strength and durability.
  6. When the screed is dry, you will probably be interested in how much you have done all the work. This can easily be clarified by resorting to simple tests. To begin with, we determine how homogeneous the screed is, it can be made according to its color: if it is monotonous gray, it means that you have done a great job. Regarding the strength, it is checked by banal blows of the hammer: if after impact the surface is practically not damaged, it means that with the strength of the coating everything is fine. Finally, the quality is determined by how large the gaps are: if they are less than 0.4 centimeters, it means you can sleep peacefully and content.
