Given the variety of modern building and finishing materials, repairs, especially of the floor, have ceased to be something very difficult and impossible. Now any person who has not been trained and without a huge experience of such works will be able to repair it.

Before repairing the flooring, it is extremely important to choose suitable materials, to prepare the necessary tools and to stock yourself with the desire to do the work yourself.

The floor of the OSB is simple to install and at the same time budgetary material, with which it is not difficult to update the floor covering, so that you can proudly present the results to your relatives.

The structure, advantages and weaknesses of the

OSB Many people are interested in answering the question, what exactly is an OSB?

The OSB is an oriented particle board, the same as the OSB( in English it sounds like "oriented strand board", that is, structural construction material).

This slab is made of several layers of wood large-sized shavings( mainly used pine), glued together with various resins, as well as synthetic wax, under suitable pressure and high temperature. Most often these layers are three, a little less often - four.

The chips in the outer layers of the slab are located longitudinally, and in the inner layers - in the transverse direction. For the production of OSB, shavings with a length of 7 to 15 cm and a width of 1 to 1.2 cm are used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of OSB?

The demand for OSB is increasing more and more every year, this is evidenced by the growth statistics of production and sales, which once again confirms the following merits of the material:

  • ecological purity( almost 100% wood) is the most important advantage;
  • homogeneity of the structure, which prevents stratification and spillage;
  • easy to handle;
  • resistance to temperature drop and mechanical stress;
  • high strength, which improves the excellent properties of elasticity and flexibility;
  • hygiene;
  • is an affordable price( much lower than any lumber);
  • aesthetic appearance.

This material has not seen any special disadvantages. The only thing to consider is that the resins are synthetic based on it, and there may be some phenol content in them. Although, in recent years, manufacturers have been actively solving this issue, moving to the use of polymeric resins without formaldehyde. Such resins are absolutely safe, they can be labeled "ECO" and "Green".

Guide to the installation of the floor from the OSB on the logs

Among the modern types of floor installation, the most popular and optimal today is the design of laying the floor on the lag.

The floor of OSB boards on logs is a worthy alternative to concrete screed. At the same time, it is sufficiently warm, durable, withstands a heavy load and, most importantly, the floor of the OSB can really be executed by anyone with their own hands.

Before starting work, you need to determine the material that will perform the function of insulation under the slabs.

The most suitable in this case will be penoplex( or polystyrene), - this is the most effective insulation, which is a foam extruded polystyrene with a homogeneous structure. Penoplex has high strength, excellent water resistance, low thermal conductivity, easy and quick installation.

You can stop the choice on all the usual mineral wool, which has excellent thermal insulation properties, fire resistance and a very long life.

Preparation of tools and materials for the installation of the

OSB Before starting the installation of the OSB, it is necessary to prepare a set of all the necessary tools:

  • tape measure( you can apply and folding meter);
  • electric jigsaw;
  • perforator;
  • level gauge;
  • screwdriver;
  • dowels;
  • wood screws;
  • hammer;
  • simple pencil( for marks on the cutting places).

It is necessary to prepare all consumables in advance:

  • OSB;
  • wooden logs( bars);
  • heater( slabs of penoplex / rolls of mineral wool);
  • mounting foam;
  • varnish for the floor;
  • dry adhesive mixture for insulation;
  • plinth.

Detailed instructions for mounting OSB

Step 1. Preparing the log

The first thing you need to do to later install the floor from the OSB is to prepare the log.

The logs( wooden bars) take the following dimensions:

  • with a width of 4 cm;
  • height - 2 cm( or respectively the height of the insulation sheet).

Then they are treated with a special antiseptic solution, providing protection from decay, rodents.

Step 2. Mounting the log and "stiffeners"

Lay the dried logs around the perimeter of the room( along the contour) and along the length of the room. The distance between the lags is 25 cm or 50 cm( based on the width of the heater).With the help of dowels, the lugs are attached to the concrete base of the floor( holes for the dowels are prepared with a perforator).It is advisable to place the dowels at a distance of 50 to 60 mm from each other.

Afterwards, cut the wooden slats( they are called "stiffeners") with the help of an electric jigsaw to create overlaps between the longitudinal lags. These bars, respectively, are placed perpendicular to the laid bars and must have a length corresponding to the distance between the lags. They are also attached to the concrete base with dowels, placing the latter in staggered order.

Step 3. Laying of insulation

The next stage of work is the placement of insulation in the cells formed for it. To add extra reliability, the slabs are glued to the concrete base.

To do this, take a dry mixture of glue, which is diluted with water to the desired consistency in the prepared container( exact mixing-water ratio and detailed preparation technology is always written on the glue packaging by the manufacturer).Stir the mixture with a whisk.

Then paste the glue on the penoplex sheets with a construction spatula and place the heater in the prepared cell between the lags.

If mineral wool is chosen as a heater, it should be very tightly located between the lags.

The gap between the walls of the room and the lag is sealed with a mounting foam. It is important to allow the foam to dry out, then gently cut the excess with a knife( the wallpaper knife or clerical knife is suitable).

Step 4. Installation of the

OSB When the floor insulation is finished, proceed to the next stage - the immediate installation of the SCE.

When laying the OSB, it is necessary to mark it with a simple pencil in the place where the fixing to the logs will be made.

The OSB sheets are fastened to the logs by means of wood screws and screwdrivers.

Fig.6 Fixing the plates with

screws First, the whole sheets are put on the center of the floor. OSB before laying along the walls is cut by an electric jigsaw at the sections of the required dimensions. Fastening is made by screwdriver and self-tapping screws.

At this stage, the floor of the OSB is considered to be mounted.

Step 5. Finishing the work on the floor finish from the OSD

After the floor of the OSB in the room is fully assembled, proceed to individual floor finishing.

  1. The floor can be covered with a special varnish and fix the skirting around the perimeter of the room.
  2. Modern manufacturers also produce a new type of OSB, a bit expensive, but already with a glossy finish. The perimeter of the room is enriched with a skirting board and the floor is completely ready for use.
  3. The floor made of OSB can become an excellent base for a modern floor covering - laminate. In this case, the OSB is an alternative replacement for cement screed, while the floor becomes much warmer.
  4. The ready-made floor of OSB can be covered around the perimeter with carpet, a modern and aesthetic interior will be obtained.

Finishing - an individual choice, the floor of the OSB is suitable for almost any options. But, at the same time, it can also be an independent excellent solution for decorating a beautiful floor.
