Properties of ondulin
The basis of the onduline is a cellulose web, in which there are mineral additives between the fibers. They impart strength to the material. To impart plasticity and moisture resistance, the sheets are impregnated with a thermosetting resin and distilled bitumen. It turns out a hybrid material that has the properties of ruberoid and slate at the same time. The color of the onduline can be any: dark brown, green or red. One sheet of ondulum covers the roof area 2000х950 mm. The weight of one sheet is about five kilograms. This is five times less than the mass of ordinary gray slate. Preliminary preparation of the roof
If the roof has a slope of up to 10 degrees, it is necessary to make a crate of plywood or thin boards. First, the rafters from the bars are nailed to the roof at a distance of less than half a meter, so that the joints of the ondulin are on a firm support. The crossbeams are nailed at the same distance. As a result, we obtain a geometrically sustained grating, which will greatly facilitate the attachment of Euroshade plates. To ensure the flow of water from the roof, it is necessary to make an overlap of 200 mm. For a side overlap, the distance of one wave of ondulum is sufficient. When the roof is tilted over 15 degrees, the grate pitch is made less often - by 600 mm, the end overlap is shorter by 30 mm. The width of the lateral overlap remains the same - in one wave of the sheet. When making a crate, one should strive to ensure that the crossbeams are parallel to each other and to the earth's surface. To do this, do not need special instruments, it is enough to make a template from a bar of a certain length. It is inserted between the bars at both ends. After nailing one end of the crossbar, the other end is attached to the nails. In this case, the distance between the already nailed board and the next one must correspond to the cut off wooden template.
Calculation of roofing material and marking of sheets
The ondulin sheet exactly repeats the dimensions and configuration of gray slate. If the roof is covered with an old slate, it is enough to count the number of sheets. The exact calculation of the roofing material and fitting to the dimensions of the roof is done on the ground. The necessary size of the onduline sheet is marked with a conventional color pencil. To make the line smooth, you can put an entire sheet of unduliated material on top of the cut. Bituminous slate easily can be sawed with an ordinary wood hacksaw. To prevent the panel from getting stuck, it should be lubricated with machine oil or solidol. If there is an electric saw in the household, it is better to use it: both circular and manual.
Placement of the ondulin sheets on the roof
Start attaching the ondulin on the leeward side - from the roof slope to its apex. The second row put the sheet on the previous one. Moreover, each next row should be laid in such a way that the joints between the sheets should be in the middle of the solid sheet from the bottom. It will be something like a brickwork, in which solid vertical seams are not allowed. This way of laying can significantly strengthen the lateral joints, which consist not of four, but only of three sheets.

Attach the ondulin sheets to the rafters using nails with special hats. Twenty nails are consumed on one sheet. Scoring them is necessary on the crest of the wave, through one. Special elements of ondulin are used to close the ridge, ravine, tongs. They are attached according to the same principles as the Euroshade sheets. In places of joints of a roof and vertical elements of a roof special aprons from the same ondulin are used. Seams should be treated with waterproofing materials, so that water does not fall under the leaves of ondulin.
Terms and rules for roofing with asdulin
For correct laying of bituminous slate, in order to extend the life of the slate, the following rules should be adhered to:
· Work should be carried out in dry weather at an air temperature of no higher than 25 degrees in the shade. With such thermometer indices, in the sun the air warms up to 30 degrees, which corresponds to the melting point of bitumen. Installation under such conditions, to put it mildly, will prove ineffective. Ondulin will melt at the point of attachment with nails, and crevices are formed. Finished roof of ondulin easily withstand any heat, because the nails are fixed, and the material is not subjected to mechanical impact. A similar recommendation applies to the cold season, from zero degrees and below. Ondulin becomes tough and fragile.
· When walking on the roof during installation and after it, do not step on the roofing material between the waves. A similar load on the ondulin sheet leads to its deformation. While the protruding sheet comb is capable of withstanding any load.
· The installation instructions for ondulin indicate that you need to use twenty nails to attach one sheet. Trying to save will lead to a breakdown and the turn of the leaf by a gust of wind. The same rule applies to self-tapping screws, which are used to fix the Euro-sphere when the crate is made of metal.
· In places with heterogeneous materials: on the roof ridge, valleys, tongs, - it is recommended to provide additional waterproofing with a special self-adhesive tape onduffles, which is sold together with ondulin sheets.
The installation of the roof by the Euroshift with its own hands is not difficult. With all the rules, such a roof will last for many years.
