Keramoplast: what is it and how to mount it?

The roofing materials market is full of names. Among them are well known, and most recently appeared on the market. Keramoplast refers to the "youngest" materials, so many roofers do not know its properties or even the name. Let's try to understand its properties and styling technology.

Designed at the beginning of this century, the Russian material keramoplast united ceramics and plastics in its composition. In the process of its production, ceramic filler from white clay is mixed with plastic powder and dyes. The resulting mass is heated and pressed under high pressure. The molded sheets of keramoplast are rapidly cooled.

Recently, a new modification of this material has appeared, reinforced with steel mesh. This variety has a higher bending and tear strength. Thus, there are two varieties on sale: conventional and reinforced ceramic plastics.

Ceramoplast is available in many colors, its sheets can be wavy and flat, and the surface of the sheet can be smooth and rough. Wavy sheets have a different depth of wave( 3 options), while flat ones mimic ceramic tiles.

The coating sheets have different sizes. The thickness of the material can vary from 3 to 5 mm. The width of the sheets is usually 900 mm, and the maximum length is up to 2000 mm. The weight of the sheet is 4.5 mm thick, 2000 mm long and 900 mm wide, 7.5 kg. In addition to the sheets of material, the kit includes windblocks, ridge parts and special fasteners with an anti-corrosion coating and protective caps.

Properties of Ceramoplast

Keramoplast has high strength for bending and tearing( especially reinforced), as well as impact resistance, resistant to moisture and to many chemicals. The material has no pores and does not absorb water, so it can withstand multiple freezing and thawing, it is easily processed( bent and cut). All these properties combined with low thermal conductivity and good sound insulation properties make it one of the best roofing materials for Russian conditions.

Installation of the roof from ceramic plastics

Ceramoplast is mounted on a crate of 50 × 50 mm beams and boards of 100 × 30 mm. The step of the elements of the roofing depends on the slope of the roof: the greater the angle of incline, the greater the pitch. If the angle of slope does not exceed 10 °, the crate is made continuous, and the cover sheets are laid with an end overlap of 30 cm and a side edge of 2 waves. The angle from 10 to 30 ° requires a step of 38 cm, a lateral overlap in one wave, and an end overlap of 15 cm. A slope of more than 30 ° allows a 48 cm grid to be made, and the cover to be laid with an end overlap of 10 cm at a lateral one wave. After finishing the installation of the crate, it is treated with fire retardants and antiseptic preparations. After that start the installation of the coating.

crate. The erection begins at the rear of the building. Laying of sheets of keramoplast can be done in two different ways:

  • in staggered order;
  • with a zigzag.

When assembling in the first way, each top sheet is the same width as the bottom one. This method has a drawback: at the junction of 4 sheets the thickness of the coating is significantly increased and its surface is distorted. To avoid this, the corners of 2 sheets are cut obliquely.

In the second method, the upper sheets are shifted half the width relative to the lower ones. Mounting with zigzag has the advantage over "chess": at the junction of 3 sheets of significant distortion of the surface does not occur.

To ensure that a series of mounting screws pass exactly along the middle of the board of the crate, a cord is stretched along the board.

For the accuracy of the fastening, the cord

cord is tightened for accuracy. Keramoplast strips are fastened with screws on the crest of the wave. To ensure that the coating is not deformed when the temperature changes, the wave crest is not pressed too tightly. For the same purpose, the holes must be 3 mm wider than the diameter of the screw.

The ridge parts are mounted, connecting through the lock element, to the entire length of the ridge. Each part is fastened with six screws on each side. To the wings of ridge details located at the right angle, they warm up the blowtorch from the inside, and then bend.

All overhanging structural elements are also covered with a ridge piece. In order to prevent moisture and dust from falling under the cover at the ends of the roof, the wind-bars are mounted on the ends, connecting with the lock element( mounting - 3 screws on both sides).

Ceramoplast is a new roofing material that has been in operation for about 10 years. Despite all its positive qualities, the test of time has not yet passed. But its strength, environmental friendliness and good soundproofing properties are advantages that no longer require proof.
