Paint roller: description and characteristics of varieties

Paint roller: description of the tool

This tool is intended for the application of all kinds of paint and varnish materials and other decorative coatings. It consists of two parts: handles and reels. By its design, the rollers are completely different. For example, they can be monolithic or collapsible, there are also wireframe, with bearings and with studs( quite primitive).

The fur coat, which connects to the reel( core), can be attached in several ways: a replaceable coat, hot-melt adhesive and glued. The first variant is fixed on the pipe with the help of plugs. The second is attached by thermosynthesis, that is, by "welding" the fur coat to the bobbin. Well, the third - by a typical gluing to the base of the core.

What are the rollers in size?

As already mentioned, this tool is classified according to the size and depending on the material from which it is made. If we talk about the first classification, then there are large, medium and small rollers. Their size is 180-250 mm, 100-150 mm and 50-100 mm respectively. In this case, the outer diameter can be completely different - from 15 to 69 mm. It depends on the manufacturer.

For large areas, a large roller is recommended( or it is also called a facade). But he, because of its impressive size, is not very comfortable for the hands. The most comfortable are medium and, in particular, small rollers. The latter can generally "get" to the most inaccessible places. In addition, they do not spray paint, unlike their "older brethren".

They are less tired of the hand, and they are also very cheap. Select the roller is necessary depending on the area to be treated. In addition to all the above, it is worth to know how to properly paint the walls with a roller, and observe a certain technology.

Variety of rollers for the material of the

fur coat. Depending on the fur coat material, the following types of paint rollers are distinguished: polyurethane( foam rubber), fur, velor and others. We describe in detail each species.

  • Roller coated with polyamide ( artificial fiber) has a pile length of about 8-20 mm. Provides good ink retention and its distribution on the substrate. Used for all types of paints: for both oil and water-dispersive paints. Plus, it has a high resistance to chemical attack.
  • Polyurethane( or foam rubber) is used only for water-soluble formulations: glue, primers, polymer-dispersion paints. Not suitable for aggressive components. Has a high elasticity, so it can easily restore its former shape.
  • The velvet covering ( thick and soft to the touch fabric) is suitable for finish painting and frosting. Of the advantages in it, you can highlight the resistance to aggressive environments, and from the minuses - fragility and inability to take on the necessary amount of paint, because often have to dunk the tool in the solution.
  • A fur coat from of natural fur allows to work with primers, paints on an organic and water basis. Of the advantages can be distinguished good absorbency and distribution of the mixture over the surface. Lack of fur roller - there are different strings and hair on the surface.

If you have a question about how to choose a roller for painting, it is better to focus on the composition by which you will process the surface( on an organic or water basis), as well as on the treated area( large, medium and small roller).
