Iron doors are used everywhere. They are installed not only in apartments, but also in private houses, bathhouses, other houses. It is these doors that can reliably protect property from attacks by intruders.

However, it is not always possible to purchase a decent metal door. First, the factor of high price policy plays a role, and secondly, sometimes it is required to make a door of a special size or using certain materials.

By making an iron door with your own hand, you can be sure that the design will be really high-quality, and the material costs will not be prohibitively high.

Measurements and drawings

Before you make a door of steel, you must carefully measure the doorway and make sure that the wall is a brickwork or layerconcrete, and not a thick layer of plaster or plywood.

design When the doorway is measured, you can start work on the design drawing. It necessarily reflects the dimensions of the door, the height of the lock and loops, the position of the ribs and other structural features of the door.

Please note! If in the process of measuring the readings are more than 1500 * 2000 mm, it is recommended that the door box be made a team, adding an additional frame on the side or on top, sewn with metal. In private houses, in the wide doorways, two additional glazed modules are added, which not only strengthen the entire structure of the door, but also adorn the entire entrance group.

Door manufacturing materials, tool

1. Long products( corner or profile square tube with a side of 40mm) for the manufacture of the box and the door itself.
2. Steel sheet 2-3 mm thick.

5. Plywood and polystyrene or polystyrene crumb and PVA glue for insulation.

9. Measuring tools( measuring tape, gon).

Option one. The classic iron door

The classic iron door consists directly of a cloth, a metal door frame, connecting their loops and fastening plates that fix the door in the opening.

Step 1

Please note! Work must be performed on a metal workbench.

Assemble the door frame( box).To do this, we cut the metal profile( corner) at an angle of 45 degrees using previously made markings. We check the accuracy of the cutting, connecting the frame and applying the carpentry corner.

It can also assemble the frame from metal pipes, welding them together into a rectangular construction. When working, it is important to check not only the accuracy of the connection of the corners, but also to measure the diagonals of the structure in order to avoid distortion.

All welds are immediately machined with an angle grinder. It is necessary that in the future the canvas snug against the box.

Step 2

We make workpieces for the frame of the door. We use the corner metal. The gap between the frame of the door and the box will be kept within 5 mm - from the side of the lock and 3 mm from the other three sides. For convenience, you can prepare metal rectangles of the declared thickness( templates).

Mark and cut the metal profile. We put it inside the door frame. Check the diagonals. If they match, then in one of the side profiles we make a slot for the door lock. Next, we weld the corners of the frame and both frames around the perimeter in several places.

In this step, metal strips can be welded onto the door frame, which will become the locks for the future door paneling.

Step 3

In the middle of the future door leaf we weld the first rib of rigidity. To do this, measure the length of the door frame, cut the profile and weld it vertically in the center. We clean the welded seams with a bulgarian.

Step 4

We make the marking of the door leaf. The sheet metal starts on the box 10-15 mm, on the side of the loops - 5 mm.

We cut the steel with a bulgarian and weld it to the door frame.

Inside the door leaf we weld horizontal stiffeners. If they are not enough, then the number of reinforcement should be increased.

Step 5

Install the lock. We make a marking on the door leaf with chalk or marker. Drill the keyhole, process it with a file. We drill the holes for the fasteners of the lock, tap the threads and lock the bolts. Install the handle of the lock.

Attention! The installation instructions for the door lock may vary depending on the modification of the product you purchased.

Step 6

Lubricate the hinges and weld them to the door frame and the frame of the door leaf.

With Bulgarian we cut the junction between frame and door leaf( welded areas).We open the door. We fix the loops by welding from the inside.

Please note! At this stage, you can drill a hole under the door eye either through the central vertical profile and sheet metal, or by sliding the eyelet slightly to the side and drilling the hole only in the steel canvas.

Step 7

opening We will make the fasteners for the door. Take the metal strips( from 6 to 10 pieces).We weld them to the door frame. Later in these strips there will be holes for the anchors.

Step 8

We warm the door. We cut foam, mineral wool or any other insulation. Fill them with space between the stiffeners of the door.

We make interior decorative covering. For example, you can use a cut-out sheet of plywood and fix it with rivets. Also for finishing mono use laminated, plastic panels or lining. The latter option is especially relevant if the door is installed in the bath.

Step 9

The door is ready. It remains to cover it with an automobile primer and paint. Instead of staining, the door can be covered with dermatitis or skin. If necessary, install seals on the door frame.

You can proceed to the installation by drilling holes in welded steel strips and fixing the door frame in the opening with anchors. When installing, it is important to use a level to avoid skewing.

Option two. Metal door with a window and elements of cold forging

Usually the entrance doors with double-glazed windows are installed in private houses. Thanks to the window, the hallway will be lighter, and forging elements will make the front entrance exclusive and attractive externally.

A window in the doorway is made during the cutting of steel sheet. Further on the perimeter of the cut rectangular( or other shape) hole welded metal reinforcement. The subsequent stages of work up to painting are similar to the classical door.

After painting in the window opening, it is necessary to install the double-glazed unit, and on the outside of the door, weld a decorative grille made by cold or hot forging.

In addition, you can install a door closer to the front door. Then the construction will close smoothly and noiselessly.
