Concrete formwork: types, significance, application

Advantages of non-removable formwork

The use of formwork for the construction of walls and foundations has many advantages. First, it facilitates the construction of the building due to the fact that the thickness of the walls decreases. Secondly, it accelerates the process of building and laying the foundation. And also allows you to save significant money. Thirdly, it provides excellent heat and sound insulation. Even the most frigid cold is not terrible.

Fourthly, the use of materials for formwork( for example, expanded polystyrene) is possible in different climatic conditions. There are no restrictions in this respect. Fifthly, it is used in all kinds of construction projects. Could be as typical residential houses, and complex structures. Sixthly, the formwork can also be decorative, thereby providing a proper form-building structure and at the same time transforming the facade of the building.

Types of non-removable formwork

As already mentioned, the concrete fixed formwork can be made of various materials:

  • Armopanel - looks like a plate made of expanded polystyrene or any other insulating material( Paroc, Rockwool ), which is covered with reinforcement mesh on 2 sides. During installation of these panels, concrete is poured into them under pressure. It turns out a kind of "sandwich".This method is considered to be low-budget and, moreover, providing good performance characteristics.
  • Foamed polystyrene with voids - looks like a plate, which are connected together by jumpers. The entire construction is reminiscent of the Lego , where the corresponding blocks are formed by connecting the blocks. However, polystyrene concrete, a non-removable formwork of which must necessarily be trimmed outside and inside, needs to be protected( for this, its lining is carried out).
  • Arbolite or wood blocks or panels of , which consist of cement and chips. The formwork is assembled using nails and screeds. In addition, insert a styrofoam insert( for better thermal insulation). Then the reinforcement is put into the manufactured structure and the concrete mixture is poured. The surface is externally trimmed with siding, facade plaster, clinker or some kind of stone. For interior decoration, it is also possible to apply plaster and gypsum plasterboard.
  • Decorative non-removable formwork - is a design that has already finished facing from the outside. It is assembled using blocks using seamless masonry. At the same time, any heat-insulating material( mineral wool or expanded polystyrene) must be placed inside. Then the concrete composition is poured into the formwork.

A few words about the foam polystyrene formwork

Let's stop and tell about this formwork a little more in detail, as it is often used in various construction sectors. It is so popular due to the fact that it is easy and simple to install and does not require any kind of equipment or skilled workers. Wall blocks are joined together and poured with concrete.

In special technological openings all kinds of wires or communications( air conditioning, electric lighting) can be laid. Thus, when constructing this formwork, a reinforced concrete monolithic wall is obtained.

It does not need additional heat or sound insulation, as polystyrene itself performs these functions perfectly. In addition, its surface does not pass water vapor and does not absorb moisture at all. Therefore, unfavorable weather phenomena are not terrible for him. Plus, it's not afraid of expanded polystyrene cracking and thermal expansion( suitable for any seismically active zone).
